Hello, this is my first time setting up orange pi + Armbian Linux. I'm a linux newbie. I've been trying to install various version of the Debian 12 Desktop images working. I can always get into it via SSH but never get a display out via HDMI except fro Ubuntu 24.04 Noble Gnome

Images Success
Armbian_25.2.1_Orangepi5-plus_noble_vendor_6.1.99_gnome_desktop

Images Failed
Armbian_25.2.1_Orangepi5-plus_bookworm_current_6.12.13_cinnamon-backported-mesa_desktop
Armbian_25.2.1_Orangepi5-plus_bookworm_current_6.12.13_xfce_desktop

After SSH and setting up roo/user accounts I always get to the message
     Now starting desktop environment...

But it doesn't do anything afterwards. I've done initial troubleshooting

  1. verifying that HDMI cables work
  2. using different monitors
  3. Trying different power supplies
  4. trying different microSDs

Is there something else I can check on the Debian bookworm variants to see what the issue is?

Thanks for taking a look.

current_6.12.13

This is more or less expected for current since the HDMI implementation in this LTS version is very basic/incomplete. Features were and still are in development and did not make it into this version. If you need desktop use edge or vendor.

@Werner something I noticed with testing
Armbian_25.2.1_Orangepi5-plus_bookworm_current_6.12.13_xfce_desktop

The HDMI display would output on a 4k display but did NOT display any output on other various resolutions
27" 1440 , 34" 1440p ultrawide, or 2560x1600 portable monitor

I used armbia-config to install an edge kernal
linux-image-edge-rockchip64=25.2.2 v6.14.0-rc4
this resolved my hdmi issue on all my monitors listed in my previous reply
