micktol Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 I have installed open media vault on my rock64 and I have a sata3 disc drive connected to the usb3 port. I have tried both armbian and ayufan firmwares and the speed of the samba shares is 30 MB/sec. I know that the system can do more as with FTP I get 100MB/sec. I have tried many samba tweaks but nothing changes, is this the max I can expect?
chwe Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 What kind of tweaks... It's hard to figure out if they help or make things worse.. Why not start with @tkaiser of OMV images? They are built on top of armbian and with performance in mind.
micktol Posted April 8, 2018 Author Posted April 8, 2018 Thank you for your reply. I tried the changes in this post https://forum.openmediavault.org/index.php/Thread/12986-Tunning-Samba-for-more-speed/ I installed omv with armbian-config is this the correct way?

In the past some of the tweaks where not applied when you install OMV that way, so starting from OMV image directly was the better way (don't know if this is still true). You can build OMV images on your own with armbians buildscript or download them directly from here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/openmediavault/
micktol Posted April 8, 2018 Author Posted April 8, 2018 Update: I was using a computer with linux mint. I tried another with windows 10 and the speeds are +100MB/sec so now I do not think the problem is with omv!
tkaiser Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 Use /sbin/mount_cifs on your Linux box for SMB shares. If you mount them via GUI performance will be crappy (one of the many reasons why I hate 'Desktop Linux') 1
micktol Posted April 8, 2018 Author Posted April 8, 2018 Thank you, I now have transfers +100MB/s. with cifs
