Do Armbian fix OPi PC thermal issues??

Hi!!! I am planning to buy Orange Pi PC but I saw that it has thermal issues because of overclocking/overvolting. My question is, Is armbian able to fix this problem???

------Sorry...I am new to Single Board Computers-----

Another thing, If Armbian isn't helpful about it,   Does Orange Pi PC2 differ from it's predecessor??(I mean in thermal issues)...

There are no thermal problems with OrangePi PC, only with some versions of OrangePi Zero.

a heatsink does wonders, a good heat sink allows one to push the limits of those socs that run hot

i think orange pi do sell kits with heatsinks (the board only purchases is just that the board, no heatsink)

or one could easily order them on ebay, amazon, aliexpress etc

one'd need to be wary about thermal interface, normally it'd need to be decent thermal compounds (easy to get as well, all those cpu coolers compounds for pc overclocking fanatics is it, easily available in local pc accessories shops or online), some vendors sell heatsinks with sticky tapes, accordingly while it is convenient thermal performance suffers
and have good ventilation / fan etc to remove all that heat
the cheap socs run hot (uses 'cheaper & older' fab tech), still they perform quite well consuming just a few watts, just that without a heatsink that few watts is good enough to bring the chip to boiling point

 

oh and see @tkaiser 's review on orangepi pc and orangepi one above, the cheap(est) boards use cheap lousy power regulators that runs at the higher voltages (power is square of the voltages) and hence run hot, get boards with good power regulators if you intend to run at the lower frequencies (i.e. slower) without the heatsinks

they are really great articles and do take some time to read them, i think they'd give you a very good clue to which board you may want. for the orange pi pc when it is idle and with a recent install, orange pi pc idles about 10 deg C above ambient (40 deg C) while orange pi one idles about 20 deg C above ambient (50 deg C) in my climate / environment. However, if it is under high loads, u'd only need to run a big web browser (e.g. chromium / firefox etc), open many tabs and for the 'heavy' web sites, which incidentally include this forum (open many different tabs), soc temperatures can run pretty high say 70-80 deg C without a heatsink on both

70-80 deg C may be 'high temperatures' but i think the soc can handle it, but that is as far as the loads can go to without a heat sink. if you run higher loads without a heat sink say pushing it to 100 deg C (boiling point) or higher, you may then risk damaging the soc.
I think you can order kits i.e. with heatsink or combine the order from the same vendor, the alternatives could include trying to source the heat sinks locally as they are after all basically pieces of aluminium or copper with fins

 

tl;dr this actually isn't an 'orange pi' problem, raspberry pi 3, beagle bone black, intel compute stick, mobile phones cpus, desktop cpus etc there is one thing in common, all of (every one of) them (no exclusions) run hot when loads are high. whether they survive the high temperatures is simply a matter of how you remove that heat from the chip

simply get a board, install armbian (i.e. the desktop version) or the cli version (e.g. bionic or stretch) then run apt-get upgrade armbian-config followed by

run armbian-config and install the desktop from there)

the look on the desktop, panels, short-cuts, icons etc can be configured and changed

in addition i'd recommend to switch to light-dm (light display manager) in armbian-config

but i'd suggest starting with a stock image install first link above as that's the fastest / simplest way to get started
on a personal note/prejudice, i simply preferred armbian over the likes of say raspberry pi etc.
with armbian you have many boards that you can literally choose, and it is pretty much true to it a debian or unbuntu linux distribution, i hardly miss anything on the desktop version of armbian vs say on a pc with linux installed.

using a sbc with armbian desktop makes the sbc a 'little desktop' that you can bring around plug in to any hdmi monitor and start using (get a wireless keyboard and mouse combo to go with it), or alternatively connect a network point or plug in a wifi dongle and use it via ssh remotely literally anywhere
