AUFS mount no longer working after kernel upgrade

Hi, first post here.

After upgrading Armbian on my Odroid-N2 to 5.8.13-meson64, I can no longer mount using autofs, neither manually nor via systemctl.   The error message is:

mount: /home/<mountdir>: unknown filesystem type 'aufs'.

The Armbian Build Options information suggests that kernel builds include AUFS by default:

AUFS ( yes | no ): Include support for AUFS

Am I missing something?

Armbian version is #20.08.6 SMP PREEMPT Thu Oct 1 18:51:27 CEST 2020

AUFS has not been updated to 5.8 yet. Therefore it is not included.

Just gave it a shot with the last branch available but patching fails

Processing file /home/build/build/cache/sources/aufs5/aufs5.x-rcN/aufs5-base.patch
1 out of 1 hunk FAILED -- saving rejects to file fs/read_write.c.rej
1 out of 5 hunks FAILED -- saving rejects to file include/linux/fs.h.rej
1 out of 1 hunk FAILED -- saving rejects to file include/linux/mnt_namespace.h.rej
