jock Posted November 26, 2020 Posted November 26, 2020 Lately there have been many commits in the rockchip kernel github repository talking about imminent new chips (they have been removed though and the 4.19 kernel last commit "regressed" to 11 Aug 2020), but here there is the announcement of the rk3588: https://www.cnx-software.com/2020/11/26/rockchip-rk3588-specifications-revealed-8k-video-6-tops-npu-pcie-3-0-up-to-32gb-ram/ Enjoy!
NicoD Posted November 27, 2020 Posted November 27, 2020 It'll be great. Too bad we need to wait that much longer. I'd love to have an rk3588 today.
ning Posted November 27, 2020 Posted November 27, 2020 Rockchip Socs are best ARM socs for Linux desktop use. hope board makers build good devices for us.
hexdump Posted November 27, 2020 Posted November 27, 2020 it was supposed to be released by now already and looks like its delayed by another year now ... announcements are one thing and real hardware with good software support another

I was also interested to see little rk3566 brother, but for this no announcement yet...

So, long, long way to go, IMO. But I guess we are saying the same thing, essentially. I mean, look how long it took for RK3399 support to get stable. That's a chip I've been excited about for a long time, and only now just getting there, finally (after literally years).
hexdump Posted November 27, 2020 Posted November 27, 2020 @jock regarding rk3566: pine64 is planning something for next year - see https://www.pine64.org/2020/11/15/november-update-kde-pinephone-ce-and-a-peek-into-the-future/
