Magnus Nygren
Hello I'm running a Plex server on my Helios64 and when I turn on subtitles it buffers every other second making the movie unwatchable. Is this a known issue with a fix? Sincerely Magnus Nygren
Remus
Hi there. I'm also running plex with subtitles and no issue. What type of subtitles are you using? Srt?
Magnus Nygren
I have convertet my Blu-ray collection with MakeMKV and HandBrake and are using the included subtitles in a MKV file.
m11k
Most likely turning on subtitles converts the stream from direct play to transcoding. From Plex's documentation: Quote Note: Subtitles can introduce a wrinkle here sometimes. Even if a file’s audio, video, and container are all compatible with a Plex App, if a subtitle stream is selected and is not compatible with the Plex App, then the Server will “burn in” the subtitle text within the video. This requires a full transcode of the video stream. I haven't tried personally, but I think the helios64 is too underpowered to be able to transcode full HD video in real time.
gprovost
@Magnus Nygren Until hardware encoding engine is fully implemented for rockchip RK3399, it might a bit too much for the processor to handle a full HD transcoding.
