I downloaded Armbian for a CuBox i4P from


uname -a reports:

However this image is working really fine, for a 7yo hardware. Thank you, Developers :) 2D software rendering is fast, Desktop windows are transparent. Great work!

I tried Armbian Focal desktop mainline first, but it didnt show the desktop never again after first reboot, so i was happy with Bionic!


Found similar problem here 

and i think i just need the correct xorg driver. Thanks for any hints, maybe the solid-run repo can help?


I would love to use RetroArch there or play Videos with mpv, i would die for hardware support

Armbian is a community driven open source project. Do you like to contribute your code?

This is about i.MX6 SOC and the device it is equipped on does not matter. Since not many Armbian i.MX6 SOC users, even you  till now not, contribute much to the Armbiban project, you can imagine why few improvements happen.

The same responses from "No gpu support on Udoo?" apply here, so I'll leave it to a moderator to possibly close this topic as a dublicate. To begin with, you can provide a PR to add the pointed out xorg driver to the Armbian build system.

i tried to compile the code of xserver-xorg-video-imx-viv_6.2.2.p0+1.tar.xz, but i failed at missing depencies out of default ubuntu sources yet.

What do you mean with PR?

i.MX6 support is feature complete since long time in mainline, I'm running fully flagged fedora on my i.MX6 devices for years. Not running current releases will missing bugfixes and latest features.

No i.MX6 development is required, only an administrator who knows how to integrate software in his system. So you are fully qualified.

You want the xf86-video-armada driver as referenced in the other thread.

Armbian manages their build system with git. So you issue a pull request (PR) to get your modification discussed and hopefully finaly applied.

 I just wanted to confirm that I see the same issue on recent builds of both Focal and Buster desktops for the Cubox-i (specifically, I'm using a Hummingboard Edge). On first boot, the HDMI display comes up and prompts me to set the root password and create a new user. After doing this, the XFCE GUI comes up on the HDMI display. However, after rebooting, I see some messages from U-Boot, but then the display goes blank and stays that way. I'm not a Linux expert by any means, but I would think if this was caused by a missing driver the desktop GUI would not load at all. However, it does come up after the first boot (and only on the first boot).


Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do to help troubleshoot what's causing the HDMI display to remain blank after a reboot? Thanks in advance for your help, I really appreciate it.
