Etcher.io bug

There is a recent Etcher.io bug in Linux https://github.com/resin-io/etcher/issues/1955  causing errors writing images.

While we're hoping to release Etcher 1.3.1 soon, but as a temporary workaround you can do to manually downgrade to 1.2.1 :

 

sudo apt-get remove etcher-electron
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install etcher-electron

Yes, I know I think the 1.3.0 bricked two of my cards and that's supossed can't happens but for sure I have now two Read Only microSD card and i try every single method on every single platform ... and nothing. Bricked.

Try to remove all partitions with gparted (or gnome disk utility). Make a new one and format it.

gparted, gnome disk utility, dd with dev zeo, dd with dev random, diskpart from windows, sd formatter from windows, disk utility from MacOS, try to format with an Android movile, ... NOTHING WORKS!!!

Have you tried with fdisk + mkfs?

I think Resin.io has spawned a monster https://github.com/resin-io/etcher/issues/2053

They are breaking many SD cards, maybe is time to recommend other tools to flash armbian.

That sounds a bit like just the card died to me, I never managed to break any sdcard from the software/bus side so far... eMMC are a different matter if you write to the boot/firmware partitions... do you have steps to reproduce?

I'm not talking about eMMC is about "bricking" microSD and SD cards ... but this is supposed to be impossible !!!

Yes. SD formatter 4 and 3, and under Win10 and MacOS.

My cards are now in the Resin.io house, I hope this mystery can be resolved.

Change is not always improvement. etcher.io v 1.2.1 burns fine.
