bananapi-m5 vs builtin ram

Featured Replies

I have built a backup server out of a bpi-m5 I bought a pile of 2 years back. Using two high speed usb3 hubs to spread the load current enough the hub don't shut down. 5 ea 4T SSD's on usb3 to sata cables made an almost 12T raid6 that reads and writes at 600 megabytes/second.  But I've now repurposed it to be a general do anything box while I finish out my time on this ball of rock & water. I'm now 92

My instant problem is that the latest 2608 img fails networking, so I've backed up to a noble img, where everything but t-bird runs just fine. 2 problems, 1st being that t-bird has no findable place to modify the mail servers PW, you must blow the whole install away just to try a different PW.  tbird is 140.16.0esr (aarch64) from the about screen.

Secondary problem is the speed of the u-sd it boots from.   My attempts to make tbird use this /raid6 which I  as user can use, fails, insisting on creating the local directory tree for local storage on the u-sd. That's redefining slow, so how do I convince T-bird to use this 100x faster storage? This raid6 uses the RH gfs2 file system.

For obvious reasons I want also to move the /home/me/Downloads to this raid6.

If anybody can help, I'd sure appreciate it.

Thanks & Cheers, Gene

I have succeeded in making t-bird use the raid6 as its mail storage area.  Much, much faster.  The read6 is mounted at /raid6 but I own it, the whole thing.  Not a total solution but very helpful.

I managed to destroy the 2404 u0-sd so I'm back on the 26.08 u-sd card, all upto date except 12 pkgs. So I thought it ought to be safe, but synaptic seems to have dome something to get stuck for around 2 hours now, supposedly generating a new initramfs for 6.18.44.  The machine is still alive, I expect to be able to send this post with it stuck.  The u-sd is a 32G & reasonably fast for smaller files.  I've run htop w/o finding anything obviously related to building a new boot file.  The log is uninformative.  Send it a kill and the prompt is back instantly.

Has anyone a clue?
