Any update on this? I don't really like the idea of having to order the UART module just to fix this (from Hardkernel and with shipping it costs 26 dollars delivered to Finland), and would rather do a complete reinstall if a new working kernel was available.
Nope, but I throw away 60 EUR shipped for cheapest eMMC and I could reproduce the problem + did some investigation. -
There is no MAINLINE kernel for H3 board, we are attached to some development branch.
This way:
KERNELBRANCH='branch:orange-pi-4.9'

Would it help to buy new 32GiB eMMC instead of the 128GiB eMMC ?
We don't know exactly how and which eMMC are having this problem and which don't ... we asked Hardkernel folks for helping with this - they made adjustment to the eMMC driver. We wait for info ATM. -

The new forum feel a little slow comparing to before. I have no way to be sure but I wonder if I'm alone here ?
Could be. It has many fancy features and I probably didn't optimise it to full degree yet. I can also double the core count and RAM in no time if that would make any diff. -
Probably related to this, experimental patch was added 21h ago ... try if latest beta builds solves this problem.
It affect only some eMMC types. I can't reproduce with mine. -
If you want to compile a generic kernel this would be a proper way, but not here since:
- decent H3 support exists only in this branch
and
- our patches are aligned only for this branch
-
Well, this means patch does not fit the source and you need to adjust it. It might take few minutes or a day.
This will tell you which files have troubles, next you have to manually fix the patch.
cat output/debug/patching.log

You don't need to edit anything. Just put the patch into:
userpatches/kernel/sun8i-dev
and (try to) recompile kernel.
But we are using developing branch version 4.10.1 ... there is not much support in mainline www.kernel.org ATM.

Now, I've found the reason why feedly doesn't offer any new Armbian posts for a while
It was lost / disabled / moved to new location upon upgrade. You should see an icon in lower right corner of the forum.

We tend to find a problem and move on with upstream version, perhaps this is already solved within dev version. Would need to check ...
This is just a workaround.

I assume not because there are at least 3 different revisions of this board, at least 2 of them have different wireless chips, and not working Ethernet may suggest that Ethernet PHY configuration may differ too (hard to say without dmesg)
OMG I can understand for Wifi but Ethernet? http://sprunge.us/ONha -

Do I understand correctly that the image is assembled from source with GIT ?
Yes, I selected (today in the morning) "amlogic-s905x" from menu and Xenial Desktop XFCE. Image works except with some generic support, no network, WiFi under Beelink GT1, even when I switched to GT1 dtb file.Is there any image that GT1 fully works out of the box?

I also tried this new img on my beelink gt1 :
I made an image from @balbes150 sources, but ... system boots and all OK. while I can't get Ethernet nor Wifi working. I copied /boot/dtb/beelink-gt1dtb to /boot/dtb.img ... the rest is stock. Am i missing something else? -

Another question, according your esperience, it's worth continue using EMMC only ?
In most cases eMMC is (much) faster than SD card. but can't tell for this particular case. You should compare it this way and you will see."eMMC only" should be just fine .... just have some offsite backup of data & install of your scripts, that you can replace it quickly in case of some rear, but possible failure.
-
It's possible and it should go but such job is not recommended without access to console.
You need to:
- add repository and key (apt.armbian.com)- install kernel, dtb and u-boot package
- manually: download boot.cmd and convert it to boot.scr
If something goes wrong, if I forgot to bring up some small but important detail ... -
I don't work much with BT and my positive experiences with Bluetooth are only on modern or mainline kernel(s). I could connect keyboard, mouse and headset over Bluetooth, transfer files from and to mobile ... on desktop. On Odroid XU4 and via Exagear x86 emulator I even managed to establish a Skype call. This particular emulator is crashing on Allwinner boards but BT is operational. On NanopiAir, rather try modern / development image / kernel: https://www.armbian.com/nanopi-neo-air/#nightly You have more chances for BT there ... but this kernel is development and automated nightly build. Remember that.
On kernel 3.4.x ... you might need to fix more things.

It's u-boot related problem and most likely the problem was not caused by us. I have to check why it stops ... Workaround is to use this u-boot:
Works fine for me.

Than I guess I made a wrong math I looked upon a code but its messy and it's hard to understand ... proposed option B is possible to apply, but it would be nice to understand what does that means.
Thanks. I am looking forward for info / hint from Hardkernel.

what can i do at this moment?
This used to work but now headers are broken. Try on some older image and don't upgrade kernel until this is sorted out.
Perhaps it's related to this change? -

Since I would like to run a few tests and maybe help a bit, what hardware should I order ? Allwinner H3/H5/else ?
Stick to H3 ATM.
Encoding should go but I am not dealing much in this area. -

Is the "like this" footer can be removed ?
Not by switch which means I have to dig into the code - so far I haven't found a proper way. There was only a plugin which removed button Quote all from that footer. It annoys me to

Try adding this packages list:
https://github.com/irtimmer/moonlight-embedded/wiki/Packages
I am not sure you can run this on Orange Pi. Under supported hardware you can find:
## Select the audio and video decoder to use ## default - autodetect ## aml - hardware video decoder for ODROID-C1/C2 ## omx - hardware video decoder for Raspberry Pi ## imx - hardware video decoder for i.MX6 devices ## sdl - software decoder
In theory it should go with "software decoder" but in this case it probably won't be usable.

Exchange /boot/boot.cmd with https://github.com/igorpecovnik/lib/blob/master/config/bootscripts/boot-sunxi.cmd, recompile it and reboot. I think that's all.
Remember you switched to developing version, which is still under development, officially not supported and you might run into problems. You already run into (first?) one
