  1. Thanks chaps I went with the SuperMicro in the end
  2. Here we go again 😁 what is a PWM ?
  3. Hi all, thanks to you guys on here I now have a fully functioning 4 * SSD drive NanoPiM4 using the SATA hat. What I'd like to do now, is, place the drives in some sort of drive enclosure that would have 4 SATA data inputs and be powered by the molex on the hat. Is it possible and is there such an animal ?
  4. You're probably right ( not looking at the cables closely ) I am a software engineer by trade but glaze over regarding this sort of thing. However I can report some success !!! I have one of the boards running with two 1 TB drives attached and I'm currently backing up my huge music collection to them. I've ordered some splitter cables which should arrive at the weekend. I'll keep you posted and thanks again for your help and patience.
  5. Hi there and thanks for your time, the splitters frauhottelmann mentions are of no use in this case as the hat doesn't have a connector of that type, if anything I need a female Molex -> 4 Sata power.
  6. Thanks to everyone that's replied to this thread - there is obviously a lot more research required by myself as, I can see this being a mass of cables and hot boards ( multiplied by two as I have two M4's with these hats ) I obviously need a case(s) for the drives with some connectors for power and data built in ( why don't I just buy a NAS 😜 ) wish me luck and please keep the helpful suggestions coming Thanks again
  7. Hi there and thanks for replying, are you saying If I power the hat with a 12v power supply ( which I have got ) I can simply connect the drives with the black data cables that are supplied ? Sorry for newbie questions but there seems to be many different ways of powering these drives
  8. Wow that's a lot of information I'm more confused than ever 😁 As you can probably tell I'm no hardware expert so it will probably help if I explain what I want to achieve. I want to build a central backup location on my LAN using the Nanopi M4 with SATA Hat. All the drives will be 1 TB SSDs. So my question is, what cables do I need to attach 4 drives to the hat. I will check about current and voltages when I have a clear idea about how it all fits together physically. Thanks very much for your replies , they highlight how much I need to learn.
  9. There's not much to it. If you have a heatsink then remove the four screws that attach it it to the board and replace them with the brass standoffs that are supplied with the hat. Push the hat firmly onto the header pins and put in the 4 screws. Attach the four pin Molex to the hat and the drive, then attach a SATA data cable ( the black ones ) to the hat and drive. The hat should have two led lights on. If needed format the drive.
  10. Thanks it now works but how do I connect another three drives
  11. Hi all, just fitted one of these Nanopi M4 SATA Hat and can't see how I can connect 4 drives as there is only one Molex connector - I'm probably being dumb - any help appreciated
  12. Hi Da Alchemist, I have it working now, how can I have four drives connected ? do I need a four way cable ?
  13. Doesn't work for me - what connections do you use ? I powered it with the barrel connector and connected a SSD drive with one of the black Sata cables, the board boots ok but blkid doesn't show the SSD drive
  14. Hi Nico, are you saying the Sata hat from friendlyelec is suported by Armbian ? just got my Sata hat delivered today and though I had to install the friendlyelec OS
  15. Hi all, I have a Friendlyarm nanopi M4 running armbian, I have tried to install dotnet core without success - anyone here managed it ? I followed a tutorial but when I get to the apt-get install part I see this error Couldn't find any package by glob 'dotnet-sdk-2.2'
