no UART log present, tried both 115000 that 1500000 ... putty screen is totally black

@n3o  Hey I certainly hope you backed up your existing image on the nand/emmc before you overwrote it.   And I believe @jock was very clear on the first page of this thread that armbian images should be tested out on a SDcard/USB drive before writing it to a unit's built in storage to make sure they actually boot...

I have done backup mainly for the files dts/dtb files but however android stock image was broken because android enter automatically to recovery mode. fabiobassa has confirmed me that I have a NAND chip, I don'unterstand where is the problem if it's a legacy image .

The only thing that I have solved is that now I run multitool and install image from sd card without use usb drive

dear friends
i remark that we continue to give help to someone that is not willing to listen and perhaps THIS IS FRUSTRATING and not the fact that the box is not booting

After discovered that IF ONLY HE had followed all the instructions that very kindly the users of this 3ad suggested instead of trying other magic combinations, and after we  already said thet we need uart logs and so now I  would like remember  we said to him to stay on legacy kenel that is 4.4.xxx

And guess !!

He flahsed Armbian_22.11.1_Rk322x-box_jammy_current_5.15.80_xfce_desktop.img.xz
in other words a 5.15.80 kernel

Do we need other words?

I have always post UART logs except the first time dued to my inexperience (I believe that UART log on Android was the same of UART log with sd card). For the use of kernel 4.4.xxx this is the first time, at first post it's present this url https://imola.armbian.com/dl/rk322x-box/archive/ and this url https://armbian.hosthatch.com/archive/rk322x-box/archive/ . In some circustances a noob user such me can think that image 21.02 can contain some bugs... however tomorrow I'll flash this https://armbian.hosthatch.com/archive/rk322x-box/archive/Armbian_21.08.1_Rk322x-box_buster_legacy_4.4.194_xfce_desktop.img.xz (even if I don't understand why other images more recent works to other and not to me)

@n3o  The members trying to help you are highly experienced. The important point here is for you not to treat their specific instructions as merely "suggestions" after which you go off and do your own thing.   That is where the frustration lies.

Based on the energy other users and you have spent on this, I would just buy some other TV box or SBC that is already known to run Armbian without any issues instead of trying to resurrect an old tired piece of hardware.   Unless you are really short on cash,  this is what I would do.  However, if you really are so short on cash that you cannot afford another $20USD on something else, then I believe your priorities are all wrong.

I have an H20 RK3228A tv box that is in transit that has some documented booting issues with Armbian.  In a way, I am happy to see how this whole episode has progressed.  I'm happy because now I know what NOT to do.

no doubt about the fact that are highly experienced, but they think that I'm not execute their istructions that is false. For the UART initially I don' knew what was it, after I have asked for the correct bitrate value. When I have post the first log I believed that it was something related to hardware (such a bios) and so if believed to all image, only after I have discovered about that was related to image. Same thing about image, in first post the last image was about kernel , and I have understood that armbian 22.11 was the legacy. Only yesterday I have discovered that kernel 4.4 is legacy.

However I have flashed the legacy image Armbian_21.08.1_Rk322x-box_buster_legacy_4.4.194_xfce_desktop.img.xz, system still doesn't boot but it's present the log UART, @RaptorSDS here there is the log UART

you have the USB Stick still insert thats a problem (like with sd-card only) it will interrupt bootloader

what about 4.4 on nand and no SD-card and no USB stick ?

ok soory

was irretated by usb init direct befor rknand init

than we can try "jumpstart" and hope that we can  start than armbian for SD-card ,

else we can try the more complex like write new bootloader but than someone else has to help ( i hadnt any box with need of rktool)

when I try to execute steps here https://forum.armbian.com/topic/12656-csc-armbian-for-rk322x-tv-boxes/?do=findComment&comment=121103 the box automaticaaly go to maskrom mode (I can see it because on linux vm with lsusb commands it's clearly written). I can't execute command "rkflashtool e 0 8192" because I'll get "fatal: cannot open device" on windows. It's important execute that command? Why it's already in maskrom mode?

Hi @n3o, are you using Windows? Linux ? OpenBSD? binary or compiled rkflashtool?

This is because

* on Linux maybe you don't have the right USB permission. You can switch to the super user account (super easy), or write an udev rule that chmod the USB node(easy if you know what are you doing)

* my rkflashtool uses libusb which on Windows needs the generic USB driver called WinUsb. With Windows 7 you need to right-click and install this file https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ilmich/rkflashtool/master/rockwinusb.inf. With Windows > 7 there is no need to install a driver, but you need to associate the unknown device with the USB generic driver WinUsb (I'm not a Windows user so try starting reading this link https://github.com/libusb/libusb/wiki/Windows#user-content-How_to_use_libusb_on_Windows)

* there is a bug on Windows (fixed with the latest alpha version) with multiple USB devices connected. Try, if you can, to have only the box connected with USB.

About your experiments, you wrote a lot, but I'm sorry, I'm too lazy to read:).

So if I can give you some advice, format the internal storage and forget it. Write the Armbian version you like on the SD card and stop.
This is because in addition to having a few problems, sd cards with 64/128GB are cheap and for Linux use are better than the 'little' 8 GB of internal storage that you often find in our boxes.

Cheers

Michele

edit: rkflashtool is an external tool made with love by volunteers. Obviously, there is also the contribution of @jock and @fabiobassa, but for any problem with the tool, I ask you the courtesy of opening an issue here https://github.com/ilmich/rkflashtool/issues

Hi, i want share the experiences with my MXQ_R2B_LP3_V2.62_20225, the picture is the MASKROM pads, in my board i put a switch button to do easy, this board enter in MASKROM mode when hold on jumper in pads and conect USB cabe in compunter!  I did so much try, with multitools and rkdeveloptools, I did learn use the SSH terminal, and the board is working but without HDMI,  it do boot with Multitool card and i use with ssh terminal, i saved a dmesg log, and xorg log too! What more logs i can get it? I try install Armbian legacy buster, the original and my backup from other board (R329 Ver 8.0 that working fine) and don't boot from card this images don't work, but work it ok in R329, i only get  boot from card or flashdrive usb, installing  "jump start for NAND" from multitool card and downloading in board with rkdeveloptools!  Yet don't understand the rk3228 boot process, i like use the internal memory, i don't know how 'copy' from image or card, to memory and work! I'll use it without video, i understand that is a old problem like the MXQ R29 too!  I so much grate for this forum and the dedication of every one that contributed ! Thank you!!!

PS: The memory is a "eMCP", code: 7NA92 JYA42, like in R29, I don't found the real name!

eMCP some parts are not complete support at the moment --> eMCP is a more newer thing maybe actual kernel 6.10 running better ( eMCP is eMMC+DDR Ram )

the UART log is maybe better but DMESG is still ok , i see some clock and voltage not correct--> some gpio not registred

do you try other setting with rk322x-config? --> led-config this also thange some GPIO setting for diffirent boards?

@Benedito Portela Great work and you have finding all you was needing by reading and understanding it and learning little of Linux and SSH ;-)))

If like getting the device boot on all media you need to delete or upgrade the boot bin on the internal flash.

If you deleting the internal flash the ROM in the SOC is looking for it on the SD-card and then can booting USB and other storage by "jump starting". I prefer erasing the internal storage and writing one new updated boot bin on it => you can boot from every media also if having OS installed in the internal flash by putting in one USB drive and can "test drive" other versions.

Bad thing is only supporting new kernels and not 4.X ones that need the original one for working.

The HDMI is one long story and looks like not being solved but the box is working OK and its use less power then not connecting the HDMI so the SOC is not  running so hot.

Did you getting the WiFi working ??

I only using Eth then its more stable and is not making interference with my Ziggbe / Thread networks.

USB is not stable and can needing repower for getting device coming back if they is getting problems.

Great work done brave user !!!

RaptorSDS, I must use debian buster because i use a old program, but kernel can be new, i'll try new kernel versions! I only use the armbian-config to setup in performance mode, max clock, don't configured Leds, and other things. i run now the rk3228-config and only color leds change! It have three leds, blue, red and orange, before rk3228-config, only orange blink, now the blue is on! I don't use GPIO, I use USB port and audio out, Eth and HDMI just to setup, to change configs programs!

MattWestB, I tried some boot binarys, some memory address, combinations from card multitool and image original and my image already for use,  but only boot from card or USB work! The WIFI don't work, and i don't use and a think better not use! I'll pause for now, but I'll be following the posts!

Thank you!

Can you please indicate the model of the TV/monitor you are using?!
The problem seems to lie in the edid. Some old tv's have edid with problems. It may also depend on hardware configurations, but I imagine that with the original firmware it works.

ilmich, I use AOC monitor VGA, with adapter HDMI to VGA simple. but already used in LG TV 32LK450! The firth tvbox is MX9 5g 4k, board R329Q_V8.0, the segund is MX9 4k board R329q_v3.1 and last is MXQ Pro 5G 4K board MXQ-R2B-LP3_V2.62_220225! The firth work all fine, the segund work but it a very old and not is confiable, already some errors "segment faults" can is memory problems, i don't want use it this way, the third is that don't hdmi work and i want install armbian in internal memory! The android original work all! I want have a board like backup to firth box, and used it to do configs experiences, before put in firth box!

fabiobassa, i did backup used the android tools, many files apart, i can zipper and upload, it's ok? What uploda service is better for you?

Thank you!

@MattWestB    It doesn't surprise me that the USB ports on these tv boxes are dodgy.  In my experience with an RPI3 I found that poor power supply regulation caused all sort of headaches with anything more interesting than a mouse or keyboard on the USB ports.   I now almost exclusively power usb peripherals with a inline power supply/isolator  when using anything like a wireless dongle like zigbee or zwave since these have fairly significant RF amplifiers that have high power consumption peaks.   Running something lik an SSD off the usb ports was also painfully unreliable for me.

I have a H20 RK3228 box coming in today so I'll soon be able to experience how bad these are first hand.

but in backround also many other parameter change not only the LED (led-config is a old name because before it only change some led things , but nowaday many more are change like eth speed , wlan enable pin  etc)

GPIO is more a generale name for some Outputs of the tv box , there a still many thing thats parmater by gpio like wlan on/off or correct eth speed

example ( port AO pin 1and 2 ) are gpio and can configure to be i2a for SPDIF , also AO 2 has be configure as Clock and with a parameter of  speed , also some Ports need a specific voltage

I received my "H20" RK3228A tv box today.   Here are some board pictures and boot logs of multitool-2.  HDMI display out for multitool-2 only seems to work *after* I restart the tv box from android recovery.   If I cold start it, it appears to boot normally according to the logs, but without an active HDMI output.

This is the first time I've seen this board, it is similar to the H20 V1.5 board with the blue solder mask, but this one is V1.71 and has green solder mask and a different WIFI chip.  The WIFI from an unknown IC manufacturer with part number S9082H.  If someone recognizes the logo let us know who that is.

For the H20_221_v1.71 board I have worked out the uart connections and maskrom enable point.   For maskrom, this is shorting out either the data or clock line.  I have no way to determine which unless I take this thing to the office and look at it on a logic analyzer.  The test points are probably very similar to the v1.5 board with the blue solder mask.
