Werner Posted October 19, 2020 Posted October 19, 2020 The the common log files like dmesg or syslog.
lampra Posted October 22, 2020 Posted October 22, 2020 On 10/19/2020 at 10:35 AM, Werner said: The the common log files like dmesg or syslog. Not sure if this will help. I had the same issue by the end of August with cubietruck (freezing not responding on lan or keyboard) but I thought that it was my bad as I played with the onboard wifi a while ago. I had to disable zram & zram logging as the logs were lost after re-power on. Well it seems that it was not the wifi nor I am sure yet what the issue is(was). I disabled most of the servers and also webmin and the system was running fine for a week or so. After enabling zram & zram logging again I had a freeze after 3 days (but no logs). I am now up for 8 days with zram & zram logging disabled. I will probably enable them next week and see how this goes.

Coolzero1982 Posted October 27, 2020 Author Posted October 27, 2020 Today i had the Problem again, i will now tried the solution from @lampra with dissable ZRAM, and will see . Is it enough to ENABLED=false in the /etc/default/armbian-ramlog ?
lampra Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 (edited) I just used systemctl, after your tests you can enable and start the services again. I also disabled zram not only logging, but you could test by disabling only ram logging. Please note that I did this in order to be able to trace the issue but since i disabled the two services there is no issue root@cubietruck:~# uptime 20:17:52 up 12 days, 20:20, 1 user, load average: 2.74, 2.77, 2.67 systemctl stop armbian-ramlog.service systemctl disable armbian-ramlog.service systemctl stop armbian-zram-config.service systemctl disable armbian-zram-config.service Edit: Well i forgot to say that i did experience 1 issue twice the past 12 days with transmission crashing but I am not sure if this is relevant. Though I never had issues with transmission on cubietrack using armbian for the past few years. We probably need to alter the unit file so that the daemon restarts after crashing. Here is the log: Oct 25 20:43:39 cubietruck systemd[1]: transmission-daemon.service: Main process exited, code=killed, status=7/BUS Oct 25 20:43:39 cubietruck systemd[1]: transmission-daemon.service: Failed with result 'signal'. Coolzero1982 Posted November 1, 2020 Author Posted November 1, 2020 (edited) Going Down is farther a problem. systemctl stop armbian-ramlog.service systemctl disable armbian-ramlog.service systemctl stop armbian-zram-config.service systemctl disable armbian-zram-config.service dont't the solution for me.... The logs shows now this Syslog, at 08:21 AM the Log shows a lot of Massages,, because of the Message Log ist this the time of the restart. Coolzero1982 Posted November 6, 2020 Author Posted November 6, 2020 Hi, no i can't live without this, then over fhem i use my Home Automatic, it must run ever
Werner Posted November 7, 2020 Posted November 7, 2020 Then an option may be to reach out to their creators and ask if there might be a memory leak issue?
lampra Posted November 7, 2020 Posted November 7, 2020 13 hours ago, Coolzero1982 said: it must run ever In this case you can assume (not with certainty) that the issue is originating from fhem.service (same error logged twice before freeze). Reach out to the developers and report the issue. Then you could check if there was an update of fhem before the freezes started and downgrade if possible. At the same time you could check if scheduled periodic (eg. once a day or more) reboots may be used as a workaround until the main issue is resolved. PS: you can now re-enable zram and ram logging.

Coolzero1982 Posted November 13, 2020 Author Posted November 13, 2020 Can a swap partition to be the solution?
lampra Posted November 13, 2020 Posted November 13, 2020 To my understanding zram is swap substitute. If you re-enable zram then you will have 1giga swap. Given that you had zram enabled during the first freeze I don't expect that this is a solution. Does Fhem ram usage increase overtime? 1
Coolzero1982 Posted November 15, 2020 Author Posted November 15, 2020 Zram was enable at the first problem. I have zram now enable again, and will see what comes

TRS-80 Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 Maybe do some scheduled reboot every night (or two, or whatever you feel is appropriate) as a temporary work-around until the memory leak is found. Because it might take them a while to figure that out (and they will likely also need your help/feedback). If scheduled in the middle of the night (assuming everything comes back up OK) you probably would not even notice it?
Coolzero1982 Posted November 19, 2020 Author Posted November 19, 2020 Have armbian a watchdog that can do that by a mistake or do you mean a cron?
TRS-80 Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 (edited) I meant plain old cron. Not very elegant, but not terrible, either, as a temporary workaround, IMO. I don't know anything about watchdogs (outside understanding the general concept). Maybe someone else can speak to that. Edited November 19, 2020 by TRS-80 clarity
Coolzero1982 Posted November 19, 2020 Author Posted November 19, 2020 ok, i would try a reboot every 3 days, i think this want do that sudo crontab -e 0 1 */3 * * /sbin/shutdown -r now
TRS-80 Posted November 19, 2020 Posted November 19, 2020 Yes that would give you every third day at 01:00, with the caveat that you may get a slightly shorter interval at the end of the month, depending on how many days are in that month (which does not really matter for your purposes). Maybe sure and check the cron tab is working first (do one like 5 min from now). Also make sure all your services come back up properly when you test. And remember, this is a work around. Continue to diagnose the original issue (memory leak) as time and energy allow.

lampra Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 Can you provide the output of: df -h In my case /dev/zram0 was 50M and most of it was occupied. Probably because the installation was some years ago and since then I upgrade the system leaving all the logs from all the packages that I have installed. I had a freeze and I show in the journal errors due to full /dev/zram0 So I cleaned /var/log and /var/log.hdd from ancient logs and increased /dev/zram0 to 100M. It has been 5 days now that the system is up without issues. The load reported is probably a bug, if you upgrade to 20.11 its ok

TRS-80 Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 What does htop say about the load? Is it constant or just a brief spike?
