SleepWalker 4
Hi! Does anyone have experience comparing ZFS performance on different operating systems on the same hardware. It is very interesting to compare the performance on FreeBSD and Linux.
Werner 320
For a practical example there would be a need to put FreeBSD on your Helios64 which I am not aware of that it is possible (yet). I know from other RK3399 boards that they can run FreeBSD with a few issues though.
SleepWalker 4
I don't see any particular problem installing FreeBSD on Helios64. It works for me. The question is - how to properly test this?
Werner 320
Interesting. Didn't know it is possible and you already tinkered with this. Great job. For others FYI: https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/freebsd-desktop-for-rk3399-sbc.76090/
SleepWalker 4
Yes it works on version 13.0-CURRENT, and there is OpenZFS in it. Here is the boot log. Boot.log Welcome to FreeBSD!
Werner 320
Cool. Is there some kind a supported table to know which features of the RK3399 work and which not? you know the causal stuff like HDMI output, USB-C, cpufreqd and so on... Curious about putting it on a NanoPi R4S (RK3399, 4G LPDDR4, dual GBe, headless)

But enthusiasts manage to install FreeBSD on many SBCs. For example ganbold@freebsd.org installed on NanoPI R4S not only FreeBSD but OPNsense! Twitter I learned to do it for Rock Pi-E.
