Ok guys, Hi.

So I have managed to connect box Q96MAX 4k Ultra HD, board MXQ_R2B_LP3_V2.62_220225 via maskrom mode, made EMMC backup, erased it.

btw thanks @MattWestB for your photos of  pins https://github.com/MattWestb/R29-MXQ-LP3-V2.3-00908

Anyway,

Box boots armbian legacy from SD card, I have managed to connect to it via SSH, device specs.

Detected board features:                                                             │
                                                           │ Chip type: RK3228A/B - Serial: URKW46025 00000000032b0c                              │

│ Wifi device: unknown - Device ID: 02d0:4334

EDIT2:

installed RDP client, can connect to device via RDP...HDMI NO Output

ok so thanks to this post https://github.com/MattWestb/R29-MXQ-LP3-V2.3-00908/blob/main/README.md  armbian parameters set to emmc-hs200, ddr3-660 and led-config2, led started to work.

@MattWestB can you please comment how you fixed your box HDMI and wifi?:)

EDIT:

ok so ARMBIAN non legacy boots too, but same problems with WIFI and HDMI no video.

@sadp Your wifi chip is not supported by the brcmfmac driver; there is a patch for rockchip64 family but not for rk322x.

I will make a Pull Request to add the patch for rk322x but have to be patient, wait a couple of weeks and it will be probably available for edge 6.4 kernel. You are on current 6.1 right now, so perhaps you may want to switch when the new kernel will be available.

About the missing HDMI, it is a known problem for all R29 boards; @Hudson FAS gently offered to send me a board of such kind for me to inspect and try to fix the issue, so patience here too.

Actually I don't remember your issue (the last post was 3 months ago), but I see @RaptorSDS was already in contact with you.

ok, I want install armbian but also multiboot doesn't worked very well... what step I should do? I think that is unuseful make a backup of a Android system damaged, so how I can make the bootloader upgrade described here https://forum.armbian.com/topic/12656-csc-armbian-for-rk322x-tv-boxes/?do=findComment&comment=121103 ?

2. For the bootloader file, I have a file named rk322x_loader_v1.10.256.bin but I don't remember where I have download it, can You tell me if I should download the updated file from here https://github.com/ilmich/rkflashtool/tree/master/bin ? and what file ?

 ?

3. After this, in first post isn't explained difference between images here https://imola.armbian.com/dl/rk322x-box/archive/ , so what is the difference between bookworm and jammy? and what are the differences between <<standard (without nothing added)>>, xfce, minimal and wm?

It's explained only current, edge and legacy

Hi,

got the same board as

TV box different brand:

MXQ PRO 4K 5G

Bought recently, so probably all got the same board ;)

MultiTool works fine, can flash and erase via SSH

Problem is that no image for rk322x box works, no working HDMI.

Only when I boot it with LAN plugged in - yellow Led blinks - but no IP is assigned.

Edit:

Or it does work but there is no SSH enabled in armbian ?

I dont rly need HDMI and GPU at all, just wonna reach ssh :(

it doesnt get IP from DHCP ...

how can I make this? In putty the last lines automatically appear, it's not SSH. What should I do ? Can You tell me from the log posted what bootloader file flash?

I'm a java developer, sadly not always it's possible found a complete course from A to Z (for example, in linux, a course that cover vmlinuz, disk partition, boot (bios and uefi), virtual machine, dsa network config, ecc ecc) ... so I have fragmentated concepts ... to this add that I'm not a system administrator so it's easy forgotten also the basis. In electronic instead I don't know nothing (this is related to the UART problem).

it's not SSH

its better its a serial console , you can interact with linux over tty Serial connect (you have with this now with UART) , when multitool is running like in a ssh session

ssh is a forwarde serial console over ip (more or less)

when you run headless ( without gui) linux do the same a serial console is than also forwarde to HDMI (more or less)

both have same source , both use same tools and programm

Debian has philosophy "no close source" but your are able to install them when need

Ubuntu is from start with close source software but that makes its sometime bigger and more complex

both can use xcfe and other gui  ( some of the image files already have xfce active) , when you only need server go with minimal

so I should just insert microsd with multitool and I can start procedure of @jock ? What bootloader file should I load?

in the first post, at section "Quick installation instructions on NAND" at point 2 is written "Burn the Multitool on an SD card; once done, place the Armbian legacy kernel image in images folder of the SD card FAT partition"... it's possible use only legacy kernel?

Ok, I have atached to UART, and looks like armbian boots

but no HDMI, no IP from LAN

edit: Ok Lan and SSH started to work after first login ;) nice

any solution for not working HDMI ?

edit2:

Legacy 4.4 works (noHDMI),

mainline doesnt, kernel panic (currentkernel.txt)

i can not hep by flash any other bootloader or make nand work with newer kernel ,  i dont understand why only kernel that make no sense , flash legay armbian and go on with the box , else put legacy image on the box and than show the log

we can look why maybe the box dont boot full to armbian

you can save also android because maybe we need dts/dtb or anything else and extract it out of image file

that  why i was wonder , kernel is a part of linux but  some  like Android sometime have that as a seperate partion or like rasberry you can update kernel only

also you talk about bootloader upgrade and i am was confuse about what you want and your knowloge about flashing this box with linux

vor 1 Stunde schrieb n3o:

no save android

dts/dtb are config file for kernel--> tell kernel where to look at for lan or wich memory or clock to use for hdmi and so on

i thinks easy step are on page 1 when your box is nand than follow the step with a legacy armbian image and have fun with this box

@sadp I using my box headless and by not connecting the HDMI its not running so warm (i doing the same with my RK3318 box that is having HDMI working OK last time i was looking) and i using local comport for the initial config and then SSH so no need for desktop for my.

Also i running Zigbee and Thred RCP and WiFi is only making problems so i only using Eth for not getting interference with my 802.15.4 mesh networks.

Only real problems beside the box is very easy running hot is that the USB implementation is nerving if one device is having problems and the system is disconnecting it the system must being repowered for the system finding it and its the same for the RK3318 box so its one RK thing that is not working very well.

My firs problem was that the box was not liking the bootloader but i was finding one working one and flashing it to the eMCC and after that i have no problem installing armbian on the internal storage and can booting SD and USB storage for testing other armbian builds so its very good only the box is only having 8G internal flash so i have mounting the SD-card as docker data so HA supervised have enough storage for installing and working OK.

I want install the most recent image of armbian with gui (so I don't want android) and in first post is written that it's necessary update bootloader "For fearless and bold people who are having issues when (re)booting images, there is the chance to upgrade the bootloader on NAND".

So I prefer update bootloader and after that install the most recent image. For the bootloader I should use one of the 2 files here https://github.com/ilmich/rkflashtool/tree/master/bin but now reading the steps on the first post I have discovered that only legacy armbian image can be used. Now, the new question is: what is the difference between bullseye and jammy? Jammy isn't available with gui?

I'm not very expert about linux and flashing, I know only that bootloader is such a bios ...

ok, where I can find this file (and how to reach destination if android no more boot)? What is the path? When I install the armbian image to make restore I have just copy and paste the files?

Yes correct --> NAND install = legacy armbian

but you can boot latest Armbian from SD card or USB and ignore NAND complete

Bootloader update only possible with male - male USB cable and rktool outside of the box

there are 3 bootloader

1. open ones ,  SD-Card , USB and NAND boot allow , boot SD-CARD/USB also if there a OS in NAND or install Armbian legacy to nand

2. open ones  , SD-Card USB Boot  NAND boot allow but boot NAND first , there you can try the new point in Multitool "Jump start " that always redirect boot to SD-Card   or install Armbian legacy to nand

3 close ones (rare ones), that the ones with probleme where you have to update bootloader

Please !!! do the simple steps first , simple install legacy to nand and try it --> flash multitool on SD-card , put image file in the folder , start multitool , save android , clean nand and install(flash) armbian to nand

or flash image file on sd-card and boot armbian legacy or  newest

we do need them only when all other failed  , RK322x have some already inside armbian , many work with many diffirent setups and hardware already no need to do 10 step ahead

please simple first !!!!

please dont do this 10 steps ahead , i only want to say make a backup of android its good to have one also if corrupt .

Is booting from SD card not supported? Do I need to write the image to eMMC?

Thanks in advance for any pointers!

Yes correct --> NAND install = legacy armbian

but you can boot latest Armbian from SD card or USB and ignore NAND complete

ok

Bootloader update only possible with male - male USB cable and rktool outside of the box

there are 3 bootloader

1. open ones ,  SD-Card , USB and NAND boot allow , boot SD-CARD/USB also if there a OS in NAND or install Armbian legacy to nand

2. open ones  , SD-Card USB Boot  NAND boot allow but boot NAND first , there you can try the new point in Multitool "Jump start " that always redirect boot to SD-Card   or install Armbian legacy to nand

3 close ones (rare ones), that the ones with probleme where you have to update bootloader

ok, the 2 bootloader here https://github.com/ilmich/rkflashtool/tree/master/bin do You know of what type are?

Please !!! do the simple steps first , simple install legacy to nand and try it --> flash multitool on SD-card , put image file in the folder , start multitool , save android , clean nand and install(flash) armbian to nand

referred to legacy armbian, what is difference between bullseye and jammy? Both kernel are current and both are 5.15.80.

or flash image file on sd-card and boot armbian legacy or  newest

I think it's bettere install legacy armbian to nand, and only after this flash armbian newest to sd (I think it's possible boot system directly from sd without install , true?)
