Want Armbian t-shirt or a cup?

By the way. A word of warning to anyone getting a Nanopi Neo bare board (without RJ45 and USB connectors). I bought a RJ435 Magjack from Sparkfun to provide the Ethernet connection. Although the dimensions and pinout match perfectly with the circuit board it simply doesnt work at all. A careful reading of the Neo schematics, and the circuit details of the Hanrun magjack FA used and the Sparkfun one I see that although they are not wired the same internally. The correct Magjack to use is a Hanrun HR911105A. They are hard to find in the US but $0.75 each from Aliexpress.

Another bit of feedback on the mainline - vanilla Jessie. Only one of the three USB ports is active, USB0. USB1 and USB2 are disabled. For comparison I booted the FA Ubuntu core and the USB ports are OK. Perhaps this is another device tree issue?

Short Feedback:

 

ARMBIAN Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS 4.6.7-sun8i works fine on the NanoPi NEO and GNU Octave also installed fine.

 

Thank you for making armbian such a smooth experience.

I will report more once I get my complete compute stack set up.

Explained in post #167 of this thread. And you don't need to boot FA images since with our legacy kernel images everything else is also fine. As soon as NEO is supported by u-boot the issue will be resolved (but it takes too much time to patch with this device tree stuff around)

Not really, see above. USB is not working due to using Orange Pi One settings and throttling needs some love/attention. Currently the dvfs / cpufreq / throttling settings for all H3 boards with the primitive voltage regulator are pretty bad and need improvements (ability to use 912 MHz CPU clockspeed, better throttling since now when throttling occurs NEO will jump between 816 and 1200 MHz and never uses the 1008 MHz in between).

 

But things will improve in the future for sure. And it's nice to know that people pay no attention to stuff like that :)

I just got an order of another 6 of the NEO's and they look to be a different board revision there is a different silkscreen and some small components have moved.

The new revision seems to run much cooler. 34c (New) vs 44c (Old) at 7-10% CPU.

Yes, PCB rev 1.1 is slightly different, added yesterday stuff to our wiki: http://linux-sunxi.org/FriendlyARM_NanoPi_NEO#See_also(thanks for mentioning that heat emissions seem to have improved -- can you spot a difference regarding the PCB? Thicker? Copper layers inside?)

 

It would be great if you could provide from both board revisions the output from 'sudo armbianmonitor -m' while running 

sysbench --test=cpu --cpu-max-prime=20000 run --num-threads=4

Would be good if the output contains 10 seconds before you start sysbench and 180 seconds after. And of course environmental conditions should be identical (same place, same temperatures, same OS image, same PSU :) )

Armbian 5.20, Debian Jessie, kernel 4.7.4, uboot 09.2016 don't boot on Nanopi Neo 512  :(

I checked after upgrading from version 5.17 (kernel 4.7.3) and built from source.
Version 3.4.112 works well.
Tomorrow I will try to debug.

I made a quick test on Orange Pi One and I could boot into self build kernel 4.7.4 ... network works, but only one CPU is detected. I did not investigate why ...

 

Since we are talking about immature kernel, problems are expected. This kernel is from our point of view still in testing mode and not yet for usage so we don't support it. If it does not work, you are basically on your own. Of course we will try to help and we are happy to get feedback and if it's possible, we will fix it, but not right on the spot.

Hi All, As you know, with Default OS presented by FreandlyARM, Many apps & Features are disabled. for example, it hasn't nano editor, python3 and either it's most known libraries,flexibility for installing most of new apps, and so on. I really can't tolerate this situation that i had to try many ways, just for installing one python3 library!! :( .

 

while your Beta OS is extremely better in this fields, but it is suffers too from Somethings like AUDIO Output(& maybe input?), Usb device compatibility , OTG support, and long boot time.

 

So,you will be glad all, if you can work harder to make better one, that you can support, and we can relay that.a version with good performance and application.

i am in the same crazy situation... first tests... maybe i can help you with some info... and we get this solved together... :)

 

1. I think you should update and upgrade the available distro.

2. Then you should just install the actual kernel which is simply availabe via apt-get install.

But after rebooting my NanoPI Neo doesn't answer anymore on SSH Terminal...

 

So i miss something too...

 

I don't think that there is a really actual readymade image actually simply for download...

The one thing does not work (the USB port) has to be fixed by using the dtc tool (the vanilla images for NEO rely on device tree configuration for Orange Pi One where usb1 is exposed as the single type A USB port while it's usb3 on NanoPi NEO). And of course the vanilla images available for some H3 boards are considered experimental which means any 'apt-get upgrade' from apt.armbian.com might render them unusable.

 

Also performance should be lower (not optimized cpufreq / throttling settings now). And as Zador already mentioned: very low priority to change that (we're waiting for dvfs and Ethernet patches becoming more stable and included upstream). We released the images back then to get some feedback regarding dvfs / cpufreq scaling (to no avail) and they remain in exactly this state: For developers only :)

Since we're talking about Armbian we already ship with this package installed by default on any of our images:

You have to convert the used .dtb to .dts, enable there the usb3 nodes and convert back to .dtb (I would then choose a different name and adjust boot.cmd as outlined here).

Ok, tried to have a from scratch build here.

 

Got Ubuntu 14.04 LTS x64.

Followed the instructions on armbian documentation and specifically the things mentioned in https://github.com/igorpecovnik/lib.

I do not know what that "setsockopt IP_TOS 16: Invalid argument:" is though..

 

Any way, tried to use a WiFi dongle (RTL8192CU) but was not as easy as expected, although I see it with lsmod and dmesg
