Hey vice,

Maybe you can tell me a bit more about the issues after erasing NAND... Actually I also have issues since erasing NAND with system stability...

What were you're experiences and how did you solve the issues?

Bonne nuit @gurzixo (I hope you are enjoying Algarve, I plan to go living there when I retire ;) )

@jock and @gurzixo, unfortunately I think my board is really broke. I tried several times connecting in both Win and Linux, with no success. No connecting sound in Windows, no lights on the board, nothing in rkdevtool.

I've connected the board through a serial adapter and here's what it shows:

I gues there's nothing I can do to revive the board... I've learned my lesson about buying boards without SD slot.

Bad thing: you tried something that was totally not suited for your board.

If your board still boots, please don't try it again or you overwrite the bootloader.

The update will come via regular apt upgrade when Armbian team will rebuild the APT packages (I don't know the date, maybe it already happened...)

In fact instructions in no case tell to erase flash when you use multitool.

In case of NAND chip (and multitool clearly tells you when the board is equipped with NAND), you must use steP-nand, as stated per instructions

@KSilva

That does not look at all the serial output of the board, but rather some Windows log of some sort.

You are definitely not reading the board serial output correctly.

With multitool step 4 we did these instructions. Then we could able to find nand chip.Today we are going to install legacy image with multitool without erasing.Jock wrote something about the solution here

but we removed oflag after his commands.

Final commands are here to recover nand chips.

step1   mount /dev/mmcblk0p1 /mnt

step2   dd if=/mnt/bsp/legacy-uboot.img of=/dev/rknand0 bs=4M seek=1

step3   dd if=/mnt/bsp/trustos.img of=/dev/rknand0 bs=4M seek=2

step4    sync

step5     exit

enter after steps

Good Morning, I have a tv box model r29-5g-v1.2-221, I tried both the distribution of the armbian for the rk322x and the Multitool, and configuring the normal distribution with the dtb rk322x is only the red led on and using the multitool is the flashing orange led. the network card is the sv6256p and the memory is the TYDOGH221644RC 8G + 1g the chip is the rk3229tvbox1.jpegtvbox2.jpegtvbox3.jpeg

Hi @jock, serial connections are new to me, sorry for that. After searching for a while I managed to connect the board and here is the log. There are some strange characters in there, maybe I'm setting the wrong speed? (set it to 115200)

But it seems that there is no boot.env. At least the board isn't completely dead and is strugling to survive :)

@KSilva that's much better!

The main reason you get a garbled output is because your ground wire is not connected to the right pin on the board, the wire is not thick enough or it is not connected at all.

Serial is veeery easy, you just have receive (RX) and transmit (TX) pins, plus the ground which is the most important wire because it is going to be the referral voltage for both the chatters. One chatter (the PC) is using the TX pin to send characters and the other chatter (the BOX) is receving on the RX pin, and viceversa.

Indeed you found the TX pin of the box, because we are getting some sensible data; maybe you need to swap the other two wires and see if it gets any better.

Anyway, from what I see, this is your current situation: part of the armbian image has been installed correctly, because you can see U-boot v2020.10 booting.

Since u-boot is installed, you should be able to burn the Multitool on a USB stick and place an Armbian image in the images folder.

Plug the USB stick in the OTG port and then turn on the box. You should see something like the following, where two USB devices are detected and one is a storage device:

scanning bus usb@30040000 for dmvices... 2 USB Device(s+ fou~d
▒ scanning usb fos storage devices... 1 Storage Device(s) found

If you get zero storage devices, unplug the power and try the other USB port.

Hopefully you should get the multitool up and running, and then install the armbian image from there.

If you need full instructions refer to the first page: you can follow the procedure on how to install on eMMC using sdcard, but just use the USB stick instead.

Notes:

  • You may notice that the message "Scanning bus..." is repeated twice: it is normal, it is a workaround to make USB boot
  • Some USB sticks are not working really well: that's a problem of the u-boot USB code. If you get errors, maybe try with another USB stick. Recent ones seems to work better
  • You should be even able to boot Armbian from USB stick: just decompress the Armbian image and burn it as is on the USB stick

@jockFollowing your advice, I readjusted the connections (it got substantially better) and managed to get a little further. However, there seems to be a problem related to kernel?

Sidenote for future refference to everyone with this board: The OTG port is the one labeled "USB1" that is closest to the Reset button.

I burned multitool on a USB stick and tried first with an armbian image (Armbian_21.02.3_Rk322x-box_buster_legacy_4.4.194) and here is the log:

  Reveal hidden contents

Then I figured I could try with an "official" android image and the result was the following:

  Reveal hidden contents

Maybe I should try a different image with older kernel?

I'm almost seeing the light at the end of the tunnel ;)

@KSilva I think that the problem is just that you have an old Multitool which was not properly working on USB sticks.

How much bricked?

You can just use the multitool again and use the restore function to install back the backup you did.

@Hoangtnt Nguyen multitool dmesg log looks quite ok, but as long as you say that you need maskrom mode to restore board functionality I guess the problem is related to memory initialization.

We fixed the memory initialization some weeks ago, but the images on the official Armbian download page require a refresh.

In the meantime you can try this image I just build: it is a Debian Buster minimal image with legacy 4.4 kernel. If you need something different just ask and I will happy to compile it for you.

still bricked, only blue led light and must recover by Mask rom. I compare two dmesg log when up android rom and armbian rom that u just post, they differ in the order in which they load mmc_host mmc. thx

@Hoangtnt Nguyen I don't know what is going on: I compiled the image yesterday but all the logs you posted shows "9 Apr", also there is evidence that the Trust Os is not OPTEE, as shipped with the image, but is the rockchip blob.

You're not using the image as is, aren't you?

bad news,my box is brick.i try to connect emmc clk resistance and GND,it can be go into maskrom.

try to use:

sudo ./rkdeveloptool rd 3
Reset Device failed!
sudo ./rkdeveloptool db rk322x_loader_v1.10.256.bin
Downloading bootloader...

and wait for long time, bootloader can't download

maybe hardware problem,ang suggestion?

Hmmm, there very odd. I just tried the loader and it works fine on my board. Did you download it recently? There was a severe bug that prevented some boards to boot we fixed some weeks ago.

Can you tell me what is in the eMMC now? Did you install Armbian on it?

Do Multitool boots?

The first error you report is not really an error: the device is already in maskrom mode, so it fails.

Anyway you can do two things:

edit: I don't ask you the serial log because you said the pins are hidden somewhere, but if you want to spend some time to find them out it would be very effective to pin down the issue ;)

I don't know of any Android ROM you are talking about, but surely you should understand why your log show 9 Apr.

I suggest you to boot with the Multitool and do a internal flash erase, since you did experiments I don't know what's on your eMMC that takes control: instructions on first page are very clear on what to do.

Also maybe your sdcard is faulty or it is in phantom read-only mode (ie: it allows writes but actually nothing is really written)

This are the first lines of the dmesg log of the image I gave you:

  Reveal hidden contents

Your log is totally different, so you have a problem of another kind not related to Armbian images.

Hello @edouard_k,

Can you upload the original device firmware for RK3229-MXQ-V3.0 again?

This link https://cloud.kleinhans.info/index.php/s/8JoXHHwHFWAH7Z7 is expired.

Thank you!

@fabiobassa is there any chance you still have this firmware? I can't find it anywhere!

Thanks!

@KSilva I think that the problem is just that you have an old Multitool which was not properly working on USB sticks.

Download a fresh copy from the first page, the latest version shows 52d0101 - Sun, 14 Mar 2021 15:11:23 +0000 on top of the screen

That was it!!

I had Multitool from January (not that old) but as soon as I got a new copy, it worked flawlessly with the USB stick.

The board is finally live and running thanks to you

log show 9 apr 2020, but i dont have rom that at 9 apr, perhap it show that because i get it from multitool bash shell, i alway boot with multitool and install with first page instructions. i flashed many box with rk322x but that box is new version with emcp not with emmc and ram separate, and failed :(. after flash and shutdown it cant boot and only go to Mask Rom mode flash one rom with rk322x ( I use H96 Mini H8 rom )  , it can boot and i use Multitool to restore orginal ROM. Perhap i must use libreelec temporary with that box version. thx
