  2. You might insult many people if you compare Armbian with Dietpi. They download Armbian (firmware is binary copy), run BASH script to re-brand, add their script junk and sell as "supported". When bug is found they say "oh, this trash Armbian", when someone say compliment, they take it. This is how piracy works in open source. Compliment and recognition of work is everything. They contribute nothing to Armbian, nor its possible to take anything. Where we would, as community, progress, if we would just steal and pretend? Board manufacturer is responsible to fix this problem. They know how and where change is needed. But ... they compete with OS we made with us. Are you sure, you are long enough around to see it all?

  4. Hi, In a bid to solve an issue with my NAS (which I now think was a dying HDD) I foolishly decided to upgrade from buster to bullseye and now most, if not all, of the services are failing to start - including network-manager, sshd and fancontrol so I only have access via the USB serial console. By setting a static IP I have been able to get it network access at least. When I try to start any of the dead services it hangs for a minute or so, then kicks me back to the login and the terminal is corrupted so I need to reboot before I'm able to do anything meaningful. (I am able to start fancontrol by just running `fancontrol` at which point the fans stop going at 100%, so I don't think there's a config issue there at least.) Please help! The upgrade was done with sudo sed -i 's#/debian-security bullseye/updates# bullseye-security#g' /etc/apt/sources.list sudo sed -i 's/buster/bullseye/g' /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*.list sudo sed -i 's/buster/bullseye/g' /etc/apt/sources.list sudo sed -i 's/buster/bullseye/g' /etc/apt/sources.list.d.save/*.list apt full-upgrade root@helios2:~# cat /etc/apt/sources.list deb http://deb.debian.org/debian bullseye main contrib non-free # deb-src http://deb.debian.org/debian bullseye main contrib non-free deb http://deb.debian.org/debian bullseye-updates main contrib non-free # deb-src http://deb.debian.org/debian bullseye-updates main contrib non-free deb http://deb.debian.org/debian bullseye-backports main contrib non-free # deb-src http://deb.debian.org/debian bullseye-backports main contrib non-free # deb http://security.debian.org/ bullseye/updates main contrib non-free deb http://security.debian.org/debian-security bullseye-security main contrib non-free # deb-src http://security.debian.org/ bullseye/updates main contrib non-free root@helios2:~# cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/* deb http://apt.armbian.com bullseye main bullseye-utils bullseye-desktop deb [signed-by=/etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/gluster.gpg] https://download.gluster.org/pub/gluster/glusterfs/LATEST/Debian/10/arm64/apt buster main deb [signed-by=/etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/gluster.gpg] https://download.gluster.org/pub/gluster/glusterfs/LATEST/Debian/10/arm64/apt bullseye main deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/gluster/glusterfs-7/ubuntu oracular main # deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/gluster/glusterfs-7/ubuntu oracular main It looks like ix.io is down right now so I can't share `armbianmonitor -u` root@helios2:~# uname -a Linux helios2 5.15.93-rockchip64 #23.02.2 SMP PREEMPT Fri Feb 17 23:48:36 UTC 2023 aarch64 GNU/Linux root@helios2:~# systemctl status --all | grep dead -C 3 │ ├─1435 /sbin/sulogin │ ├─1436 bash │ ├─5144 systemctl status --all │ └─5145 grep dead -C 3 ├─dev-hugepages.mount └─system-getty.slice -- ● dev-disk-by\x2duuid-406e7e7d\x2d9517\x2d44af\x2dbcde\x2d4de3adbc6b80.device - /dev/disk/by-uuid/406e7e7d-9517-44af-bcde-4de3adbc6b80 Loaded: loaded Active: inactive (dead) ● dev-disk-by\x2duuid-9b0108f1\x2d5a11\x2d4f24\x2dabd0\x2daebb458ebbd7.device - ST4000DM004-2CV104 1 Follow: unit currently follows state of sys-devices-platform-f8000000.pcie-pci0000:00-0000:00:00.0-0000:01:00.0-ata2-host1-target1:0:0-1:0:0:0-block-sda-sda1.device -- ● data-glusterfs-sda1.mount - /data/glusterfs/sda1 Loaded: loaded (/etc/fstab; generated) Active: inactive (dead) Where: /data/glusterfs/sda1 What: /dev/disk/by-uuid/406e7e7d-9517-44af-bcde-4de3adbc6b80 Docs: man:fstab(5) -- ● proc-sys-fs-binfmt_misc.mount - Arbitrary Executable File Formats File System Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/proc-sys-fs-binfmt_misc.mount; static; vendor preset: enabled) Active: inactive (dead) Where: /proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc What: binfmt_misc Docs: https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/admin-guide/binfmt-misc.html -- ● bootsplash-ask-password-console.path - Dispatch Password Requests to Console Directory Watch when bootsplash is active Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/bootsplash-ask-password-console.path; enabled; vendor preset: enabled) Active: inactive (dead) Condition: start condition failed at Thu 2024-05-09 20:42:45 BST; 23min ago └─ ConditionPathExists=/sys/devices/platform/bootsplash.0/enabled was not met Unit apparmor.service could not be found. ● systemd-ask-password-console.path - Dispatch Password Requests to Console Directory Watch Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/systemd-ask-password-console.path; static; vendor preset: enabled) Active: inactive (dead) Docs: man:systemd-ask-password-console.service(8) ● systemd-ask-password-wall.path - Forward Password Requests to Wall Directory Watch Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/systemd-ask-password-wall.path; static; vendor preset: enabled) Active: inactive (dead) since Thu 2024-05-09 20:44:16 BST; 22min ago Docs: man:systemd-ask-password-console.service(8) Warning: Journal has been rotated since unit was started. 5. @SUPA The warpme patches need work to implement into Armbian. That is what I have been trying to do. When and if we get it right, they should be included into the Armbian system. In the meantime clone my repository, which has the patches implemented, and build your flavour of system from there. cd ~/ git clone https://github.com/stephengraf/armbian_build_sg.git cd armbian_build_sg ./compile.sh The HDMI sound should work immediately. The analog needs to be enabled as @sasa suggested: /usr/bin/amixer -c 0 set 'Left Output Mixer DACL' 100% unmute /usr/bin/amixer -c 0 set 'Left Output Mixer DACR' 100% unmute /usr/bin/amixer -c 0 set 'Right Output Mixer DACL' 100% unmute /usr/bin/amixer -c 0 set 'Right Output Mixer DACR' 100% unmute
  6. Thanks for the suggestion. There was no option for kernels in armbian-config -> software. I there was an option to switch to nightly in armbian-config -> system and I executed that. It installed a new kernel and now the system hangs on the 4 pixel rainbow screen. I should probably have mentioned that this is on a Pi CM4 booting from an NVME SSD. I'm trying things out on that to avoid swapping NVME SSDs on my Pi 5. I'm aware that RpiOS runs different kernels on Pi 4 vs. Pi 4B/CM4 but they install both and choose the correct one during boot.

  11. Where is this done? Is this done in the source for the hantro module? If I wanted to experiment by enabling the hantro H.264 decoder, how would I do that? Is this the same patch used by LibreELEC? I have H.264 decoding working, so I definitely want to try this.

  15. Hello, I tried the new desktop image and it boots nicely off an SD card, I haven' tried my nvme drive yet. The desktop user experience is very smooth, so well done to everyone who made this work! The ethernet port works well, but unfortunately wifi and bluetooth does not work at all, I do not even see a wifi interface if I use "ip a" (but loopback and ethernet show up). Is this a case of a missing driver in Ambian? How do I add the missing driver? Wifi and bluetooth works under debian (as provided by Radxa), so I ran "sudo lshw -C network" under debian and get the output below: description: Wireless interface physical id: a logical name: wlan0 serial: 98:03:cf:d2:32:7c capabilities: ethernet physical wireless configuration: broadcast=yes driver=aicwf_sdio driverversion=5.10.160-33-rk356x multicast=yes wireless=IEEE 802.11 Finally, please see this link for log data and information about my set-up etc, I notice there are some bluetooth error messages. https://paste.armbian.com/umazejomut

  17. Hello Armbian community, Firstly, thank you for the amazing work that you do. Having Armbian has made the setup process so simple, and I really appreciate that I'm completely new to the world of SBCs and Armbian (but not Linux), and this issue had me stumped for a long time. I wanted to share the solution for those who are in the same position as me, as I only found this on Raspberry Pi resources. Sorry if this has already been covered elsewhere in the forums - my searches didn't show any answers from here, and additionally, I keep getting time-locked (forced to wait 30sec) for every forum search. The model of OPI I have is the Orange Pi Zero 2W 4G RAM. I installed the Armbian Bookworm image (Armbian_24.2.6_Orangepizero2w_bookworm_current_6.6.28_minimal.img.xz). The SD card I'm using is a 32GB SanDisk card that is A1 speed. That was a lucky purchase considering I knew nothing of SD cards when I bought it - I just got the cheap thing, lmao. The Problem & its Symptoms The issue I initially had was that when I would try to SSH into my OPI, it would hang for a really long time after inputting user credentials before spitting out something or other about a broken pipe (in other words, timed out because of no user input). I could ping the OPI and it would return the appropriate results: PING 192.168.1.154 (192.168.1.154) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from 192.168.1.154: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=127 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.154: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=4.15 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.154: icmp_seq=3 ttl=64 time=2.13 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.154: icmp_seq=4 ttl=64 time=3.97 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.154: icmp_seq=5 ttl=64 time=5.19 ms 64 bytes from 192.168.1.154: icmp_seq=6 ttl=64 time=2.80 ms ^C --- 192.168.1.154 ping statistics --- 6 packets transmitted, 6 received, 0% packet loss, time 5007ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 2.133/24.182/126.853/45.926 ms Unlike a lot of other posts on the forum where the host was unreachable, it wasn't a problem in this instance. I made sure to run `# systemctl enable --now ssh` for the SSH service when setting up for the first time. When I'd try to SSH in, `systemctl status ssh` would say the session was open for my client. Unfortunately, on the client side that was never reflected, but it did show that there wasn't any other kind of network problem at play. The same problem happened without any firewall enabled, so that was not the problem either. I reinstalled the OS 3 times, all times using Balena Etcher, though the first time I did it directly from the .img file rather than the .xz archive. The issue was still not fixed after all those times. There was the option to reset the OpenSSH host keys but I thought every reinstall I did effectively did that anyway, so I didn't bother. :> After a bit of searching elsewhere, I discovered this: https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/143142/has-anyone-solved-raspberry-pi-zero-w-ssh-client-loop-send-disconnect-broken Basically, "...open-ssh has relatively recently begun using quality-of-service (QoS) metrics to try to optimize its performance based on the expected behavior of the connection, and its default is to assume a reliability that the Pi Zero W's tiny wifi simply can't deliver; as a result it gets caught waiting for lost packets rather than retrying." The Solution As outlined in the linked post: 1. Open /etc/ssh/sshd_conf with your editor of choice 2. Append `IPQoS 0x00` to the file (append meaning add at the end). This disables the quality of service metrics 3. Restart SSH service (`# systemctl restart ssh`) I can now SSH into the OPI nicely. 21. A friendly warning about doing above. MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT CHANGE OWNERSHIP OF FILES IN YOUR HOME THAT SHOULD STILL BELONG TO ROOT OR OTHER USERS/GROUPS!!!! As I stated before, just blindly changing everything in your userspace to belong to you MIGHT work, but I recommend against it since this seems to be something that happened immediately after you wrote the img. Safest way is to reinstall and follow the correct procedure.

  23. Necro thread, but wanted to clarify since not mentioned. The raspberry pi imager does way more than just "write the img to the sd card". It is aimed for use with rpiOS not "any img file". Use something other than that.
