  1. Of course, I don't know how I managed not to see that... 🙄 Anyway, it's working after disabling the desktop in armbian-config and removing a few packages. Will the kernel be updated automagically, or should I burn a new image from time to time to get an up to date one? Thanks.
  2. Fantastic, the board is now running Armbian. 🤩 I don't know where/when I failed, but I now have to find how to properly remove the desktop packages, as this will only be used through SSH with the command line. I'm impressed by the 2160p30 resolution for such a small/inexpensive board.
  3. Yes, my fault, as often. Sorry @balbes150, I will try another image or do my homework. I don't like Ubuntu, but a running Ubuntu is way better than a non-running Debian. 😁
  4. Thanks. I have downloaded and burned with Etcher Armbian_22.08.0-trunk_Nezha_sid_current_6.1.0.img I haven't yet put any UART2USB on that board, but nothing outputs on the mini-HDMI. I can see a login prompt when using Ubuntu. I have added a cheapo (no name with the "Lemorele" name) USB-C Hub (that worked with Ubuntu) so that I get Ethernet, and my router has not seen anything new on the network. I have also tried the WaveShare hat (based on Realtek RTL8152B) that gave the same result.
  5. I haven't managed yet to boot my MQ-Pro wih Armbian, but will retry later on. I want to experiment with Docker, but it will take ages on the machine itself (lots of packages/tools to compile). Do you think I could use your repo as a base to work on so that the docker binary is built on the machine that builds the image, and not on the target machine once Armbian is installed? Thanks.
  6. I hope to be able to test it by Sunday on my MQ-Pro. Thanks for your work @balbes150.
  7. Does anyone running Armbian Sid or Ambian Jammy on this board can tell me if any openJDK is available? It is for the official preview of Ubuntu 22.10 but I don't know about Armbian.
  8. Thanks a lot Igor. I've read elsewhere: So if anyone of you has feedback on NVMe SSDs that work well with the Rock5, please let me know. And if I understand correctly from your message Igor and from this post, I will have (for the time being) to boot on something else (like a USB key) and then use the NVMe.
  9. Should I get a USB key to get it started with Armbian, or get an NVMe SSD?
  10. I'm afraid the official documentation for Armbian is there: https://docs.armbian.com/User-Guide_Advanced-Features/#how-to-run-docker
  11. Pine64 announced today that they would sell some from June on.
  12. Nope, I do like Debian, but the laptop I got is very specific (Asus) and it looks like the only supported distros are Arch based. Thanks a lot @hexdumpfor this detailed workaround. I could go the arm laptop/chromebook route, of course. Most of my use will be web surfing and using my x86 Linux laptop through vnc, so I don't need a powerful laptop. I tried to buy the PineBook Pro a long time ago, at the very worst moment (just when it disappeared from the store in fact). It never came back.
  13. I got the laptop yesterday, and it's way too specific to install Armbian on it (Asus). So I'll go with Manjaro on this one. But... I think I will have to buy a laptop for home in the coming months, so if I don't go the arm way (Lenovo ThinkPad anyone?), I would love to have my daily driver laptop running Armbian.
  14. Got it. So I could totally install another distro with Grub, and then switch to Armbian. 🤔 interesting.
  15. Ok, thanks. That won't work for me as I have to keep Windows working, and it's a laptop with no more room for any other disk. But if I can afford another laptop, I will run only Armbian on it.
  16. Hi there, I have too many SBCs running Armbian with very recent kernels (even two Raspberry Pi 3B), and I love the consistency of my herd. I will change job next month, and I will at last be able to have a Linux machine as my daily driver... The thing is, I will need Windows too for video editing so that I need to keep it available when needed. I was thinking of Manjaro or Linux Mint for the freshness of their kernels (as the laptop hardware is pretty recent), but I gave a try yesterday at Armbian on x86_64, and it went almost well. I did not go as well as @NicoD's attempt in his latest video, but it is encouraging anyhow. So... Is there anything like "write to NAND" for X86? How could one have a multiboot with Armbian? Thanks.
  17. What about hardware encoding with mainline? Is it possible now?
  18. I do love the XU4, but it only sports 2GB of RAM.
  19. Today, I discovered the Compulab Utilite Pro which is up to 4GB ram, but only Cortex A9 and no real sturdy storage solution. I also found the AM5718 SBC which seems to have almost everything on the paper (Texas Instruments Sitara AM5728 dual-core ARM Cortex-A15, 1.5GHz NEON SIMD and VFPv4mm, Sata, 4GB Ram). Yes, only two cores, bummer! And one can't buy it just like that, there is no store whatsoever. From the same vendor, there is also the SBC-iMX6 with NXP (Freescale) i.MX6 Plus quad-core ARM Cortex-A9, 1GHz NEON SIMD and VFPv3, up to 4GB of RAM and Sata. Yes, only Cortex-A9, and no way to easily buy it either. But that's a good candidate anyway (until I get the real price I suppose).
