Wow thanks thats a leap forward in using armbian on the M8S Pro L S912 LB, as it quits with the same error.

Thanks for your explanation and help. Could you also point out, on how to dump and reflash uboot env with root terminal,twrp or fastboot

as far as i checked against /dev/block/env it is the same enviroment as in your u-boot

The solution:

I didn't want to go down the uart/uboot route as I don't know where the tx/rx points are on this box and my eyesight isn't that great anymore. Plus my soldering days were over many years ago. I was able to boot into a twrp.zip via stock recovery, but there was no setenv command in the twrp console to enter the info manually. Perhaps there is a command I could enter to run the aml_autoscript from here, I have no idea. I decided the way forward was to extract the env partition with twrp (you can just as easily do it with dd or fastboot) and hack it before flashing it back. I opened the file up with a hex editor and could see what looked like a uboot environment with fatload commands etc, a 4 byte header at the start of the file then each command separated by a null byte. I'm looking at yet another brick if I bork it, so I'm not doing this with a hex editor. Convert it to a text file, make the changes and convert the text file back to the original 8mb image format was the plan. All I had to do was trim the trailing zeros and replace the remaining null bytes with a newline. I copied the file to my PC to do the job but it can all be done from a rooted box with busybox installed.

I've been using Armbian  on my x96 air for about a month, without any issue.

But yesterday I upgraded the system, there was a kernel update if I'm not mistaken. And since then my 5G wifi doesn't work. Also this morning my system freezed, completely, which never had happened before.

What can  I do? Maybe can I restore the previous kernel somehow?

Just came across this site, and I am interested in testing Ubuntu Bionic version for s905x3 air.
From what I read, it should be at least Armbian_20.05.0_Arm-64_bionic_current_5.6.0-rc6_desktop_20200326.img but cannot find it on this site...

Can someone points me towards the latest img link please?

I've spent hours today playing with dtb parameters and whatnot.

So far nothing.

Yes, Android dtb and dtb in this image are different. But I can not just copy-paste it. It is all related and pretty difficult to understand.

All I have is dmesg saying that SD card appeared, it is detected. Even partitions are detected and then it dissapears. But why it dissapears?

EDIT:

The same card/image/kernel that gives endless -84 errors boots just fine in another device.

I just changed dtb to match hardware and started it up in Nexbox A95X (s905x/2GB/8GB). No errors, starts just fine.

In A95X F3 Air (S905x3/4GB/32GB) still no luck.

I have no time to do more research at the moment. Maybe I'll try again next weekend.

Hello,

Have you manged to get Micro SD card work? I am having same problem with repeated error

mmc1 error -84 whilst initialising sd card

My box is X96 Air P3 - 4G RAM, 32G ROM

My MicroSD card is SamsungEVO plus U1 32G. Detail:

I've tried all the suggestions in this topic but still can't get the colors fixed on boot.

Using the image from the other topic 'Single Armbian image for RK + AML + AW',

writing to a micro sd card,

edit the uEnv.txt to use meson-sm1-sei610.dtb

and all boots fine except for the messed up colors.

When the u-boot.sd is renamed to u-boot.ext, then the box won't boot at all. This is suggested at the start of this topic, but it's then said it doesn't work.

Then there is a suggestion of downloading the latest fix, or applying an update consisting of three files.

Not sure where these files are, or where the latest patch is, the only link mentioned at the start of this topic is now dead, but was able to download earlier.

File was called 'boot.S905X3.7z' and contains

boot.ini, s905_autoscript and u-boot.ext, but using these files also results in no boot.

I noticed these files refer to the older uEnv.ini, and so are incompatible with the new uEnv.txt used in the 'Single Armbian Image' mentioned above.

If I do need to use a specific image instead for the s905x3, then where can I find it?

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get the colors fixed for the 'Single Armbian Image' in the other topic?

In case anyone is interested it's the Magicsee N5 Plus 4gb with internal SATA.

If you have the same box and need help let me know, I've set up wifi, hard drive install, ethernet, vnc etc..

Try copying u-boot.sd to u-boot.ext instead of renaming. That worked for me (latest  'Single Armbian image for RK + AML + AW' + dtb entry in uEnv.txt).

This does not work for me, and I think some others as well, as mentioned at the start of this topic.

I have the same box as in the thread you linked to (but turns out with another wifi chip, so no wifi for me). In his next post he says its working for him.

Just try this one more time;

Download & write the latest universal image (bionic must work, haven't tried the others). Edit the dtb in uEnv.txt. Copy u-boot.sd to u-boot.ext. Start your box to the android recovery menu (toothpick or whatever your box uses for that). Select Update from external media so it installs aml_autoscript.zip that updates your u-boot. Reboot.

This worked for me and others, but your box is different than mine. For the color fix the u-boot needs to be upgraded, if somehow your u-boot doesn't change than you would be stuck with the color problem (for now?).

I bought H96 Max X3 box and have happy hour with DTB/Mesa/Panfrost cooking but stay on llvm renderer.  At last two week people already run Panfrost on S905X3 (odroid-c4 board).

Someone here get Mali-G31 (in S905X3) work with acceleration?

Who here with similar box as H96 Max X3 (with S905X3), can you share your DTS/DTB files and few words about what is working and how your filing?

Maybe some tall me how properly check panfrost kernel module is working or only loaded?

My results after compare DTB from VIM3L / Odroid-C4 / H96 Max X3 Android 9 / and presented here by @ramoncio:

BT now is working, for get this - put to folder "/lib/firmware/brcm" file bcm4335c0.hcd from:

https://github.com/kszaq/brcmfmac_sdio-firmware-aml/blob/master/firmware/brcm/bcm4335c0.hcd

with name "BCM4335C0.hcd" and reboot.

IR works and gat messages from remote.

System LED working and ready to configure.

VFD need proper configuration on bus@40 but that is real.

Don't get working yet 3D acceleration in X11 but dmesg tell me about proper loading wifi, eth, bt, vpu, gpu and fb.

Thanks Rapsacw,

Didn't know about this, I thought that copying the u-boot.sd to u-boot.ext abd booting was enough.

Although now the problem is the same as

With the error

E:mmap(0, R, PRIVATE, 6, 0) failed: Invalid argument

E:Map of 'udisk/aml_autoscript.zip' failed

E:failed to map file Installation aborted

And I can't follow 5p0ng3b0b's fix unfortunately, perhaps their solution was before the image was Windows compatable?

Any further help would be very appreciated :)

Hi @root-stas.. thanks for sharing your files. I've 'stolen' your h96 max x3 dtb and Ethernet works now at 1Gbps!!!!

(do you mind if I share your file in the H96 Max X3 post I created?)

Also sound seems to be 'closer to work'.. byt I get this on dmesg now:

[16.926150]  fe.dai-link-0: ASoC: no backend DAIs enabled for fe.dai-link-0

does sound work to you??

Bluetooth continues to 'apparently be on' but not really working:

Hi!

x96-max.dtb - eth and no sound

sm1-sei610 - no eth and sound (I fix the eth in dtb, but now in conflict with sound).

The conflict is: On the sound detection says that GPIOZ_2 is already used by eth. Find GPIOZ_2 and found:

pinctrl-meson-g12a.c:static const unsigned int eth_rgmii_rx_clk_pins[]    = { GPIOZ_2 };

pinctrl-meson-g12a.c:static const unsigned int tdm_c_din0_z_pins[]        = { GPIOZ_2 };

Both variables (eth_rgmii_rx_clk_pins and tdm_c_din0_z_pins) pins and  are used in DTB.

Does anyone help me how to solve?

Edit: Solved removing two references from audio-controller -> pinctrl-0 that was in conflict with ethernet.

@dgm78: Could you please elaborate a little further? Did you edit the dts line? From what to what?

Thank you!!

You can try burning the image to a usb stick and run the update from there, or install the update while in android? Or best yet, ask someone who had the same problem for a solution?

If you want use my DTB - better now is test8 version. For share - mention me in description (link to GDrive, DTB in WIP state and changing if I get success with VFD (front screen) or GPU, people need know about that).

I tests different HDMI display and sound stop working on one of them, looks like magic in kernel :blink:

In DTB aux sound driver is completely different them in stock android DTB, maybe that is problem.

That is happened when display don't properly connected at loading kernel time, in test8 DTB that is gone, kernel try solve wrong DTB records! :rolleyes:

In brcm folder you have 4339-sdio.txt file, make symlink with name - brcmfmac4339-sdio.khadas,vim3l.txt , that is for wifi, but bt maybe need that too.

I've used your test8 dtb and compared my dmesg with yours and I have found where the hdmi problem happens:

The mesage:

  20.005163]  fe.dai-link-0: ASoC: no backend DAIs enabled for fe.dai-link-0

continues to be there with test8 file. I suppose the issue is related to the HDMI. :(

Any clue?????

The mesage:

  20.005163]  fe.dai-link-0: ASoC: no backend DAIs enabled for fe.dai-link-0

continues to be there with test8 file. I suppose the issue is related to the HDMI. :(

Any clue?????

Actually.. when 'decompiling' your test8 dtb to dts I get the following warning:

albert@asl-h96:~/dtbs$ dtc -I dtb -O dts -o test8.dts /boot/dtb/h96max-x3-test8.dtb

test8.dts: Warning (unit_address_vs_reg): /soc/bus@ff600000/bus@34400/pinctrl@40: node has a unit name, but no reg property

test8.dts: Warning (unit_address_vs_reg): /soc/bus@ff800000/sys-ctrl@0/pinctrl@14: node has a unit name, but no reg property

test8.dts: Warning (unit_address_format): /soc/bus@ff800000/rtc@0a8: unit name should not have leading 0s

test8.dts: Warning (power_domains_property): /soc/vpu@ff900000: Missing property '#power-domain-cells' in node /soc/bus@ff600000/bus@34400/pinctrl@40/bank@40 or bad phandle (referred from power-domains[0])

test8.dts: Warning (gpios_property): /meson-vfd: Missing property '#gpio-cells' in node /emmc-pwrseq or bad phandle (referred from gpios[4])

What is this #power-domain-cells property? seems to be the key.

Yet, the vpu@ff9900000 reads exactly as in the meson-610:

vpu@ff900000 {

reg = < 0x00 0xff900000 0x00 0x100000 0x00 0xff63c000 0x00 0x1000 >;

Get DTB file from recovery.PARTITION file.

Here is a second take a getting DTB file as extracting via /sys/firmware/devicetree/base using dtc didn't appear to work :(.

This time get DTB from recovery.PARTITION file using termux. Firstly on a PC, download and unzip stock tvbox image.

Then unpack firmware.img file with amlogic unpacker. Now transfer the recovery.PARTITION file to termux home folder.

The DTB file is embedded in this file so now just extract it. I already installed git, python, perl and wget etc to termux.

  Hide contents

#Install binwalk
git clone https://github.com/ReFirmLabs/binwalk.git
cd binwalk
python setup.py install
cd ..; rm -Rf binwalk
#Get split_bootimg.pl script
wget https://gist.githubusercontent.com/jberkel/1087743/raw/45046f87176dfacdc22af4290f89a0d2e0df1dbb/split_bootimg.pl
chmod +x split_bootimg.pl
#Split recovery.PARTITION
./split_bootimg.pl recovery.PARTITION
#Unpack recovery.PARTITION-second.gz
gunzip recovery.PARTITION-second.gz
#Get offset of embedded DTB in recovery.PARTITION-second
DTBOFFSET=$(binwalk -R "\xD0\x0D\xFE\xED" recovery.PARTITION-second | awk 'NR > 3 { print $1}' | head -n 1)
#Get length of DTB in recovery.PARTITION-second
DTBLEN=$((16#$(dd if=recovery.PARTITION-second bs=1 skip=$(($DTBOFFSET + 4)) count=4 status=none | od -tx1 | head -n 1 | cut -d ' ' -f 2- | sed 's/ //g' )))
#Now extract and create dtb file
dd if=recovery.PARTITION-second of=mybox.dtb bs=1 skip=$DTBOFFSET count=$DTBLEN

 The resulting file was 76,302 bytes in my case from a magicsee N5 plus box. I still can't test yet because I haven't got it to boot from external storage but can confirm the dtc command worked on it.

dtc -I dtb -O dts -o mybox.dts mybox.dtb

Update:

This also worked from a recovery image file created by dd if=/dev/block/recovery of=recovery.PARTITION so this can be done completely from rooted device and without access to stock firmware. Produced an identicle DTB.

Bonjour.

Have you encountered this problem?

$ gunzip recovery.PARTITION-second.gz
$ gzip: recovery.PARTITION-second.gz: not in gzip format

I searched on Google but did not find an adequate solution.
Thanks for your help

If the box is rooted, install X-plore on the box and copy  “root/dev/dtb.img” or “root/dev/dtb" anywhere you want.

And use dtc to convert that file to dts.

@Albert Barcelona try new one h96max-x2-test-bus80-gpu-volt.dtb:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1BU_k61jUr1ivvDHCXvnfJOc-BHpNq3Dx

I'm fix vpu wrong link to gpio, proper link is power domain as kernel tell.

And add power records in gpu section to fix error from panfrost, but X11 don't get 3D yet.

I have sound over hdmi, cant test AV and SPDIF, someone can test here?

@root-stas:

 Thanks for sharing! Seems you really know about this!

Unfortuntely HDMI audio continues not to work.

Apparently no changes for me on behaviour from test8 file.

Here's my last dmesg (with the new h96max-x2-test-bus80-gpu-volt.dtb)

https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/KYNQPPvwMn/

And here the audio devices list:

I'm on 5.7.0-rc4 kernel Focal Desktop and you on older one, @Albert Barcelona try change that (boot from usb latest @balbes150 images).

On my TV and PC monitor now sound work.

Or hdmi on your and my box connected to different SoC legs...

My aplay -l output is same.

Ok, thanks!. Will try now.. I'll post results in the other thread. I believe it is better to keep the discussion in the H96 Max X3 thread.

I have an X99 Max Plus box. The dtb is extracted from the original android 9.
The dtb's original name is sm1_ac213_4g.dtb, but it has some different content in it than the others.
Unfortunately the latest ubuntu, Armbian_20.05.4_Arm-64_focal_current_5.7.0-rc5, don't want to boot with it.
Could somebody  help me? I will attached the dtb, if somebody needed(as soon as I figure out how to do that in this forum).

Use khadas-vim3l or sei610 dtb files as starting point, check wat is don't working on them and google here how to fix that in dtb file.

X88 Pro X3 / X99 Max Plus / Transpeed X3 Plus TV Box has same board, try find solution for them and use yourself.

In your box WiFi/BT is SP6255 - clone of AP6255. Try that driver BCM43455C0 for wifi.
