Good news. :)

Build the first version of Armbian for TV box x96 max (S905X2).

While not working, sound via HDMI, WiFi. Test images on the site in the catalog S905X2.

Hello I received my new x96 Max tv box yesterday

It runs android 9

When I update with am...zip for enable bootting from sdcard( correct?) the update process after reboot says "error verifying...." "footer error...."

The file arm****.zip is in the sdcard and the update procesa can read (update from EXT in the menu can retry with same error)

What I'm doing wrong?

more info: the x96 Max that I have is a 4G Memory /32G disk model.... it has a u311 (¿board model?) instead of u211 i read about in other threads (or in this thread)

Thanks in avance

Ricardo

Pd:I tryed with a lot of versions of armbian until 5.91 with same result

Hard to say with only that message. Do you have the correct kernel headers installed? It may be that your kernel does not support that kind of driver, but I'm not that familiar with drivers to say for sure.

Hi,

I have a question and a bug.

Bug:

My box freezes from time to time (inresponsive in shell and ssh) and I have to pull the cord and plug it back in. Looking at the kern.log seems to be related to the network card

Question: How can I upgrade between images versions without having to reinstall all the software that I have installed?

Posted

Hi all,

first of all I would like to thank anyone is contributing, I had an in depth look on this thread and I was able to bring to life my mecool KM9 device.

Hereunder a short summary that will save some headache for mates ;)

  1. My box came with Android 9 and there were no possibilities to enable multi-boot, in order to start playing with it I decided to roll back Android to 8.1; after this step I was just able to boot from external devices, even if it looks that I can't access the box while running on android, probably due to miss behaving BT interface (hanged on remote pairing)
  2. Flashed the image from Balbe150 repo (Linux aml 5.2.1-aml-g12 #5.91 SMP PREEMPT Fri Aug 2 15:24:33 MSK 2019 aarch64 GNU/Linux). Using the dtb file meson-g12a-sei510.dtb I was able to start working on my KM9 having a working ethernet interface.

Currently I'm looking on how to enable BT and WiFi interface, that looks based on AP6255 IC.

Is there someone that is working on this topic too ?

@balbes150

Thanks for all your work, the images you provide dont have headers (or yes?)

I see in the forum some people cant enable wifi or bluetooth in his box, a posible solution is compile our own drivers, but without headers its not posible.

If I build my self ubuntu, What is more simple?

1.- compile ubuntu-armbian with headers

2.- compile only armbian drivers

3.- compile ubuntu-armbian with drivers I need

I need the drivers for WiFi USB dongle (Tp-Link), I have the sources but cant compile without headers.

Thanks a lot for your advices

Hi and thanks for Your work.

Please which images without desktop have working wifi? I have A95x with S905 2/16GB (really not S905X) and with meson-gxbb-nexbox-a95x.dtb is working. But modprobe dhd, wifi_dummy etc almost says not found in the directory. Identification from android is BCM4335. I have copied DTB.img from android, but it is not working with Armbian Disco. Please is any way how to enable wifi?

Thank You

Have a look at this post.

It may be the firmware between android and Linux (/lib/firmware/brcm) is different and android may work better. You'll have to do some work in android working out which one is in use and which files (usually at least 2 files) and if they differ.

Don't mix DTB's between distros (Android to Linux or Linux to Linux with a bit less caution).

Those driver are from Legacy ...

Mainline is using "brcmfmac", and no needs for "modprobe", it is the DT that will load it if DTB is properly done.

Check "dmesg | grep -i mmc", then "dmesg | grep -i sdio" and finally "dmesg | grep -i brcm" and report back those logs ...

Maybe there is no BRCM at all in the DTB that you currently using ...

Since you got an SDIO in log, maybe it is some other kind of WiFi that is present.

First of all, great job @balbes150

Device: S905D 1GB RAM AP6255 WIFI + DVB T/S

I built with your tools and kernels an image with kernel 3.14, and kernel 5.2. Excellent work mate.

Mali GPU was not detected but now, using https://github.com/superna9999/meson_gx_mali_450/tree/DX910-SW-99002-r9p0-01rel0_meson_gx is ok

I've found https://github.com/Elyotna/linux/tree/5.2/v4l2-m2m-pr who is doing a great job developing v4l2 driver.

Using lsmod, I can see v4l2_m2m, meson_vdec... but when I use mpv to play any video is using CPU until 100%.

I've read a lot information about video decoding in Amlogic SoC on Linux, but seeing Maxime on https://embedded-recipes.org/2018/talk/upstream-multimedia-on-amlogic-socs-from-fiction-to-reality/ , I think it is possible hw acceleration, right?

Should I change kernel config? Do I forget anything? Any advice?

Thank you in advance.

Maybe there is no BRCM at all in the DTB that you currently using ...

Since you got an SDIO in log, maybe it is some other kind of WiFi that is present.

Inside on chip is "KM3213098 XJ-A", in android is build number "NEXBOX-A95X-BCM4335-201607151134" and here is extracted dts from android, but I dont know how to convert it for armbian.

devicetree.dts

Me neither since I don't own such box.

In the Android DTS you've provided, I can see "wifi_power" node, maybe this is missing in the Linux one ...

Feedback - VIM3
HDMI problems with Armbian_5.94_Aml-g12_Debian_buster_default_5.2.1_20190821.img as the screen is white and blurry...

Armbian_5.94_Aml-g12_Debian_buster_dev_5.3.0-rc5_20190823.img on the other hand is working good so far. The only issue I've encountered is the amount of RAM available, which is 3354MB - far from ≈3700MB which is normal for 4GB RAM.

VIM3_Ubuntu-server-bionic_Linux-4.9_arm64_EMMC_V20190813 is showing a little more with 3451MB of available RAM, but it's still much lower than it should be (≈3700MB). What's your take on this @balbes150? I can see from Khadas uboot (Github) that there have been some RAM allocation commits for uboot, but it seems that it only increases available RAM with around 128 MB.

Update 1:
I had no luck with LibreELEC regarding increasing RAM, but installing CoreELEC and upgrading bootloader fixed this as I now have 3696MB of available RAM :)

Update 2:
Obviously install to eMMC is not working with CE's custom bootloader, so installing VIM3_Ubuntu-server-bionic_Linux-4.9_arm64_EMMC_V20190813 to eMMC, Armbian_5.94_Aml-g12_Debian_buster_dev_5.3.0-rc5_20190823.img to mSD and running install to eMMC still gives 3354MB of available RAM... So using Armbian instead of VIM3_Ubuntu* decreases RAM even further - almost 350MB less than with CoreELEC's bootloader.

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum.

I'm trying to boot this armbian ver 5.76 in a MXQ Pro 4k (S905W 1G variant. wifi chip is SV6051P).

Mine board has a little problem, it lacks emmc because the old owner of the board desoldered it ( don't know why).

Anyway, I burned an sdcard, I put the right dtb into the config and tried to boot. Uboot starts and tries to boot the kernel, but after a bit the kernel panics and the image won't boot. I tried to change dtb's but the kernel still panics.

I uploaded the bootlog.

Any suggestion?

Thankyou !

The new version Armbiam 20190825 kernel 5.3.0. In this version the temperature display on G12 works.

For reasons not yet clear, the G12 has a conflict with this kernel with PULSEAUDIO. To turn the sound on models with G12 (s905x2 S922x a311d) you need to perform these steps.

1. Remove package "pulseaudio".

2. Reboot the system.

3. Once run the command "sudo /root/g12_sound.sh".

When you remove the pulseaudio package, not volume control.

Alternatively, you can install the "pnmixer" package that works with ALSA.

Khadas VIM3 and Ugoos AM6

Full-screen 1080p video playback from Youtube (Chromium) to works at a temperature no higher than 55 (without a fan). :)

Pay attention. The multi-boot scripts have been updated, I recommend to re-activate the multi-boot using the new scripts. In the scripts added ability to run Android without removing the external media Armbian. To do this in the first section of the external media (/boot) to create an empty file boot_android. If you have this file, each time you restart, either the external system or Android from eMMC will start in turn. To disable this mode, you need to delete the file boot_android external media.

Coreelec uses an outdated system startup and kernel ( with serious problems in security), it is not compatible with Armbian and Libreelec.

The new kernel reserves memory for video.

According to the log, the kernel panic is caused by the absence of eMMC. You can try to change the DTB and remove the partition from eMMC (infu how to do this look in this and neighboring topics).

So the new kernel reserves almost 350 MB of RAM for video? Which means the latest patches for Khadas VIM3 u-boot (which is not present in theirs latest Android og Ubuntu builds) won't increase the amount available RAM if I start over by burning Android/Ubuntu to eMMC with latest u-boot and then install latest version of Armbian (Armbian_5.94_Aml-g12_Debian_buster_dev_5.3.0-rc5_20190825) to eMMC again?

I checked the image on my VIM3, everything works correctly, there is no problem with the color or clarity of the text.

If you run coreelec, for proper operation of other systems after it, you need to full erase the eMMC and restore the standard firmware.

I've attached a picture so you can see the issue I faced when I tested Armbian_5.94_Aml-g12_Debian_buster_default_5.2.1_20190821.img.

I did a full erase of eMMC and burned latest Ubuntu (VIM3_Ubuntu-server-bionic_Linux-4.9_arm64_EMMC_V20190813) with USB Upgrade Tool before installing Armbian to eMMC the last time. How much RAM do you have with VIM3 with the build you are using?

When using Khadas Ubuntu in eMMC (using Ubuntu's option to write to eMMC via USB Burn Tool) is a bad option for General use with external systems (which run from SD card and USB flash drive). All versions of Khadas Ubuntu to write to eMMC, have an error in u-boot, which does not properly run external systems. If you want to run Armbian with external media, the eMMC should be strictly firmware with regular Android. I have explained this problem many times on the Khadas forum.
