You already have best possible desktop on this hardware. Simple and fast XFCE. Changing desktop environment won't make any vivid difference.

XUbuntu is more or less identical to Armbian Ubuntu with XFCE subtracted for some Canonical proprietary stuff.

LXDE vs. XFCE ... not worth the troubles maintaining yet another desktop. Difference is too small. We only keep XFCE, Gnome, Cinnamon and KDE Neon in good shape. The rest waits for enthusiast https://github.com/armbian/build/tree/main/config/desktop and you can always start with a minimal CLI image and build on top any desktop you want.

I need help with my Mx9. I followed the installation steps correctly, but no matter what image I flash on the eMMC, it refuses to boot Armbian. When I start the Box, a yellow light starts flashing after 10-12 seconds, but nothing appears on the screen even if I leave it on for longer. It also won't boot if I flash an Armbian image onto an SD card and try to boot from there. Here are some pictures of the board:

@hmmm the board boots properly if the leds are blinking, but you need to run rk322x-config via SSH and select the proper led-config for R29 boards: these boards are known to turn off HDMI unless a specific GPIO is switched on.

Hi guys.

 

I have a problem with the rk3229 and rtl8189ETV hardware bundle. I am installing Armbian_community_25.2.0-trunk.160_Rk322x-box_noble_current_6.6.65_xfce_desktop.img.xz

1. Wi-Fi problem. rc322x-config detects rtl8189ETV but it does not start. I can't set up a Wi-Fi connection because this equipment is not in the list

2. The end0? network interface is constantly in the list of equipment, although I do not physically have this equipment and I use a USB HUB with an Ethernet port to connect to the network, which is defined in the system as enxdXXX

I will be very grateful for your help

@zzc @galenzhao @Obmor tvboxes have a huge amount of wireless chip on board and supporting all of them is very difficult and time consuming taks which I can't afford anymore; the APxxxx series is usually supported because they are basically broadcom chips and the driver is there, but their functionality also depends upon the board wiring, the firmware, the nvram, etc... as you see there are several pieces in the puzzle and it is not easy to fit them without some effort.

 

The best advice I could give you if you need basic wireless connectivity, is to buy a mediatek-based (mt7601) USB dongle; the next best advice is to buy SBCs with standard or premium support (not CSC) by armbian

following what @jock already said let me add this:
we are speaking of tvboxes of value ranging from 10 dollars to 15 in worst case and it is a little miracle  all the pieces of the puzzle are fitting to get the whole picture.

And china producer are building new and new and new boards every week, different from the previous in one bit in dtb perhaps and not working as espected 
Maintain and develop all is simply impossible mainly for lack of time ( this is done for pleasure not for work... ) but also for lacking of hardware ( how can we test functionality if we don't own PHISICALLY the board ???  )

So in case is fundamental achieve new functionality, feel free to donate boards to me or @jock for further investigations

Thanks for the answer! Your help to the community is invaluable, I understand that. I am an aspiring enthusiast and would like to study arm architecture more thoroughly. I'm pretty good at Linux, but at the application programming level. I would just like to get some advice on how to proceed in my case. Should I pay attention to the dtb file that I pulled out of the old Android 8 firmware of my device. And replace the dtb file in Armbian with it.

I doubt dtb will work out of box but surely is a good starting point

rlt ( realtek ) usually have a good support, you can try to see if, once you have the headers of your kernel, you can compile it by yourself

Hi guys!

I have this board which is running  rk3229 but i can't get it to boot up
The board is still alive, can still boot into maskrom mode
I did flashed the u-boot from this but it refuse to boot from USB ( both armbian nor multiboot )

@Asriel Nguyen The board looks very not RK3228 like but your lsusb is saying it one in maskrom mode so shall being one but no initial booltloader in the eMMC = shall booting Multitool / Armbian OK from SD-Card (but not direct from USB sticks).

Only PM is if the card reader is on the standard address or being on other then its not working.

 

Do you have some high res picture of top and bottom of the PCB then cant see the small components and printing ?

Here is such a device. Compact, 2 USB OTG + Wi-Fi. I use it for home automation, in conjunction with a USB GPIO adapter. I connect to the network via USB Ethernet, but I really want a WLAN. I checked its operation with LibreELEC 12. WiFi is working. I copied the rk322x-box.dtb file to Armbian. It didn't help.

Can you help me find the UART interface on the board? I can't see it, and the radiator is glued shut.

Kernel version of both 

Lsmod on both and check differences 

Only after you can try swap dtb

I dug out the dtb file from the native Android 8 firmware. And this is what caught my eye:

but since some conflicts with 8723as/bs/cs  chip it is blacklisted
is strange because armbian-config should solve the question and give you wifi
try again with armbian-config and select ssv6051 or dig into modules blacklist and comment out ssv6051 ko

Hello! No, it has no sense to modprobe the module because the kernel should autodetect the chip and load the module automatically.

The module is not loaded automatically because the chip is turned off and the kernel could not autodetect it.

 

Try to put this file: rk322x-led-conf9.dtbo
in /boot/dtb/overlay directory, then append led-conf9 to overlays line in /boot/armbianEnv.txt and see from dmesg if your wifi device gets detected.

Send the dmesg log anyway, it is the first step to understand what is wrong.

Sorry for the disjointed response, I don't really know how to use this type of "chat"

I found the patches in the build repository but I'm having some problems.
 

I don't know if I should do it this way but to compile the kernel I just copied the configuration file and compiled it with armbiam/linux-rockchip

I haven't tested it yet but no configuration errors

but I'm having trouble configuring u-boot, I'm trying to apply the patches for rk322x-box listed in "u-boot/2024.07", I don't know if I should apply other patches besides these, I don't know if I'm applying them in the correct versions, nothing I tried worked (I tried applying them in u-boot master, version 2024.07- rc5 and the latest rockchip release) Could you help me understand how this build system works? Does it leave a cache of already applied patches that I could use?

I don't have a separate ssv6051 overlay in armbian-config. He's not on the blacklist either.

@Obmor I see several issues within dmesg, but nothing about the wifi chip.

First, you should remove rk322x-wlan-alt-wiring from the overlays, which seems not suitable for your board.

 

With the current configuration of overlays, the SDIO chip (ie: the wifi chip) on mmc1 is detected, but no drivers are loaded as long as I see; are you sure you have an ssv6051?

If you run rk322x-config, you should have a line Wifi device: .... Device ID: .... if your board really has a ssv6051, you should get 3030:3030 as device ID

You're right. The chip is identified as RTL8189ES/ETV, I was misled by the description from the Android dtb
