eMMC device not Detected by armbian on nanoPi duo core

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am trying to apply the following configuration to my nanoPi Duo Core:

* Boot from eMMC

* System on SATA/USB (disk)

When i try to find the eMMC device using the command "fdisk", I can only see the SD card and the disk that I added.

My NanoPi duo core contains the eMMC memory but I am unable to find it.

In addition to that, If I try to execute the script "nand-sata-install", only one option is available boot from SD, system on SATA / USB.

The other two options : "boot from eMMC / NAND, system on eMMC/NAND" and "

boot from eMMC / NAND, system on SATA / USB" are not mentionned.

Can someone help me with this issue?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Antony

Hi Antony,

I didnt know any model like your "nanoPi Duo core with eMMC"

I know the

- NanoPi Neo2 Core with eMMC

or

- NanoPi Duo with Mini Shield - where you could put a Halfsize mSATA SSD

The eMMC on the NanoPi Neo2 Core is bootable and the halfsize mSATA-SSD on the NanoPi Duo with Mini-Shield isnt bootable
(as I know)

Did you try to install to NAND/eMMC via armbian-config (system) - or didnt you use armbian?

NanoPi Duo with MiniShield:

This means you have the wrong image (without eMMC support) for your board. We actually don't know which board you have ... make a picture of it, both sides to make sure.

Thanks for your replies.

I am using nanoPi Neo Core with mini shield nanoPi NEO CORE/CORE2. You can find it attached to this message.

As u can see, there is the eMMC memory on the board.

I am using armbian stretch with the nanoPi NEO CORE.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Antony

That is something different. We might have some troubles here. Can you provide a link to the download page. I am not sure which image you are using. If you run the board, type armbianmonitor -u

without eMMC support - because when you are using a image for the Duo, the Duo hasnt an eMMC option. Only mSATA - non-bootable.

But I guess it's better to merge it with Neo (now eMMC support is enabled by default and this should not affect normal Neo functionality), as I did it now since it also has ethernet while Air doesn't. At least on this shield.

@guidol Check download https://www.armbian.com/nanopi-neo/ ... if nightly images are exposed and named properly?

OK - if eMMC is enabled at the normal Neo image this would be the better selection.... but the I would suggest to move the "Core" description from the NanoPi Neo Air to the NanoPi Neo.

At the normal exposed Neo download-page isnt a nightly image - only xenial and stretch mainline as stable :)

It is enabled since u-boot2018/05, kernel 4.17.y ... and I can't double check atm.

Edit: switched + added text that you need to use nightly images for Core.

What does mean nightly image ? @guidol @Igor

nightly does mean, that (mostly) every night there will be a actual updated image generated - and if you wish you could update daily your system without reinstalling.
It also mean  that this will be a very fresh - and sometimes a image with problems, but the NanoPi Neo Core is also a NEW (around 7 months) device.

So there wil be - at this time - no other stable image which support all the features of this device.

NanPo Neo Core as new in 12/2017:

So the eMMC storage is not supported for now ?

Sorry - my fault , @Igor did wrote

and https://dl.armbian.com/nanopineo/Debian_stretch_next_nightly.7z

is "only" Kernel 4.14

So you have to try

https://dl.armbian.com/nanopineo/nightly/Armbian_5.54.180727_Nanopineo_Debian_stretch_next_4.17.10.7z

(here you could see all nightly images: https://dl.armbian.com/nanopineo/nightly/ )

For bionic/kernel 4.18 we have to wait for the end-release of 4.18 later this year.

So i am using Kernel 4.17 but the eMMC is not supported.

Did you boot via MicroSD-Card and then use

armbian-config

as command.

Inside armbian-config select system and then you should see the option to install to eMMC like on the picture (or why is it not supported? Error-Message?)

It is possible that there are no bits in the device tree ... so we need another patch for the kernel.

Edit:

I can prepare another image later on.

I just tried the image that you mentionned @guidol but I got also the same problem.

eMMC is not support and If I try to execute the script "nand-sata-install", only one option is available : boot from SD, system on SATA / USB.

Any suggestions?

Wait until tomorrows update. Do apt-update & upgrade - make sure new kernel version is installed, reboot and try again.

I have a NanoPi Neo Core with eMMC..I have installed armbian os from "https://www.armbian.com/nanopi-neo/" to sd card and tried the "Armbian configuration utility" and "nand-sata-install" to install os to eMMC. But it is showing "there are no targets..please check your drives."..If we give "fdisk -l" command it is not detecting the eMMC.

How to solve this issue??
