If you have any idea about all errors/warnings (buffer being dropped mainly), please let me know.

Sorry, I can only help you if you use Armbian, I don't have enough knowledge about the other OS's.

@JMCC : I finally managed to get KODI GBM working on my ROCK960C (bionic ARM64) with HDMI CEC and HDMI audio passthrough features... experience is close to LibreELEC one BUT whenever i want to switch to an X11 session from it, i can... that is what i wanted.

Thanks for your help !

Use FriendlyDesktop instead. That has everything installed for playing videos default. Friendlycore is not for desktop use.

18.2 2018-12-19

FriendlyDesktop is updated as follows:

1) Added OV13850 and wide dynamic OV4689 camera support
2) Add Chrome-browser browser, support web page 1080P hardware decoding, support WebGL
3) Added ffmpeg support, provides static libraries and header files, supports 4K hardware decoding (does not support hardware encoding)

Hi,

So at the moment I have Armbian_5.75_Nanopim4_Ubuntu_bionic_default_4.4.174_desktop installed on my NanoPiM4.  and here you can find the logs:

With this setup, Chromium will play up to 1080p, probably some 1440p, but definitely not 4k (2160p).

What is the command line you are using to launch the player? I assume you are using command line and not the desktop launcher, since I see logs.

Have you tried to play that same video with MPV-GBM or Kodi?

yes, mpv seems that is not using hardware accel.  since the video simply goes really slow and consumes a lot of cpu.

In the other hand, kobi plays very, very well... even better than in my pc over VLC.

Probably with Wayland, but I am not aware of anyone who has made that work yet. You have another option: use a Kodi YouTube addon, or use MPV-GBM like this:

sudo apt install youtube-dl
mpv-gbm "http://youtube.com/etc..."

Of course, you only need to install youtube-dl the first time.

Are you sure you are using MPV-GBM, and not the regular MPV? You must right-click on the video file and select "MPV (GBM)", or type "mpv-gbm <filename>" from the command line.

That is not using HW acceleration. You need to use the "Rockchip Gst Player" launcher, or type the same command line used in the "Rockchip Gst Player" desktop launcher (I can't remember it now, just open the .desktop file and copy it).

Hello, I'm testing with a fresh armbian bionic install on rockpi4b  (flashing bionic , then running `sudo apt upgrade`)

During install script I select only 'System', 'Devel', and 'GL4ES'.  Installation succeeds and I reboot. I then try running both `glxinfo` and `glxgears` from mesa-utils.  glxgears reports "libGL error: failed to load driver: rockchip" and falls back to llvmpipe renderer.

Attempting to run LD_LIBRARY_PATH set yields and error":

Is there any chance of an update for this kit? An additional kit for Buster would also be most welcome, if possible.

I'd like to, and I started working on a script that would compile the latest versions of the software for a specific distro. Let's see if I can find some time to finish it.

I was just filming a video about (your) @JMCC's RK3399 Media Script.
I`m using the RockPi4B for it, but chromium GPU acc doesn't seem to be working. The Rockchip video player does work.
Here's the gpu info of chromium

Using Armbian Bionic 5.98 default.
I should have tested it first before filming the video. :)
I'll wait to do it in the M4V2 review video then. I wanted to make the video for RK3399 in general...

It works great on the M4. I woulnd't want to live without it anymore.
Any news on an update for it?

Cheers.

That would be really cool. Seems as with latest buster, it doesn't work all that well now and appears ( at least in chromium ) to be just using CPU and no GPU.    So its back to friendly arm's distro for now. But would rather be using Armbian.  ( which does work fine if you dont need video.  Using it on a 2nd T4  ( + a 1TB M.2 ) i have as a mini server.

You can always use Armbian Bionic default. In my experience it's a lot better than FriendlyDesktop. There Chromium also doesn't seem to work ok while it should be gpu acc. I had to use Firefox for ok video playback.

Maybe it's time to try creating a set with HW acceleration of full screen video playback based on the new kernel 5 ?

All necessary components are already working (tested using LE images with kernel 5 for rk33xx and HW). :)

You can always use Armbian Bionic default. In my experience it's a lot better than FriendlyDesktop. There Chromium also doesn't seem to work ok while it should be gpu acc. I had to use Firefox for ok video playback.

Ill give it a shot, tho its still a version behind.  That FD isn't the best is one reason i was hoping for this to work on the buster release.   Of course these baords are not really 'made' for desktop, use, an RK3399 can be.. ( as proven by my pinebook pro )

Let's see if I get a chance to look at it. Thanks!

HW runs on RK33xx (LIMA and Panfrost) with kernel 5

LIMA and Panfrost for GPU, but what interface does it use for VPU? Does it support full HW acceleration, up to 4k? And encoding?

V4l2 is used for decoding, not all formats are still supported, but some already work. With 4K while there is a problem with green interference. I didn't check the coding. You can check for yourself which formats work in the latest version of LE (it is universal and works on all rk33xx).

I can't wait to see the result. Only in mainline I can use the M4 at 2Ghz. But only in default I can use the media script. I'd love to be able to switch. to mainline And I hope the bugs can be worked out of panfrost so gaming will be good. It performs well, if you ignore the messed up textures.
Now working on the Jetson Nano. It's great to have good drivers for it. But the RK3399 is so much more in every way.
I'll keep a look out for the progress. If it's ready I'll for sure make a video about it. Thanks for all the great work.

I've tested it on m4, and I found it very useful but with a lot of defects:

Kodi won't start, it throw me out of x11, and it can't create a gui after that (which is expected).

The chromium on docker doesn't launch at all.

The mpv (gbm) it's unresponsive on the playback manipulation with keyboard. I  could quit but nothing more than that.

Ok, everything is as expected. Kodi and docker-chromium are experimental features, it is normal that they fail. But the main ones seem to be still working. Let's see when can we integrate them into the main build script.

Wouldn't it be better to integrate it in armbian-config?
Then people can still choose to install it or not. It does break some functionality of some programs. For example Kdenlive doesn't work with the script installed(no video playback).  I'll again try to find a fix for it.  But I've put a lot of time into it in the past and couldn't find a solution.
Do you know how it is possible to make VPU acc work in mainline? With that we'd have a perfect image with panfrost + VPU. I'm looking into it, but my knowledge is very limited about this.

Hi everyone,

I'm using Armbian 19.11.7 Rockpi-4b Ubuntu bionic legacy. Kernel: 4.4.208

While starting plaing files I get errors:

$ mpv-gbm ~/Downloads/jellyfish_250_mbps_4k_uhd_hevc_10bit.mkv

Playing: /home/user/Downloads/jellyfish_250_mbps_4k_uhd_hevc_10bit.mkv

How is it easiest way to switch on HW acceleration plaing files?

Currently RockPi 4b is not supporting media acceleration. It is a kernel issue, we are working on it. Stay tuned...
