balbes150 got a reaction from MisterSBC in Orion O6 (CIX P1)
The alpha version of Armbian images for Orion O6 is available. To launch, burn to a USB flash drive, connect to Orion O6 and turn on the power (installation on NVMe has not yet been verified). The system starts automatically. Important. Image output to the monitor works only in graphical mode (in images with DE). Console output currently only works in UART, so you need a UART console or SSH connection for initial startup.
Launching the desktop and displaying the image on the screen can take 30-80 seconds, depending on the speed of the media.

Tested "Armbian_23.09_Starfive2_lunar_current_6.1.31_xfce_desktop.img.xz" and it works well. Video appears to be a bit better as I can play back a 720p video, though not full 720p size. Sound is still great on HDMI and crackly on the jack.

@balbes150 Tried the above but it didn't work for me. As per your instructions above I:
    - Changed firmware to 3.6.1
    - Burned SD card with "reset-default-env-uboot-visionfive2-3.6.1.img" and booted, then turned device off. Attached file "boot-reset-default.txt" shows this.
    - Burned SD card with "update_uboot-visionfive2-3.6.1.img" and booted, then turned device off. Attached file "boot-update-uboot.txt" shows this
    - Booted again (stopped autoboot by hitting key) and did a "printenv" so you can see if the changes above worked, then turned device off. Attached file "boot-printenv.txt" shows this
    - Burned SD card with "Armbian_23.09_Starfive2_lunar_edge_6.6.0.img.xz" and booted, which failed. Attached file "boot-lunar_edge_6.6.0-failed.txt" shows this

So, had a look at the "printenv" output and found nothing "runs" your new env variables "boot_mmc_new", "boot_emmc_new", or "boot_nvme_new"!

I also noticed that in the failed boot log the message "## Error: "boot2" not defined". So I booted again, stopped autoboot, did a "setenv boot2 run boot_mmc_new", then "env save", booted again and it worked! Attached file "boot-lunar_edge_6.6.0-worked.txt" shows this.

I don't think this is the correct way to "fix" this issue, but it works.

Let me know if I did something wrong.

On the edge version, HDMI does not work in the kernel itself, but HDMI is supported at the level of the selection menu in GRUB, this allows you to have several different versions of the kernel\system (for example, add a self-assembled EDGE kernel with its own configuration) and choose on the monitor screen which kernel\system to run not using the UART console.

@NicoD To run from an SD card, after writing the image, add the boot.ini file to the root dir (exactly to the root dir, not to the subdirectory, i.e. it should be like this /boot.ini)

And so far, the UART log at this launch.

Clone my GIT and build the kernel (you can additionally change the configuration as you wish) - get a DEB package for manual installation\updating of the kernel on any system. The assembly can be done on the rock 5b itself, the assembly time is small.

You are using an old version of the kernel. Use the latest version of the images, there is already the necessary module there.
