    Hi Marc.
S905 works well for the main kernel 4.11\4.12 (and thus the images collected on these branches, in such images as the title indicated 4.11). It has support for USB to S905 and running HDMI and wired network.
They have the opportunity to use MALI.

Because Its only 150MB, so i can download it.
So here my thought after try it on my Mini M8S (S905 with LibreELEC 7.0 in internal MMC) + Samsung 8GB Micro SD Card + Samsung LCD TV 32" LA32D550

    1. No Sound, my Box using AML_M8 Sound card.
    I try using USB Soundcard called 3D Audio ( 0d8c:013c C-Media Electronics, Inc. CM108 Audio Controller ) - price around 2 USD
the USB Soundcard detected on dmesg but still No Sound when i play Wav Audio with Simple Music Player:

    2. No Wireless and Bluetooth, My Box using RTL8723BS

    3. I have One Magenta Vertical line on the left side on my Monitor.

    4. When i turn off, it leave White Blank Monitor.

    5. Bugs - When i leave My Mini M8S Box for Lunch around 30 minute, then when i go back My Monitor goes Blank with "No Signal",
I try to Wake Up my Mini M8S by pressing Key on Keyboard and moving my Mouse, but My Box doesn't Wake Up.

    6. I Have cheap USB 2.0 Hubs with 4 Ports connected, but its not detected.
I have try on both my USB Port, and its still not detected.

What I liked about sdimage-SATO-201705021359, its doesn't have Blank Screen when booting starting from Google TV logo to Desktop.
    ( I don't like the Blank Screen on Armbian_5.27_S9xxx_Ubuntu_xenial_3.14.29_mate_20170323 and  S9xxx_4G_ICEWM_MATE_XFCE_LXDE_LXQT_20170129 )

Yes, this is the right part. To successfully run this image only need three files. It is used packed in the old format a kernel without Initrd. So configured Yocto build environment that would compile a kernel without Initrd. I have not yet figured out how can in this environment to change, is to collect a full set of files.

Pay attention to run this image in the TV console must be activated multiboot with other images Armbian.
That is to use the floss, you can try to rename the script s905_autoscript in aml_autoscript. But I this option is not checked.
The kernel used in this image is the version next-20170502 from git this with my modified config.

Gathered test a system image using the kernel 4.11 and GUI SATO. As the source code use GIT meta-meson (Neil Armstrong). To use the TV box must be already activated multiupload.
    1. Download
    2. Unpack
    3. Burn image on SD card
    4. To add to the recorded media dtb file from the site (with the name "dtb.img").
Pay attention while you can only use two files (for the two platforms), which is on the site next to the image. The dtb files included in the image don't work. Additionally you need to download and copy to the media script s905_autoscript. On the platform s905X not working USB, so you can only manage via SSH or the console UART. On the platform s905 (tested on Vega S95) has one port USB\otg (on the Vega models it's near the SD card), which can connect either the mouse or the keyboard, or you can burn the image to a USB flash drive and use the flash drive as a carrier (when all control is only possible through SSH or the UART conosle). Pay attention after burning the image and running the system will NOT automatically expand the partition to the entire media, it must be done manually on the PC. The root password is missing when you login to terminal from login. Wired network works on both platforms (s905 and s905x). When you start the graphic shell SATO perhaps from its damping, as will be brought down hours, you must reboot (WITHOUT turning off) , or activate the mouse.

To enable BT. You need to perform two steps.

    1. Add to /etc/modules to list the module
    hci_uart
    2. Add to the end of the initialization script (/boot/amlogics905x_init.sh) string

    su -c 'hciattach /dev/ttyS1 any'

After a reboot should turn on BT.
Information taken from this instruction The remaining steps in this manual you do NOT need to, everything you need is already in all desktop images Armbian.

If You are using the image Armbian, need to replace u-boot. Now all images Armbian uses u-boot for S905X (it is not suitable for S905). There is infa, how to replace u-boot. You need to use u-boot to s905.

balbes150 got a reaction from tkaiser in Odroid C2 Temporary run images from USB
Tested on Odroid C2 system startup from the USB stick (via script s905_autoscript, I prefer to run existing images without any modification). If add the script to the boot.ini a few lines, you can run images from a USB drive. This can be useful if there is on eMMC or on a SD card configured with the system and felt the need to run temporarily another system (without overwriting the existing SD\eMMC media). For example, for temporary checks new images, when unknown , to like this system or not, or for testing settings\software-that-be not to destroy the already set up working system. Process start automatically if the connected USB drive and it has a script that starts the system with the USB. When no USB media run regular system with SD\eMMC.

I don't know what principle is download the uses on this Board. So what I say may be incorrect. You can try dual boot. To install the factory system (Android) to SD\eMMC card. Armbian to record to a USB stick. If on the media with regular Android, there is an external control script (similar like in C2 there is the Odroid boot.ini), add a line with the start of the script s905_autoscript (as is done in the multiboot).

It has an output on the monitor. Pay attention that s905x USB not working yet, so the picture is there, but mouse and keyboard do not work, can only be controlled via ssh or UART and the launch is possible only with SD card. When choosing dtb recommend to check all the options files (for your platform). S905 works on USB so you can run a full desktop with mouse and keyboard and USB drives. Details and other images will come later (as long as there is Assembly, testing and loading).

    Image update 20170421.

Added to the library libMali (for fbdev). Please check the Firefox browser with file playback at resolution of 1080p. I have to check we have an odd situation, tried full screen youtube videos , like playable, but only if choose the 720p (screen resolution is set to 1080p). The temperature in armbianmonitor shows about 50 Degrees. I'm not well versed in matters of videoscoralie. I'm not clear whether acceleration is working, whether this effect is from something else. For work acceleration in the video (mpv vlc etc) it is necessary to recompile with support for Mali r5p1-01rel0 . I have not yet figured out how this is done in Ubuntu (something to build the package). I would be very grateful if you could drop links to instructions on how to do it.

    test link

    I found a video which offers a 1080p

    - I have collected some patches for the KVIM, but all of them have been merged into mainline, so no patches regarded to the KVIM.
    - This is the patchset for the C2, mostly related to reliable ethernet operations, USB and cpufreq support.
    - I've started to edit a common kernel config for both the ODROID-C2 and the Khadas VIM

That's all, the rest of the patches are related to freescale/nxp imx6 devices, like the CuBox-i and the Utilite.

I looked at Your kernel sources, but there's a lot of changes to my branch. You can specify which patches imposed on the source ? I want to try to compare the behavior of the kernel (with the patches and without them) when working with the network.

For the trash error in mate you need to install mate-applets package.

Auto mount of usb drives should be working on mate desktop out of the box ( you see the icons it in Desktop, and click - click ).
In CLI though ( no GUI ) there is no auto-mounting.

Update test images  kernel 4.11.0 (20170412). They have added modules for WiFi networks and many other elements. An important feature of primary configuration is possible only through the SSH connection. Network support is based on modules, so it is important when building your kernel to assure that the name of the directory with the modules , the name of the kernel.

    1. If eMMC is missing\faulty\completely erased - in these cases always need u-boot on SD card (run u-boot from a USB drive is possible, but I still know of only one manufacturer, which is implemented Khadas VIM on all the other TV boxes there is only a boot loader for the SD card).
    2. All I know of u-boot in update mode have the option of running the script with the default name aml_autoscript.
    3. Therefore, it is sufficient to write to the SD card standard u-boot and slip him the right script aml_autoscript (using as a basis a ready skriti s905_autoscript for the desired systems.

After recording of the image Armbian scripts aml_autoscript and s805_autoscript used for their own purposes. aml_autoscript is a script activate the multi-boot. S805_autoscript the script is a startup script system from external media.
