    You do your job well.
It is not necessary to know everything, in the modern world only specialization in a narrow direction will allow you to achieve good results. Unfortunately, the number of "narrow specialists" who work on the development of Armbian is scanty and they have a huge load ....

No problem. I've said it's still in beta and it is best to use one of your images to build. I'll link to your download page.
I also show the /lib64/... file that is needed.
Thank you for your amazing efforts and help(and @Werner and @Igor and the others).
I'd love to help out more with coding, but then I'd have no time left for my tasks like making videos.
And I'm no coder anymore, I don't have the overview that I used to have. Brain damage makes me be not so smart  You don't need to be smart to be happy

I planned to create a simple DEB package with these files for easy installation as a dependency of the build environment, but so far there is not enough free time for this (after creating the package, it still needs to be placed in a network repository and check how it will work on different versions of distributions). So for now, I limit myself to "simple dumb copying" and including these files in all my images.

p.s. Unfortunately, those who want to help, at least in such simple operations, are not observed. Everyone wants to get everything for free, beautiful and that everything would work out of the box ....

    1. Probably works, but elsewhere was always a lottery / unsupported.
    2. Try. I didn't.
    3. Once we will support this type of building, we will ship what's needed. Currently this is still formally in development and it doesn't have high priority. Desktop has. We are aware that certain things doesn't work at all.
    4. Desktop and native arm building is still months to go to reach v1.0 / user level. We plan to merge support in 1/2021 but only XFCE setup will be officially supported. Further official support will remain dependent from community involvement. We expanded that tool can handle desktops pretty easy, but maintaining more than 1-3 configurations is not planned / not possible. We are also considering partnership with desktop designers, which could develop this further. Our focus was not to provide good looking desktops with top UX. We actually didn't do anything about that ... we were focused only on a framework which now supports much easier desktop development ...

Building latest trunk Ubuntu userland is related with a great portion of luck and its most likely not related to our build engine. There are no plans nor resources to support Canonical beta userland development. Official Armbian support will be tied to stable / LTS versions as we do it since ever.

The server image does work. And I might have found what the problem is. There's a server not found in apt repos.

I was able to install ubuntu-mate-desktop. Doesn't boot into desktop but can start it with startx.
I think the reason my SBC builds didn't work was because I always tried hirsute desktop. All others worked. So I'm happy to know I now can easily build images with my SBCs.
    Wasn't an ARM problem.
I'll need a new 12V adapter so I can put my N2 next to my router as build server. The P1 stole the N2 its adapter.
I'm glad the troubles been found because I was starting to doubt in myself :) Thank you @balbes150
    Video coming soon.

    Hi all.
@Salvador Liébana has made a preview Armbian image with many emulators preinstalled.
Also Box86 with which you can play x86 Windows games and x86 Linux games.
Also running some Windows programs is possible with this.

    Hi all.
I've just finished a new video where I polish the heatsink of my Rock Pi X with sandpaper. This because there's a rather thick powdercoating on the heatsink in the spot where it makes contact with the SoC.
This caused a lot of thermal resistance. The SoC would get hot and overheat, while the heatsink didn't warm up. And the top of the board was the hottest spot.
    Here my video.

On the NanoPi M4 and M4V2 there was a thermal pad included. This also was pretty bad.
I raplaced those with a copper shim and some thermal paste and improved the thermals by about 10C.

If you like to use your board passively cooled it can be important to look for the details to improve things. This method might also be possible on the Rock Pi 4. I don't have it anymore to test.

If  have a native build, on the one hand, significantly expand the list of possible images with different DE, with different sets of packages, and on the other hand,  no build and  place all possible versions on the site, users can build the desired version of the system with arbitrary sets of DE and packages in them. They can also build their own kernel variants with changing the necessary options in the kernel configuration.

I've also ordered the NVMe hat and a good nvme drive for it.
Time I've got, not a clean build since last night it almost finished but wifi stopped working. But still impressive. My RockPiX can't do this.

This is great! Unfortunately, I'm not having any luck so far.

I built my own image (I know, that's not the standard method, but I assumed it would be the same), and it doesn't have the media-buster-legacy-rk3399 package available. Next I tried downloading the standard M4V2 image (Armbian_20.11.3_Nanopim4v2_buster_legacy_4.4.213_desktop.img.xz), and it gets stuck on bluetooth while booting and get's stuck there.

I'm going to try the neo4 image now. I assume the Armbian_20.11.3_Nanopineo4_buster_legacy_4.4.213.img.xz image is a desktop image?

In any case, I'm very excided about this. I have gone through the process of building a few systems with the script, but would much prefer to have the capability in the standard image without having to go through the extra steps.

Is it possible to e.g. have MPV display directly on the framebuffer, accelerated with another app (OSD) running in another, overlying framebuffer on rk3399?

I need/want to be able to build my own image, so is there some repo I need to add to the standard build, or should that have worked with a normal build? I may have some build option set incorrectly.

Edit: The neo4 is getting stuck on starting bluetooth as well. Is there any way to skip it?

Got past the bluetooth error on startup. It apparently had gotten far enough to allow network logins, so I was able to login, update, and install the multimedia packages, and it's looking good now. I was able to smoothly play a 1080p video that I had lying around with mpv. Time to start playing!

Can you give a hint on how to enable the camera? I don't see any overlays that seem to relate to the camera. Is there another package that I have to install to install additional overlays?

I'm trying to get libmpv to work, and I keep getting the error "EGL_NOT_INITIALIZED". I even get that when I install and run qtcreator. Does that make sense to anyone?

New packages uploaded to the repos (it may take some hours to synchronize).
Bug fixes: X Desktop no longer restarted on package install, so it can be installed from a desktop session (NOTE: Since the old package is still going to restart X when uninstalled, it is recommended to do this update from console). MPV now is not failing when it cannot create EGL surface (it will just default to standard x11). CEC is now working on several boards (tested in RockPro64 and Rockpi 4B). New features: MPV is now RKMPP accelerated, and allows 4K YouTube Playback (see instructions here).

Haha, you know, crap happens. Upstream Buster is a super-stable distro (IMO the best Debian so far). The problem is with the Legacy kernel, it's a bit messy since there are so many different RK3399 boards, from different vendors with different configurations.

Problem was also present in NanoPC-T4. I confirm that building new images fixes the problem here too.

What model do you want to run on ?

You can take these files (need two files\libraries) from your x86 host system, or from any of my images (ArmbianTV\Armbian for M1\P1). Or from my GIT (these libraries are included in all my builds, so that users can easily run the build themselves on any ARM device). by the way, the site has versions of images with these libraries for n2 and t4.

I only now see this post.
Indeed as @TRS-80 said my favorite for desktop tasks is the NanoPi M4V2 with Armbian Bionic legacy and @JMCC his media script. Now also possible in Buster.
For me watching video, mostly Youtube is very important. And I've got a 4k display, so I rather have a higher display resolution than 1080p.
The RK3399 from the NanoPi M4V2 does 1440p without a problem. And it then plays 1080p video perfect with VPU acceleration.

Its I/O is just amazing. 2x fast USB3 controllers for each 2 ports, left and right. (every 1 controller is faster/better than the only 1 controller on N2+)
Has PCIe GPIO's what fits an NVMe hat/SATA hat, USB3 hat.
I've got a 256GB NVMe on it. Doing initial boot from eMMC, and full boot from NVMe. I must say that the RockPi4 has a faster NVMe drive(4x PCIe vs 2x PCIe on M4V2), but I like the metal case from the M4V2 a lot more. And not the bandwith is most important using NVMe, but latency. And that's the same.
Also a big swap file of 8GB on NVMe so I never get out of memory. Works great, but does decrease the lifespan of an NVMe drive. I replace it every year just to be safe and then use the used NVMe as external USB3 device.

I also have an sd-card with a Armbian mainline focal image for playing games on it. I just need to push that sd-card in and reboot to get to my 2nd image.

For a few months google account didn't work on the VPU accelerated Chromium on the RK3399. So then I used Vivaldi browser for watching Youtube. But that could only do 1080p video with 1080p display resolution.
So I switched my M4V2 with the Odroid N2+ for a while. That one is able to play 1080p video at 1440p display resolution. Tho not perfectly as the RK3399. Some dropped frames, some screen tearing.

I do like the extra CPU performance of the N2+. But in desktop tasks I rarely need a lot of CPU power.
All I do is browsing, answering on this forum and on others, watching youtube, writing textfiles, downloading images and writing them to media, record audio, ...

All tasks that do not need much CPU. So RK3399 is more than powerful enough.

If not for the media script from JMCC I'd take the Odroid N2+ before my M4V2. But having VPU driver is so nice that my N2+ is playing 2nd fidel.
Future wise the N2+ might become the better one if GPU and VPU drivers are availabe for it. It can do a lot with its CPU alone.

Only for video editing and rendering I use my PC. And a few games that don't work on my M4V2. But these days even gaming on it is just awesome.

Good choice. Do know that the RockPi4 is a bit fidly to put together with the NVMe hat, and its heatsink is a little less potent.
The NVMe then can go upwards of 1GB/s vs 750MB/s on the M4V2.
    Greetings.

I have a minimum M1 (1 RAM 8 GB eMMC) and it works quite well. I consider it optimal for media playback and as a minimal desktop. Even now, with the main core 5.10, it works with a remote control (which is included), LAN, WiFi, analog sound and HDMI sound (it remains to solve the issue with BT). There is a working version of Buster + media script from @JMCC, it runs KODI and Gst player with 4K.
