NicoD reacted to AxelFoley in sick and tired of my Armbian desktop locking and crashing
I think I have found the issue !!!!!!!
Its the PCIe Express NVMe Card.
I remove it and the desktop seems not to hang .... I add it back in .... and the desktop hangs.
I wonder if this has something to do with power spikes when there is graphics activity the errors in the dmesg indicate that
vpcie1v8 = 5.1v rail Shared with GPU
vpcie0v9 = 3v Rail
Both of these rails hang off the same core buck converter SY8113B, the other SY8113B manages the USB peripherals seperatly.
@AndrewDB .... looks like you may be correct it was power all along but it looks like its a kernel issue with the PCIe Power Management ?

NicoD got a reaction from Werner in Armbian in 3D
First render.
I'll make the dirt look more rough. I don't know of the color(colorblind...) I'll make the stone look marble.
I can also make grass and make it look a lot more cheerfull, maybe flowers or so.

Yes. I've got a big heatsink on the way for my Rock Pi4B. That one has 4GB ram vs 2GB of my M4. So with that I can do 4K or higher renders during a week/month of all of them.
I've added all the original .png renders + all the blender files as attachment file. Everyone can do a higher resolution render (8K, 16K, 32K???) if they want. Or play with it a bit.
Here are all of them. These are 1440p but converted to jpg.
Armbian transport
Snowy Armbian
Old school Armbian
Armbian in space
Empire of Armbian
Armbian @ the beach
Armbian__Backgrounds.7z

Armbian as transportation company (of 1's and 0's)...
This will be my last submission. I've got too many other things to do. Otherwise I would never stop. Cheers.

@NicoD @johanvdw Actually with some of the out of tree patches is possible to make it work. After all, I have fully functional LibreELEC image for PineH64. Well, not completely everything, but HDMI audio works pretty well. Patches are here and here. Btw, dma patches are important for audio and you have to enable sun4i-i2s driver and simple audio card if it's not yet.

Now one more for EOL? A gravestone with one of the background images as picture, a big RIp and some text to explain it's eol.
I can do that tomorrow. Let me know what text would fit to not enrage the user because it's eol.

Those are awesome. Good idea ill add all the words on top with gimp

@lanefu Something like this ok? It's first low res render, I've got to fix a lot of things.
d
Then you can add a banner over it, or big letters like this.
I can't do dark and grey. Blender is a program of light. Darkness is very difficult.

I could be simply having a penguin wearing a construction hat and holding a shovel ...
EDIT : ... placed on top of a big block written WIP with black/yellow diagonal bars ...

Here's the schematics for it.
https://mega.nz/#F!K1BQFQjL!W9rYedaoGpV4y8vHfrGEfQ
Mega is blocked here in Belgium, so I can't download it(without a lot of hassle)
Strange that ttl has 6 pins. I don't understand how that works, USB only has 4 pins. (no idea what cts or dtr is)
It should just work, I don't think those extra pins change anything.

Any news on the use of the backgrounds?
Or an orca, or a skunk, or a dalmatian, or a cow(lets keep it black and white, I'm colorblind )

I don't need another PineH64, I have one ... And since I´ve only one RockPro, I won't get rid of it ...
Do you have a spare "nvidia jetson nano", then, yes, I can take it ...

NicoD reacted to TonyMac32 in Pine H64 Model B
I ran it at 1.8 for about 30 minutes playing videos and keeping it clocked up, I never exceeded 65 C. That is with the tiny Tinker heat sink, so I think it is ok.

NicoD reacted to TonyMac32 in Pine H64 Model B
OK, OPi3 shows dcdca going to 1160000. The datasheet on the AXP805 has a weird 2-stage step size, but more concerning to me is the fact it seems to suggest there are 72 steps in a 6-bit number...
I'll make it match Opi-3 and not mess with the opp other than to correct it's syntax to match the rest of the opps
@NicoD even sitting at 1.488 forever running youtube video it isn't even warming up with a Tinker factory heatsink on it. I think we're probably in good shape heat wise, surprisingly.
Oh my goodness this is a nice little board...

I got a GPU RAM water block on mine... It gets to the mid 60's even then.
-
NicoD reacted to TonyMac32 in Pine H64 Model B
Don't you have an XU4? :-P
I saw written somewhere someone was mentioning it would only go to 1.488, I was just confirming, and found a good reason why. my dmesg looks a lot cleaner, I eliminated some patches that were no longer needed but written a bit differently than the actual mainline code, so some of them half-applied. .

NicoD reacted to TonyMac32 in WIP and CSC images
Release WIP and CSC images from their own page with very specific limitations, including, but not limited to: no kernel or u-boot updates, ideally with the kernel and u-boot package names modified with -unsupported-
Explain these are demo snapshot images, potentially even package a different wallpaper that has -unofficial- or something similar watermarked across it. Maybe even use the default WM theme.

RK3399 support is a total and utter mess. When we finally fix it, it will break the upgrade path on very nearly every board, since our current patching/boot situation is impossibly convoluted. Given the OP is not alone, and I completely understand his frustration, just imagine when that happens.
Well, I did say "opinion". I would guess it takes more than my automotive-engineering-minded release conservatism to shut down or change the direction of the entire project. I will open a new thread on this topic, I may have a compromise in mind.
