I verified that now in one monitor I have signal but with lines on screen. OPi doesn't work with Nexdock.

I tried different power adapter, also a 60W PD USB-C but the problem is the same.

why the OPi4 is so different from OPi4B

What do you mean by 4B ? I've never heard that a new version came out ...

Mine is OPi4 rev1.3 ...

EDIT: maybe you mean RockPi4B ?

EDIT2: With my RockPi4B, I've some flickerings but visible text on my Dell monitor, and with my HDMI 8in. LDC I've some worst flickerings without text displayed !

So, RockPi4B has HDMI troubles ...

the 4b and the 4 are more or less the same except the 4b USB3 is directly wired to the SPR2801S NPU.

I didn't knew that ...

In such case, OPi4 images should have HDMI working fine too.

The OPi 4B is the model with the NPU. I have the 4 "standard" without NPU.

I used two brand new micro SD card, one Samsung EVO Plus red 64 GB and one Lexar 633x 64 GB.

All the two cards works with Orange Pi Ubuntu not with Armbian Ubuntu.

With armbian my OPi4 works only via serial cable not via HDMI.

------

I add a new information: I installed Armbian on my eMMC but the no-HDMI-output problem persists.

You should ask the guys what the "direct firmware load error -2" is...

Also you didn't tell what software u use to flash.

Also post the dmesg of the emmc installation ?

My Orange Pi 4 arrives this week and i am now testing it. It''s a lot faster than the H6 and works ok! I hope, and if someone have a suggestion, there comes a case for this Orange Pi 4. I have btw the most basic version. No NPU and no internal flash.

With my higher quality HDMI cable i got no display like i has on the OnePlus. Strange enough: when i plug a cheap hdmi cable in i got display. Maybe display works with HDMI 1.4 cable and not 2.0?

A heatsink with a fan looks essential. I have broke a heatsink from a old Fritzbox 7490 and attached a fan to it. Now is it IDLE arround the 30 degrees  and with full load arround the 45

When it boots it takes a really long time before i could get access via SSH or see something on HDMI. What is the system doing in that time?

I suspect you are using a mainline kernel (5.x) image. With those the U-Boot takes a long time to start on RK3399.
I don't have the OPi4. But many other RK3399's. For most purposes the legacy images are best.

I'm sorry. I forgot to mention that I always use Balena Etcher to flash.

My dmesg is full of error like this:

Those errors are that kenrel try to load DirectPort blob, which Armbian doesn't provide, but this doesn't mean that it prevent HDMI to work.

If you simply wish to get rid of those error you can grab this blob and copy it into firmware folder and reboot :

mkdir /lib/firmware/rockchip
wget -O /lib/firmware/rockchip/dptx.bin https://github.com/wkennington/linux-firmware/raw/master/rockchip/dptx.bin

It was bettere before. Now the OP4 doesn't boot. :D

I'm out of office today, I was connected via VPN to my office LAN. I can't access via serial cable today, I will try in the next days and I will update you to understand what blocked the boot.

Since it's really hard to find any reviews on this board I figured I might ask here. So to those who own this board, is it working okay without any flaws in the hardware? I'm considering the basic non eMMC non NPU model.

rockpi image doesnt work... Now im using theyr ubuntu (in the debian image the lan desnt work) on the emmc. Likely they are all using the rockchip provided bsp 4.4 kernel... I wonder why since it got mainline support in 5.3 ! Id like to use mainline maybe in a second stage... So what to do now ?

@0626... no but there is a flat cable based pcie extension, like others rk3399, not sure what can u attach there...

Is the sound working on your HDMI output?

Because the board is not long relesed and also chinese new year and the corona virus makes that delivery takes a lot more time.

It works ok what i see now. But remember that Armbian is just work in progress for this board. If you stay on safe could you better buy a Rockpi 64 or something.

Should I review it? I didn't ask for one since I've got enough RK3399's, and I didn't think there be too much of a difference.
I could try to source one. Cheers.

Some requests:

- with the last image 29/2 it take more than a minute to boot !

- audio doesnt seems to work at a first test. is it only me ?

- pulse seems a bit too much for a sbc, by default... wasnt better simple alsa ?

- why xfce and not lxde ?

- I cant set a resolution (using settings) higher than 1080p, while using OP image I used 1440p pretty smooth...

- even in power-save profile the cpu is hot!

Thank you for your comment. I'm not really in a hurry as it will probably take a looong time to ship, to me it's just important that the hardware is OK since software can usually be fixed.

Oh, you mean the hardware fault in the H6 with result in a not working PCI-E port? I know to much about the details but readed on Facebook i thought that the PCI-E extension module worked. I got bluetooth not working. Wifi works. I want to try the GPIO pins but don't just know how to got it working. :)

Or OPI Zero overheating or some models having bad WIFI. You just can't know with these boards, but I bought one now, looking forward to trying it and hoping for the best.

I have not yet managed to use Armbian on this board (does not boot for me), but I can confirm it is hot as hell without a heatsink (with the default Android image from OrangePi).

I run now a few days 20.02.3 stable with kernel 5.4.23 and the things i discover are:

Bluetooth looks not to work (headless)

APCUPSD do i not get to work. With an older kernel it works

Cannnot switch to kernel 5.5.8. Get an error. In switch_kernel.log is to read: ´linux-image-dev-rockchip64=20.05.0-trunk.069 linux-dtb-dev-rockchip64=20.05.0-trunk.069 linux-u-boot-orangepi4-dev´. Dont know also what ´trunk.069´ means :)

Maybe simple things to fix. But i learn a lot but i am really sure not a advanced linux user. ;)

Do you happen to be using the same SD card that you used previously for Xunlong's BSP?

If so this is a known issue:
