I think it's available on AliExpress, but I've seen the item on Amazon.com as well...reasonable price: https://www.amazon.com/Orange-Pi-Rockchip-Frequency-Development/dp/B0C5BZLPZN It comes now with the RK3588 instead of the RK3588s of the 5 and 5B. It's similar in capabilities of the Rock 5B but I believe has a few more bells and whistles. It has two 2.5GB ethernet ports. Separate connectors than GPIO for RTC and fan. Full size HDMI input as well as 2 full size HDMI outputs. Can have m.2 for 2230 WiFi/BT on top side as well as m.2 2280 on bottom of board. I think it can only go up to 16GB memory. Not sure if Armbian will make all of these work...yet. But this makes perfect sense...I just bouth my Orange Pi 5 about a month ago PS: A new tag is required for this new variation...I guess. PPS: Other thing to note is that Amazon link is for a 16GB version and includes a power supply. However, this particular listing ships from China. For Orange Pi 5 and 5B there were listings that were fulfilled by Amazon. I would think that Orange Pi will/may have those in the near future, that ship from the US...hopefully, but likely a little more expensive. You sure do need that good powersupply with this model. I have to run my external data SSD drive off of an externally powered USB hub too, as it draws too much power. 0 Quote
ArmBoy1988 Posted May 19, 2023 Author Posted May 19, 2023 I was thinking that if the Orange Pi 5 I purchased didn't live up to what I was looking for, I'd buy the Rock 5B or something like that. In any case, I got the 16GB memory, m.2 for an SSD and I wasn't going to need WiFi or I could just get a WiFi dongle, if needed. A big difference, for me, is the PCIe throughput, I think that the throughput for the m.2 on the 5 will probably be sufficient. 0 Quote

royk Posted May 27, 2023 Posted May 27, 2023 Yup packaging looks good indeed, ordered one too so I could use the "old" one for LinuxCNC (great machine for it). Would've been better if it had a 12v dc input, atm I'm using a 5v 4a usb c adapter, it seems like this is giving me sporadic issues. Hopefully this isn't the case with the OPi5+. Otherwise power direct on the pins worked fine. I hesitated to buy the NanoPC-T6 which has a nice case (20,-) and 12v input, but it doesn't have MTD and no choice to buy without emmc. @Avatar Ng Did you buy a case/heatsink with it? 0 Quote

I am just a novice when it comes to Linux There is no Linux that can do anything but running a basic gnome desktop on the the Opi5, maybe in 2024. I guess flooding the market with rk3588 might move it along in time. There is no reason to use cli, when a Opi zero 2 or an rpi3 can do a better job. Example ; Opi zero 2 running OMV. It can boot successfully but it stucks while loading the linux filesystem at initramfs: ALERT! PARTUUID=614e0000-0000 does not exist. Dropping to a shell! None of the /dev/mmcblk1p1 or /dev/mmcblk1p2 of my sdcard has that PARTUUID. The rootdev in armbianEnv.txt refers to the UUID of /dev/mmcblk1p2. I can boot Orange Pi's Debian successfully by using the same sdcard so I don't think that's the problem. Any idea? Regards. 0 Quote

desperex Posted June 11, 2023 Posted June 11, 2023 Just successfully built Armbian_23.08.0-trunk_Orangepi5-plus_jammy_legacy_5.10.160.img with server profile, booted from SD, copied to eMMC and it works fine. Next step would be fixing pcie errors as I want to use LSI controller instead of NVME disk. MrBoyi Posted June 11, 2023 Posted June 11, 2023 I build a bullseye version from the trunk. Before that I used the Ubuntu jammy version by using Joshua Reik's dtb on an armbian image. Two issues that I run into: The problematic Intel Ax201 wifi can't seem to be detected. Spend the whole day trying to make it work but fail. armbian-config feature 'Install to/update boot loader' can't be used to move image to NVMe and bootloader to MTD flash. NVMe drive is not given as a destination option even though it can detected by the system. 0 Quote

Alejandro Pinar Ruiz Posted June 13, 2023 Posted June 13, 2023 Just received mine, works fine with Armbian_23.5.4_Orangepi5-plus_bullseye_legacy_5.10.160_minimal.img.xz but i am seeing around 10% to 15% usage at idle: I know htop takes some cpu, but system load being at 10 to 15% is really high, images provided by the orange pi website use about 1% on idle. I do not know if anyone is also experiencing this issue. 0 Quote

At least glxgears reached the 60FPS limit of my screen.. Now it's headless, so I cannot confirm. 0 Quote
