Black screen after first reboot? Do you mean the thing solved by cpu-stability overlay?

Note that the multitool is happy even if you put compressed gz/xz/zip/lzma/bz2 images in the images folder: it will decompress them on-the-fly.

The FAT partition, right after flashing the multitool, should be a bit less than 2Gb. 800 Mb is strangely small

Thanky for the Info about Zip/Gzip/XZ format , i use belanerEtcher for writing multitool image to SD-card

I would like to share a Portuguese tutorial to help installing armbian on RK3228 TV BOX model MXQ PRO. This tutorial helps dealing with black screen after first reboot, configuring Wifi, keyboard and Language. The link to the tutorial is https://docs.google.com/document/d/1v0bS7mFausicoExFPDP2PR-PKZeeeC3Di75XyB1g0AQ/edit?usp=sharing and can be found on this site too: https://www.gluee.com.br/index.php/learning-box

    nice work

    some comments

    1. i do not know if you get all box from same manufactor ( or if manufactor use always NAND) , maybe you have to show also eMMC install

    2. after flash multiboot.img i had only 800mb partition (enought for "buster minimal.img" ) i had to boot it once because resize of fat32 partition than i got enought space for "buster desktop.img"

    3. its maybe easyer to change armbianEnv.txt direct after rk322x-config , when a user unintend reboot the box you have the cpu-stability modifcation on . ( you can use "sudo nano" inside CLI for edit files)

  3. @Charles Bauer wow nice project

to achieve a good performance for Browser and YouTube is not easy way

my experience with raspberry 3b and as image DietPi, Raspbian or Ubuntu (Wireless over 5GHz or 100 Mbit link)

as browser I test chromium and Firefox and some small browser

all configuration I used has a lack of media acceleration because of missing free-GPU driver and the bottleneck of SD-Card (sometimes also lack of RAM)

most of the time I can open only max 3 Tabs than it gets very slow , youtube only 360p or less (360p i got only 15fps )

( my smartphone moto g5 2GB Ram has 10 Tab in chrome and did not get slower; my wife's laptop has 30 tabs in Firefox and Firefox used only 2GB Ram for this)

I did not test this rk3229 chip, but I thing because of missing free MALI-driver it maybe have same issues

I hope you get a better performance

I also work more on the hardware side as on software

but for my browser experience I switch to a rk3328 box with android and a chrome browser

  4. thanks for that fast reponse

after 2 more crash i also change governer to "schedule" -> my box sitting now at 1 ghz at 55 degree and is fine now (about 4h)

before i saw that every http request request the cpu to up to all 4cores 100% for 1sec and also fast switch of cpu frequency and temp (50degree to 65 degree )for the 1sec after that goes down to 600mhz , maybe the fast up and down related to the issue

thanks for the info about apps

  5. i am on mainline kernel 5.10

i had befor set cpu from 400MHz to limit 1.2GHz max  -> to limit thermal output

after that kernel panic i switch back to 600Mhz to 1.39GHz ( after kernel panic armbian-config has no 400Mhz option) now its little bit better

(could a app like php3 , nginx, mariadb do a kernel panic  like above ? )

but i hope i will not be get worse

  6. i do not know if something change in last apt upgrade for rk332x root or image but i got today kernel faults and emmc problem

emmc problems like the one i report when i config emmc in armbianEnv.txt

my box tell me 398% CPU usage

    kernel panic

  7. @jock i have a small request is it possible to get a 4 led config ?

    i got with

Ledconfig 1 -power =first red than red and blue on  ( i thing its not good for Led)

                       -kernel =  blue on

-power off = red and blue on

    ledconfig 2 -power =red on

-kernel = red on ,blue disk work status

                    -power off = red on

    ledconfig3 -power = red on

-kernel = red off , blue off

    my request

    ledconfig4 power= red on

kernel = red off, blue on

also after ledconfig3 the box did not get back to ledconfig1 mode at reboot only with power off

ledconfig3  to ledconfig2 work with reboot

  8. @beretas i think 70-91 degree is not a unnormal reading , my box get idle 60 degree , load at 80 degree , @jock and other already told me that normal ,

also my other rockchip 3328 box idle at android at 40-50 degree load above 70-90 degree

i also have a amlogic box M8S with a S812 cpu there idle around 30 degree and load at 50 degree but first step to get linux on this box is little bit complex.

  9. hi and welcome

there is no a to z guide how to get linux to the box because like i wrote before therer a big mix of diffirent boxes ( 3 diffferent wifi chip , 3 or 4 different Lan chip) also most of the armbian community only work with and on open source or community Software.

    ubuntu is a linux

armbian is ubuntu linux or debian linux with tools and setup for small space envoirments

its possible to run this box as a slow NAS ( only USB2 support ; most of the box only has 2.4GHz Wlan N ) ; Plex or Media box still a problem because the media recode is not optimal ( lag of graphic driver)

i thing on page 24...26 i wrote some steps  ( but feel free to write a guide ) be

balbes150 has stop his work on this Amlogic Armbian release but there are some work on the linux Kernel for AMLOGIC chipset but its slow .

    there are 3 main steps

    1. get the bootloader unlock for multiboot with the aml_autoscript.zip from Android or from TWRP

    2. get the armbian on a SD-Card (  beleanerEtcher or ImageWrite32 )

3 get the right setup to boot linux ( dtb files)

But I am struggling with videos. I tried using Focal Legacy but it is not worth it, it's just too slow.

    1. Is there a way to use your media framework on Debian legacy? I tried but it doesn't install.
    2. Also, if it is not too much to ask, is there a trusty tutorial on overclocking the CPU/GPU/RAM? It may not be worth it nor make a significant difference, but then again it might!

    </questions><tip>
I even might have something to add: running the rk322x-config is a MUST to enable the ssv6051p. However, regardless of what I choose, it will always force me back to a "UUID=xxx does not exist Dropping to a shell" boot error (and I tried a shit ton of combinations...). Yet, I figured out that if I edit "/boot/armbianEnv.txt" right after running rk322x-config and delete whatever "overlays" line is there, I "fix" it: Wi-Fi works and I can boot normally! Not a single clue as to why it happens, but hope this can help someone...</tip>

for 2 i do other way i underclock the cpu because of my opinion too hot cpu

@jock i got my box to a 100% load on all 4 cores  from bug webservice its run at 85 degree stable with 1.2Ghz ( i dont know why last time ( first time with linux after switch from android) at 75 degree the box freeze and short after black screen maybe it wasnt a thermal problem .

    for 3.

i have same problem with UUID , but for me its was only to delete the emmc or nand or emmc-nand part from the armbianENV, the rk3229 and the ledconfig1  parts work great.

  11. @fabiobassa thanks for fast answer ,  i know some tools from amlogic when android still at internal memoryy ->read boot partition , extract file , convert dtb to dts . but i have no instruction for read boot partition from a image  ( and no i have no orginal image leelbox-tech.com is only a placeholder) , i have also no clou how read that from backup file

my infrared thermo meter say also around 45-50 degree , also my finger say it get warm

  12.

    Zitat

The original dtb of your box may be helpful to understand if your board has particular settings or gpio configurations

i did not want back to android , the box works great with linux . is there a way to extract dtb from backup file ?

  13. Hallo team

first thanks for the good work

i am now a long time active with balbes150 on the Amlogic S805/S812 forum side , but last week i bought two Rockchip box for small amount .

i am very happy for this good support on this box

    my box Leelbox Q2 Pro RK3229 2gb ddr3 / 16GB emmc , Ap6255

    but i have two problems

first is that both trigger of the rk322x-config tool ->emmc and nand  are stop the initramfs  script to boot the box i always get stuck that the uuid of emmc is missing or incorrect ,

without the emmc or nand config the box works great  !!!!

secound the high idle temperature of the box , i have long time a M8S Box with a Amlogic S812 and the idle temp is around 30-35 celcius , this rockchip box are idle at around 55-60 celcius , some load and the box hit the 75 celcius and shut down ( also the other rockchip box with rk3328 idle around 55 celcius on android)  is that normal or do i have a faulty chip ?

both problem on latest buster minimal 20.04 kernel 5.10  and bionic desktop 20.04 kernel 5.10 rom

i dont use the lagecy kernel 4.4 rom because i didnt not get wifi running

  14. @Ruf73

Thank you for being a little more detailed this time

for 5.44 and 5.77 both use the 3.10 kernel which is identical to the Android 4.4 kernel so there are many boxes running with the default settings
that 5.44 only runs with HDMI and with less memory is due to the fact that not exactly all settings are working

after flashing the SD_card should have 2 partitions 1. boot 2.Linux
in the 1. partition Boot files must be changed depending on the version as follows:

for 5.44 and 5.77 you have to change the dtb.img file on the SD Card after flashing with the correct file from the subfolder
this must be copied and renamed as dtb.img in the main directory of the boot partition.

for 20.xx images, due to the new kernel, only the link in the file uENV.txt is changed to the correct file in the subfolder of the boot partition of the SD card.

    ! some boxes always need a HDMI cable ;

! the dtb file tells the kernel what , how , and where is available in the box
but also the kernel and the Linux must also be able to handle it
therefore it is not possible to move a working dtb file from 5.77 to 20.xx.

  15. @xaleks

First there is no A to Z guide how to make this android to linux box , because there are many diffirence between the box . feel free to write one

Download link to the Armbian version I need to try and dtbs I should attempt to use?

somewhere in this thread armbian.com/linux/balbes  ( last 3 pages)

How to boot from the SD card (I assume this is the tooth pick method)?

toothpick is only to get to recovery partition / recovery tool

you also have to find a way to install the aml_autoscript , this script activte the multiboot option on bootloader for usb and sd-card boot

( i had to sideload TWRP from sd-card to  temporary recovery and than replace recovery with twrp, install the aml_autoscript and also root the box)

Where to solder a uart bridge (I'm using my bus pirate for this) for uart?

look at the lower section on your picture. Are there the mark for RX;TX and GND ?  maybe look at the other side of the board !  ; What is a bus pirate ? you need a uart rs232 to usb ( be aware you need maybe 3,3V UART adapter )  that enough,

    dtb

there are some in the armbian boot section for testing , there is also a mxii.dtb

  16. @menelike  i look at the dts file for 5.xx kernel and see many i2c channels are state disable but rtc is still enable , i think that system try to reach the rtc but without i2c is like disconnect ,

    @SteeMan i think the problem is more that some vendor have sometime change where thinks connected rtc somtimes on i2c_AO sometimes on i2c_A ;

and that many thinks are still diable in the mainline kernel dts files because the dev didn have time or have not hardware to test all ,

  17. from where do you have the dts file for 5.10 Kernel ? what happen if you also disable RTC clock , its also possible thats  i2c problem because pcf8563 has i2c interface

for GPU is normal to have no reserve memory because strucktur of dts / dtso are now

    --> kernel / main chipset/ chipset / devices

    like my my m8s

    -->kernel 5.xx / meson.dts / menson8.dts / menso8m2_m8s.dtso

the reserve memory can also be descripte in menson.dts

next think is that the dtb ( that is the files that descripte the box) has change from 3.xx kernel to 5.xx kernel because 5.xx kernel are useable for a wide area of devices (some Information the 3.xx kernel dtb file has possible to set  3 state (high, low ...) of a pin the new kernel i thing 5 state ( high , low , low activ, high activ ....)   )

so we need more information about your box ( we have S805 +rt8723bs

like : wich old kernel work with wifi , wich pin is for wifi enable from old 3.xx kernel dtb  , wich dtb from 5.xx kernel work now and so on
