That is what I do all the time, the nand-sata-install is working fine.
Then, if I wish to boot from SDCard, even if U-Boot is start booting from eMMC as priority, I'm stopping it with <spacebar>, then do "mmc list" to see SDCard number, and do "setenv devnum 1" followed with "run mmc_boot", it will then continue booting from SDCard ...

@JMCC  Hi. I'm trying to make some Linux games to work well on the NanoPi M4.
I've tried that tool `glrun`. But I'm not having the best results. I get the message OpenGL: OpenGL version is too old!
So I'm trying supertuxkart. Here's the output without glrun

Next month I'll make a video about the RK3399's with desktop use with your media script. And I'd like to be able to play extremetuxracer and supertuxkart if possible.
    Cheers.

Yes. A question should be provided to you on the end by defaults to "Power off". I installed it to eMMC and it worked fine in 1st try ... only shorting those pins was a bit tricky

I'm running my OrangePi3 headless, but just to verify HDMI, I've tested with both my Dell 23in monitor as well as a small 10in HDMI LCD, and I'm able to see the login prompt in plain text (without any x11).
    Did the nand-sata-install succeed ?
Personally, I didn't get issue and I'm running Armbian from the eMMC...

Instead of applying power, if I recall correctly, I used the RESET button SW2103, it is much easier to press, and less risks to shake your other hand doing the TP50265 short...

I know by been one of the first having done that, TP50265 is so small, you need steady not shaking hand to make the short correctly ...

But it works... wg is cool as CPU load is minimal, compared to the CPU intense OpenVPN -

Enter MIPS24Kc, which would be comparable to ARM11 - Pre-ARM Cortex-A7... the other day, two clients attached, and CPU load was 3 percent, and that's with Stubby and WG active over a 4G mobile hotspot (USB-150 was WiFi to the phone as WAN, and routing from there to two WiFi clients)

I suppose this is the difference between an Application focused SoC vs a Network focused platform.

There's another thread where I chat a bit about MIPS - interesting arch there for networking stuff...

Anyways - the openwrt repo's also support Tor, which may be of some interest to some...

    Something to consider...

    https://www.gl-inet.com/products/gl-usb150/

MIPS based - but full OpenWRT/Linux under the hood - wireguard client/server and OpenVPN client/server - plug into the PC/Mac/Linux and it is an ethernet device, but not needed, just give it power and it'll run...

If one is bent toward WiFi hacking, the SoC WiFi is ATH9K based, which is one of the better WiFi chips for documentation purposes...

I had the same problem with a fresh build of the latest dev image. I flashed onto eMMC, but the RK3399 would not boot from it. After booting again from an (older) SD card, I was able to update the bootloader on eMMC using armbian-config. After rebooting again with the SD card still in place, the eMMC image seemed to take over again and work like normal. After that I could boot direct to eMMC without SD card again.

It's not PuTTy but the latest version (10.1.7) of the Silicon Lab CP210x USB to UART Bridge driver.  That only works up to a baudrate of 9 999 999 baud. Had to go back to my old version (10.1.2.2115) to get it going again for this high baudrate. There several versions in between, but I didn't check those....

    The image I used at the time was from RKTool_Linux.tar.gz -> Linux_Pack_Firmware/Linux-rockdev_2015-06-17_for_RK3399.zip -> rockdev/

This comes from OrangePi MEGA folder : https://mega.nz/#F!K1BQFQjL!W9rYedaoGpV4y8vHfrGEfQ!ekYA0AwR

Why did they hide the image into a sub-sub-archive on a random MEGA folder ? I don't know.

Strange that ttl has 6 pins. I don't understand how that works, USB only has 4 pins. (no idea what cts or dtr is)
It should just work, I don't think those extra pins change anything.

@gounthar - If you do not mind you cannot reboot ( hangs for the moment ) what about the orangepi Lite 2?
It can do 1,8GHz BUT H6 SoC is still in developement (WIP), it is half the price of a RockPi4, model A 1GB (RK3399).
had promising results using a OPiOnePlus with ovpn ( near 200Mbit maybe more as my upload is CAPped ).
A +/- 12Mbit stream resulted in 40% CPU usage, pushing it to the max ( iperf single/ multiple threads ) got it easily to 1,8GHz : my findings, incl temp increase, can be found here
Anyway the board has BT, both WiFi and LAN gigabit - but as mentioned DEV image ( kernel 5.x ) needs to be build to have it " somewhat stable " , for VPN (LAN) it works at least.
    hope this helps

heh, sorry, I mean that the neo2 has no wifi.  It's a ethernet-only board, and (without breaking out the pin header) only one usb-A port soldered.
The neo plus 2 might be closer to what you're looking for, but it's not a board I have.  Should be very, very similar in performance though.

I am getting excellent results with an Odroid HC1. I use it as an OpenVPN server at home, and with my laptop as roadwarrior I get about 80-90 Mbps over my 100 Mbps connection. And also, since now it is on sale, you can get a HC1/MC1 Solo/XU4Q for about $50 at Ameridroid.

Other than that, anything with crypto extensions and good single-thread performance would do good, like some RK3399 for example (though it will be more expensive). Avoid boards with many slow cores but no big ones, since OpenVPN is single-threaded.

I just build a Armbian image for the Orange Pi 3. The performance is a lot better. It doesn't throttle quickly.
But there is something strange with the temperatures. I'm reading temperatures of 75°C while 7z b, while my heatsink doesn't feel hot to the touch. When the test is done it immediatly goes back to 40°C.
I tried different heatsinks, small ones and bigger ones. The same result.

But when I don't use a heatsink and put my finger on the SoC, then it gets very hot very fast.
So the problem probably is that this SoC is too small to be able to dissipate the heat well into a heatsink.

At least it now performs almost 2x as fast as the Orange Pi image with kernel 3.10. But hdmi resolution is 1024x768.

It seems that OrangePi 3 has DDC_CEC_EN signal (pin PH2), which has to be enabled in order to read out EDID. Can someone try to enable it by hand and then re-plug hdmi to see if it helps?

Correct solution would be to extend HDMI driver with additional DDC power supply or gpio property, like it's done here: https://github.com/Icenowy/linux/commits/h6-hdmi (IMO power supply is more appropriate solution).

Great job. I've built Armbian_5.77_Orangepi3_Ubuntu_bionic_dev_5.0.1_desktop, and I finally can see the potential of this SoC.
It now outperforms all my other quad-core SBC's. Thermals are ok, even without a fan it's very workable.
It does seem that the heat can't dissipate well into the heatsink, I think this SoC is a bit too small. With a short 7z benchmark is quickly goes up to 75°C. But the heatsink doesn't warm up. When done it immediatly goes back to 45°C. So it can't deliver the heat into the heatsink.

Maximum display resolution is 1024x768. On-board wifi doesn't work, but my dongles worked immediatly. Also no hdmi sound.
Just for fun I tried Youtube. And it plays great in 1080p with Firefox. Don't know if this would be the same with a true 1080p display resolution.

I'm very happy seeing a better performing image for it. What a difference with the images from Orange Pi.
The SoC could use a metal casing to better dissipate the heat, otherwise it looks good. Thank you.

Potentially a WIP/csc until Armbian in general properly supports rk3399.  This isn't so much a libre computer issue as it is a u-boot/kernel issue, all Rockchip boards with high-spec ram have been a challenge to support because the Rockchip binary blobs aren't so great sometimes.  I have this board, I can test any PR's in the meantime while I clean up some other stuff

the USB-C at the rear with the Ethernet port is the power-in, not hard to do backwards.
