Werner reacted to Akeo in nanoPC-T4 USB type-c port doesn't work with Buster current 5.4.31
Yes, I fully agree with your analysis that the proper solution is to have upstream kernel properly fixed to perform autonegotiation. But in the absence of someone actively working on that, and considering that many NanoPC-T4 users are looking for a solution that'll let them use USB-C in host mode, we might as well provide a workaround through an overlay for the time being. I have therefore submitted a Pull Request for this in https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/2299.

@wurmfood and @357up it could be an issue with the wire harness. Can you do more try by swapping the cable between the bay slots and sata ports in order to narrow down the problem to the wire harness. If it's the case then you can contact us to support@kobol.io and we will help you from there.

@AurelianRQ Regarding the issue for 2.5GbE port that doesn't perform properly when used in 1000Mb mode, unfortunately there is no fix that can be done by software. But it's actually pretty easy to fix on the board itself, it only requires to solder one wire between 2 points. Our mistake is that we didn't connect center tap of the 2.5Gb MAGJACK to 2.5V power rail (connected to ground instead) in order to provide common mode for MDI signals which is required for 1000Mb mode somehow. We will post a PCN bulletin to explain better this limitation and how to fix it for people who are up for a bit of soldering.

@aegiap Unfortunately your link aggregation is going to be impacted to the issue mentioned above. The 2.5GbE doesn't perform properly in 1000Mb mode.

Winter is coming, got my old spaceheaters running too Old pc's are only to be used for fun, not for productivity.

I would think the RockPiX should be able to do that since it's x86. AtomicPi is even cheaper. But not from EU.
I've never used anything like that.
I use plain Armbian Bionic legacy on rk3399 to watch all media, and my OPi+ fileserver also Bionic desktop with all my back-up/network storage.
Maybe I should look into plex and see what the fuss is all about.

    Tried, problem is really solved.
Btw, I am building kernels for 6 boards, mainline and legacy, everytime when new versions of kernel appear.
Changes in building system that have been made since kernel version 5.8.16 speeds up building about 20%, according my observations.
    Good work!

It actually is. After rsync'ing files to another device, remove the directory /boot from there. Then, after restart, mount the filesystem on the sdcard to somewhere on the new filesystem. Mine is at /mnt/sdcard. To achieve this, add a line to /etc/fstab like:
    /dev/mmcblk1p1          /mnt/sdcard        ext4    defaults, noatime,nodiratime   0     2 after creating the actual directory in /mnt.

Then, issue just once a command:
    ln -s /mnt/sdcard/boot /boot
And it will be there each time you restart, also allowing the updater to put firmware files where they should be. And it runs now perfectly.

If you're feeling adventurous and like living life on the edge, I have provided a buildable 5.10 tree here for sunxi:

    git clone -b v5.10-dev-test https://github.com/5kft/build
Build as normal using "./compile.sh" using "BRANCH=dev" from this git branch and it'll build 5.10.0-rc1 targets.  Both sunxi and sunxi64 builds are enabled.  Note that I only tested on a few H3 and H5 boards (both Nano Pi and Orange Pi), but it seems to work pretty well.  But no guarantees, support, etc. - this is just a side project atm

@destroyedlolo  Before you start complaining about us not supporting you on twitter, how about you actually give us some usable information to go from?

    Such as:
    - Which Armbian image are you running - you have stated this no where in your request?
    - Which kernel is it using
    - What are you doing when the Kernel panic occurs

The only information you have given so far that is even reasonably helpful is the information about the libraries you installed.

When not using those libraries and other (custom) software on the board, does this issue still occur?

What additional  steps did you take to debug this on your own?  Did you hook up a UART serial adapter and review the console?

All of these things are important if you want people here to respond and help you.

Additionally, you are always welcome to come to IRC and ask for help, #Armbian on Freenode IRC network, there are a lot of active people there that may be able to help.

You may also, since this is Allwinner, want to report the issue to #linux-sunxi as well as they work on the mainline kernel for Allwinner boards.

Look forward to hearing back with more details and less accusations that we are unhelpful!

    my 2 cents.

    Cheers!

This afternoon (eg around 7h) i will put some smaller old disks in helios64 to keep an eye on the progress.

I can start those containers there again.

If you want me to provide any additional info just tell me.

As it will sit there with test data only i can give you root access too in case you are interested.

Werner reacted to NicoD in Raspberry Pi 4 gaming with TwisterOS
    Hi all.
For gaming on the Raspberry Pi 4 there is nothing better(opinion) than TwisterOS.
It is Raspberry Pi OS with a lot preinstalled tools for gaming. Also very nice skins to make your OS look like old Windows versions, or even MacOS.
You can play old Windows games with it thanks to Box86 + wine which is preinstalled and configured.
Also native x86 Linux games run amazingly well with it.
There is a Steam client preinstalled. Is must say I've never used it, since I've never used/liked Steam.

You can download TwisterOS here : https://twisteros.com
The official TwisterOS reviewer on Youtube is @Salvador Liébana and his colleague from Pi Labs : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgfQjdc5RceRlTGfuthBs7g
If you got questions about TwisterOS you can go to Discord and find the TwitserOS group. And for Box86 there is also a Discord group.

I also made some videos about it. First how to install it and configure it to your choice.

Next is Windows games on Twister OS 1 :

Here video number 2 of Windows games on TwisterOS.

You can also use TwisterOS to run old Windows programs. Here my video about that.

I still need to make videos about x86 Linux games on TwisterOS, and console emulation.
When done I will also share these here.
    Please share your experiences.

    You're welcome.
If you need to know in which ways Armbian differs to "vanilla" Debian or Ubuntu just take a look at the build script on Github: https://github.com/armbian/build
There - besides of the kernel sources and patches - you will find bsp packages and tweaks which are included or applied to each board individually depending on their family. For examples optimizations to increase sd cards lifetime or power consumtion.

Probably noone really tried to do such a thing . If you think about the boards price tag it is simply not worth wasting time to do emulation for testing.
If another community member has experience with this and is willing to help it is more than welcome. However from Armbians side there is probably noone that will take a look into due to general lack of ressources.

I dont know the specific reason for emulation to play with it beforehand but in general said Armbian is a Ubuntu or Debian OS, mostly unaltered, with a kernel package that will make it work on a particular board.
From userspace point of view there is little to know difference from having Debian as Armbian on a Board or Debian as - well - Debian ^^ on a PC or virtual machine. Binaries need to be armhf/arm64 or x86/amd64 of course but that's it. So maybe you can test whatever you wanna make run on your board with a x86 virtual machine as well.

Hey aprayoga, thanks for your answer, I would have answered earlier, but it seems that I can't post more than ONE (!) message per day on this forum, we need to find a better way to interact with users, because it is hard to both follow discussions and search in this one single immense thread.
BTW, following the fact that with a powered USB HUB I was able to see both disks, I took a cable with the double end (one for data and the other one for the power), connected both to the two back ports, and both disks are now usable. It is in any case strange, because I can connect these disks with just the single data cable to any raspberry and work on them, but for me this is an acceptable workaround, instead of playing with the /boot/armbianEnv.txt boot parameters.

It might be that one side of front panel (the side with red LEDs) touch a bit the metal opening shorting the LED therefore lighting them up.
Could you trip to loosen a bit the 2x screws holding the front panel, then push a bit back the PCB, then tighten again the screw.
Otherwise putting a piece of tape on the PCB side that touch the metal opening, to isolate the LED, could help.

For next batch we will have to increase more the gap because mass production doesn't seem to meet exactly our tolerance requirement  :-/

If you have an active subscription you can select it from the Theme menu at the very bottom of the page.

If you do not have one, get it here: https://forum.armbian.com/subscriptions/

Also the white banners with red text mentioning to provide proper logs, contribute code or buy swag and so on will no longer be shown to donators.

Last but not least for all users a new editor icon has been added which allows to add inline code:
    For example you can highlight a command like code { font-family: Consolas,"courier new"; color: crimson; background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.2); padding: 2px; font-size: 105%; } armbianmonitor within a sentence.

While Tux is on a secret mission to save the princess from lord Gates his hands. The other rebels are training to improve their skills.
For one day they'll come out of their dark places, into the light, and fight the evil empires until they crumble and die. Just like the once mighty Commodore before them. Hahaha, hahahaha, hahahahahahahaaaa.
