I read what you write and once again I was convinced-you are a banal troll, who, hiding behind beautiful slogans, is trying to get support for the shit that you bought. You're trying to convince other users to buy this shit ($30 aml tv boxes), and then try to get support by relying on a lot of idits who will follow this advice and buy this shit. There is no point in proving anything to the troll, it is useless. I wouldn't be surprised if you turned out to be a banal peddler of this shit. If you are such a freedom fighter, here is a ready - made solution for your ideas about freedom-Station M1\P1. This is a completely finished product for the most "average Joe". It does not need to alter anything for normal cooling, you do not need to assemble it from different parts, you do not need to spend time on debugging software, etc.And most importantly, this equipment has guaranteed support, and for every taste - Android or Linux (Armbian Slarm Freebsd and bunch of different specialized distributions for different tasks, etc.). But you don't need it, you want to make others work for the shit that you like (profitable) .

P.S. About the inner kitchen of AML and the device, I know much more than you and my refusal to support them is based on real knowledge, but I'm not going to waste time explaining everything to you in detail and convincing you. The only advice I can give to anyone reading this is to absolutely avoid this shit.

If we rule out deliberate cheating by Amlogic (to show bigger numbers and numbers are what people are buying), then yes, others are nothing better. But what you are not understanding at all is the difference between a complete trash (Amlogic/Rockchip/Allwinner TV box) and single board computer, a board that comes at least with a documentation and a team of engineers to provide some support. Also if there is not enough additional people / community, that will dig "read" the hardware, you can simply forget about. Cost of support is everything and bringing some garbage hardware from zero to the average Joe level is insane if there is not heavily community backing. There is a lot more hardware out there then people with interest and knowledge to do something about. A lot more.

According to your posts you have no intention nor knowledge to work on. Perhaps I am wrong? Armbian maintainers have common stand to not support any hardware on the extreme end since frustration of not being able to get anywhere is too high and it also cost 10 - 50x more. Remember that dealing with is 99% our private money that goes into your pleasure. And ain't small. I lost on average around 10h every day working on this project. I just lost 1h trying to explain something. And I am not alone.

If average Joe wants bringing Linux on shit TV box, he can forget about seeking our free help, but otherwise, for normal hardware that comes with proper documentation and optional some vendor support we have "Board bring up section", so that posts as such are not scattered around forum. Its 2021. Market is saturated with all sorts of cheap hardware and all of them are seeking free community support without which they are just a paperweight. Currently its near to impossible to get eyes on something new. We barely can maintain / keep this hw usable. Each upstream upgrade kills some of the board or its primary function. That's the reality average Linux fan forgets and live his dream ... Vendor proprietary sw doesn't break since it never receives any updates. That is the key of "success", while maintaining mainline based sw is something different. More expensive and receive no support. Not from you, not from vendor. You want that, while vendor would like rather to push you their software where he might have some advantage from competition stored in closed library. Under their control. Its not about open / free so much, I agree on that point with you, but about the level of control.

You mean the most expensive part? Without any financial backing for developers / maintainers, free of charge. You already have a lot of that, you just don't notice and care and want more and better. That's the world of average Joe.

Documentation for average Joe: https://docs.armbian.com/ Images ready to run without any difficulties - burn and run, images are even tested for you https://www.armbian.com/download/?device_support=Supported so average "customer" doesn't waste their precious time. Then community supported tutorials for whatever you need: https://forum.armbian.com/forum/40-reviews-tutorials-hardware-hacks/ or 3rd party https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials

Starting at average Joe level - contribution to Linux kernel directly require more rules which are hard sticking to for a beginner. You can start at more user friendly level: https://www.armbian.com/get-involved/

    https://www.armbian.com/donate
Start covering what you have - you only cover around 0.5% of our running costs, 0.0% for TV boxes. From paperweight to running Linux. TV box is not a PC so it can't run as a PC. Its closer to embedded experiences or lets say it is something in between. Its cheapest possible form of single board computer, of barebone. Also we don't have resources of a desktop PC and we don't have (yet) proper foss drivers to support hardware function, we don't have acceleration within web browser, ... Each ARM family is like another architecture. Diverse, purpose oriented ARM world is far more complicated than heavily standardised PC world ...

and due to lack of any technical specs, development is not possible. Only more wasteful hacking and reverse engineering. If hardware is not under full control of community, open, it's pointless to invest sw support. Vendor can screw you up at any time. Can disable & enable features, can manipulate numbers ...

BSP kernels from all vendors are already at 4.4 - 4.9 but they are full of non-standard solutions, shitty cheaply made solutions, closed drivers, etc. Usually only vendor engineers maintain that private kernel which they "support". This hasn't changed.

    Marketing BS.

But I heard they are supporting some Foss development, porting drivers to mainline, but could also be just rummers. And kernel is just one thing. The easy part. You have to load this kernel somehow ... and here, things are certainly not (yet) foss. Not at Amlogic, not with Rpi ...

Also please do some forum search - we have been through those questions many times.

This is a tricky shit that hides behind openness, but in fact tightly controls the main part-the loader. I.e., at any time, it can block or completely control any unwanted person's actions.

It's funny, you described a whole theory about freedom, and as a result it all came down to advertising and pushing aml shit.
For your information, aml imposes its BSP shit on everyone, which is stuffed with Trojans and bookmarks to gain full control over those who use their shit. They lie to all users about their hardware and actively cooperate with those you are trying to protect yourself from.

In general, everything is as usual, if you remove the beautiful words about freedom, it all came down to the fact that "someone" would spend their time and money and provide the rest with free use of aml shit.

I checked the Renegade Elite hat on Station P1.
Connected (with some additional steps), everything worked. NVMe is visible and can be used for system placement or other needs. But there is a nuance with the physical placement of the hat. I had to remove the WiFi antenna connector and add an insulator to the plane of the power connector, it touches the hat at the location of the POE elements. Also, because of this, it will not be possible to insert the hat contacts completely, to the full depth. And you need to replace the racks with lower ones, the regular ones are too high.

For TV boxes, there is no official Armbian, so there is no point in wasting time on this, on each TV box, the process will be different and users will be tormented by questions about why they do not find the elements that you will tell about.

That's a good idea. I'll see what tool is best used in Android to burn the image. I've never used android for it, but since people with P1/M1 certainly have Android it is a great idea.
I've got a video planned where I show a full installation of Armbian Buster Legacy. I can start it in Android. I'll make the video when my NVMe hat arrives. Thanks for the idea. I wouldn't have thought about it.

p.s. I've got a Mecool KM6 with S905X4 to review Android 10 on it. I don't suppose there will be Armbian for this? Just asking so I don't say anything wrong.
I like the box, but I can't get used to Android. For watching video it's ok, but for productivity tasks it is bad.

@NicoD Can you shoot a video on how to download and burn an Armbian image to an SD card using only a regular Android on P1 ? I. e. I am interested in a video how to run Armbian with only P1. This instruction allows any user, without any additional devices (PC, laptop, etc.) to get a working Armbian on any supported device.

I tried adding a new configuration to the build system that is (if possible) close to the current set of master branch packages when building a default image with DE XFCE. I checked the native build with this configuration option, the build passes without errors and the images work on P1\M1. If someone has time, please look and check the received configuration, maybe I missed some necessary packages (or added extra ones). Links to package lists for focal and buster.

LE uses its own settings management system (including audio), which consists of many different additional components (these are not components of KODI itself). For Armbian + mediascript, you must first set the necessary settings in the system (if the system supports them, not all settings are possible in Armbian) and then switch to KODI. In Armbian, the KODI application is limited in setting different hardware settings, it uses system settings.

@IgorI can confirm that freshly build Buster Legacy on the M4V2 is working. I love the native ARM build, so much faster than the RockPiX And that's RK3399, haven't gotten N2+ to work yet.

I do not know what the problem with the RockPi4 image is.
It can't have been the same issue as M4V2. The discription makes me think it's also hdmi not working as with P1.

Tried 3 times with different clips. In the end I cut it all out.. Thanks @JMCC for the awsome work. Without your scripts I wouldn't think of using an SBC as main desktop.

Release planning: January 2nd. Meeting location is IRC channel #armbian on freenode. Meeting starts at 2pm GMT.

    Open topics / development directions:

    - desktop branch merge into the master
    - enabling 3D support on desktop(s)
    - update u-boot (where possible) to 2020.10 and K5.10.y
    - ZSH setting to default or optimise 1st run choosing
    - moving blob section (except build packages) to newly created structure inside "desktop" branch (need to discuss best way / adjust framework if needed and set rules!)
    - and Jira bugs / features we chose to deal with by then

There are reports about some broken images on Rockchip legacy, K5.9.y is EOL so there is an option to squeeze another bugfix update with focus on u-boot / kernel update + image refreshing. Anything that is outside of my test rig - I have no idea about the statue - except well known NIC troubles with Orangepi 3.

There is no "new" kernel for P1, I use the rockchip64 kernel (all patches are regular from the build system only added patches for DTB), the difference is only in the kernel configuration + adding drivers for WiFi.
