According to their docs, it can run at 1.8Ghz and since it's a 28nm chip, it should use less power than the H5. This doesn't mean that the OrangePi boards will run at 1.8Ghz, but at least it's a possibility. It also supports USB 3.0 and DDR4 RAM. Again, these are capabilities of the chip and not necessarily exposed on the SBCs sold by Orange Pi.
Icenowy
No USB3/PCIE. This makes this board not interesting at all. I think people should wait for Orange Pi 3 (I think 3 Plus may also have also some problem) or Pine H64. P.S. The DRAM chip is branded "Allwinner". Pine H64 claims to follow the same price with Rock64 with the same DRAM capacity. (Note: the 4GiB version of Pine H64 can only address 3GiB DRAM due to restriction of Allwinner chips). Hopefully - if the H6 draws less power than the H5 its getting cooler. As its my feeling - the H5 already run much cooler with the actual mainline kernel against the more hot running legacy kernel. James Kingdon
I see Orange have released a H6 board. Android only for the moment, but might be interesting once Linux is available. https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Orange-Pi-One-Plus-H6-1GB-Quad-core-64bit-development-board-Support-android7-0-mini-PC/1553371_32848891030.html Not a board to cause huge amounts of excitement (limited IO, only 1G ram) but it's a low cost way of testing out the H6. Edit: Ah, thanks tkaiser. I obviously haven't been keeping up recently.

Thanks for noticing that. I've got mine sitting on my desk as a paperweight waiting for someone to release a working Linux distro for it. I'll report back my power consumption and speed measurements later today. Ugh - now I remember why I appreciate Armbian so much. The Linux distro provided by OrangePi is 1.5GB, yet somehow is missing everything I need. This may take a while... Update: The board doesn't really seem to have any advantage over H5 boards. The max CPU frequency in the kernel shows as being 1.8Ghz, with the min set to 480Mhz. When pushed by my gcc_perf test, the results didn't fare much better than an RPI3. The power usage is what's really disappointing. The other H2+/H3/H5 boards I've tested usually max out at about 580mA when all 4 cores are cranking. The H6 is supposed to be a 28nm process and I thought that would mean lower power usage. The Orange Pi One Plus maxes out at 830mA when all 4 cores are stressed by gcc. Can anyone else do some testing to see if it matches my results?
joaofl
Quote Can anyone else do some testing to see if it matches my results? My observations are: - Android distribution: sucks! Very premature. One can not do anything. I was intended to test video playing, but could not get Kodi to run, neither any other app since Google play is not installed. So, even the apps that show up in the menu do not work. So I rapidly gave up on it. Current when idle seemed stable at around 380mA - Ubuntu server: distro does not boot if you have HDMI plugged in.... Idle current is 410mA Ethernet seems to be really Gigabit... Results for iperf below. in this case the current rises to 550mA. [ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth [ 3] 0.0-60.0 sec 6.34 GBytes 907 Mbits/sec when using bidirectional simultaneous transfers with the following command: root@OrangePi:~# iperf -c 192.168.1.100 -t 60 -d ------------------------------------------------------------ Server listening on TCP port 5001 TCP window size: 85.3 KByte (default) ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ Client connecting to 192.168.1.100, TCP port 5001 TCP window size: 113 KByte (default) ------------------------------------------------------------ [ 5] local 192.168.1.143 port 37423 connected with 192.168.1.100 port 5001 [ 4] local 192.168.1.143 port 5001 connected with 192.168.1.100 port 51684 [ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth [ 5] 0.0-60.0 sec 4.56 GBytes 653 Mbits/sec [ 4] 0.0-60.0 sec 4.92 GBytes 705 Mbits/sec Then I run the gcc_perf @Larry Bank from here: https://github.com/bitbank2/gcc_perf Average current was around 560mA, with peak 640mA. My conclusion is: This board makes sense as a remote video player, connected to some TV with Kodi, probably, so that you can stream from your main server. That because it has great ethernet, with great 4K video decoding capabilities.... One USB3 would make it a good choice for servers... But no...

Would it make a goods beginners board (as soon as kernel is 'in a good shape') cause it would avoid 'powering gone wrong'... - anyway, every barrel plug powered board is a bit more beginners friendly.. I don't follow sunxi mailing list fully (mostly cause I wouldn't understand most of the things discussed there.. ), but as I saw for the A64s PMIC was a bit problematic (handled by AR100, whereas complier for it is not GPL). As I understand, this issue was solved with those commits. Is the H6 also affected by such problems? (Allwinner had PMIC since a long time on the AR100 but it was possible to avoid using it). 6 hours ago, Icenowy said: A 4.9 kernel is released by Allwinner yesterday (as UTC+8). Andris Tóth
Hello! I am starting on this space and I would ask help for this! I installed an android on the orange pi one plus based on the description, but so much happened that appeared on the display the H6 allwiner logo and that's all. I use a 5v/3A adapter, I install the android with the PhoenixCard to a 16GB micro SD I am an absolute beginner, and I cannot realise the problem! Any idea? This board at this stage is probably not the best for absolute beginners. You will only find yourself frustrated. Start your explorations with previous versions (preferable H3 Orangepi PC+), which are decently supported with Linux, Openelec, Android, Retrogaming, ... And here we are mainly - if not strictly - focused on (Debian like) Linux experience. Android or proprietary Phoenix tools are mainly out of this interest zone. But anyway, welcome for trying things and not being an absolute beginner anymore
chwe
Did someone try to build u-boot or kernel with their sources? https://github.com/Allwinner-Homlet?tab=repositories Seems that the whole thing is somehow messed up. From their buildscript I expect that it should build 'u-boot-2014.07' but it seems that it messes up somewhere in 'u-boot-2011.09'. Not that I would expect that I wouldn't fail (completely new on this field of stuff and starting with a 'not so well' documented script might be an overkill ), but I'm interested if someone had a look into it. btw. up since 7days without load (hadn't time/interest to play with it).. orangepi@OrangePi:~$ uptime 15:23:47 up 7 days, 16:22, 1 user, load average: 3.00, 3.01, 3.05 checked dmesg the first time: Spoiler [ 0.000000] Initializing cgroup subsys cpu [ 0.000000] Initializing cgroup subsys cpuacct [ 0.000000] Linux version 3.10.65 (xunlong@xunlong) (gcc version 4.9.3 201501 13 (prerelease) (Linaro GCC 4.9-2015.01-3) ) #35 SMP PREEMPT Tue Jan 23 18:13:02 CST 2018 [ 0.000000] CPU: AArch64 Processor [410fd034] revision 4 [ 0.000000] Machine: sun50iw6 [ 0.000000] bootconsole [earlycon0] enabled [ 0.000000] cma: CMA: reserved 16 MiB at 7f000000 [ 0.000000] On node 0 totalpages: 262144 [ 0.000000] DMA zone: 3584 pages used for memmap [ 0.000000] DMA zone: 0 pages reserved [ 0.000000] DMA zone: 262144 pages, LIFO batch:31 [ 0.000000] psci: probing for conduit method from DT. I just had a go.. fairly new to this myself, so I'm not even sure what I'm actually doing, but there's something wrong with the SDK itself, apparently. Anyway, to select uboot 2014.07 you need to specify the board with -p: ./build.sh -p sun50iw6p1 First complains about a Makefile error (an endline that shouldn't be thre at line 1214. After fixing that, the compilation *almost* goes on nicely, but it returns an error for a couple targets: make[1]: *** No rule to make target 'arch/arm/cpu/armv7/lowlevel_init.o', needed by 'arch/arm/cpu/armv7/built-in.o'. Xalius
I tried to build that u-boot 2014 release from the BSP too... after fixing the error in the Makefile like you mentioned, I also got stuck on the u-boot build unless I use the specific linaro toolchain contained within that BSP drop, but the scripts are totally broken because they split up the BSP into several repos... I didn't spend that much time with it cause the board is of minor interest to me (a wired out USB3 would make it much more interesting.. ). As soon as mainline is somehow usable this might change cause I can use it at least as a lightweight webserver (don't ask when armbian 'is ready' cause I simply don't know it). Cause @Xalius and others reported that the BSP kernels are the same mess than older Allwinner kernels this might be a mainline only SoC too. Yup, same for me... that's why I got the other H6 board (Orange Pi Lite2, no GbE but USB3). I know this topic is about the pi one plus , but they share quite a lot in term of kernel compatibility and boot process (the same orange pi image boots on my board).
