I have "Hide all signatures". Perhaps this is just admin feature by default. Check. Otherwise we have to check if this can be enabled for all.

@Vanitarium Adjusting, not removing. There are users out there with longer, some might have flashy ones and this can't be changed over the night. But we shell try.

Even forum have an option to disable signatures for logged users, I welcome this idea. We already removed lots of forum default distractions to be focused on the content. And I am sure it helps.

I took an image from NanoPC T4 (can take any for rk3399), recorded it on USB, configured DTB for RockPi-4b and voila, the system normally starts and works. That is, can have one universal image and run it on any model (do not have to build and place many different images on the site, which differ only in u-boot). If desired, can easily add the desired u-boot for a specific model and use the launch from SD\eMMC.

I suggest adding a small patch for all u-boot for rk33xx. It allows to enable direct booting from USB media and significantly facilitates the use of RK33xx models for users. Allows you to easily launch any system from USB without the need for complex settings and manipulations with existing (main) systems on devices on SD or eMMC.

The entire path fits in two lines.

Good news for RockPI 4B owners. This is an image with Armbian Bionic that includes support for running from USB. I checked this image with eMMC and SD card, running direct system startup from USB.
RockPI 4B does not have a very convenient placement of eMMC and SD connectors (if the NVMe module is connected on top, the loop from it overlaps the SD connector) so it is very difficult to test different systems. This image solves this problem. You can write any system to SD or eMMC and add a u-boot version that supports USB startup to the media (second link). Install the eMMC module or SD card and start the main system from them. When you need to quickly check or just start another system with USB, you simply connect the USB drive with the new system and it starts automatically when you turn on the power, turn off the USB and return to the normal system. If Radxa added one small patch to the source code for SPI, you can get a unique u-boot that supports direct launch from USB.

I recorded an Armbian image on eMMC and installed it on the Board, and now it is very convenient for me to quickly launch Libreelec from USB, I can use a universal image that does not depend on the availability of the necessary u-boot for the SD card, just configure the DTB correctly and voila, the system works completely with USB, without any additional steps. I connected the USB-I have LE, disabled USB and can immediately start Armbian.

    Hi Igor,

it would be an honour to help you on your project. I highly respect this forum and I'm really interested in ARM Technologies and Debian based distributions. My hat's off to the guys at Armbian to manage a huge project like this
Besides that I'm using SBCs for server solutions another attempt to get a deeper look into ARM technology was to deal with Banana Pi products on Amazon. This attempt cost me a lot of time and in the end I almost lost my company too. The product line of SinoVoip or Bipai Keji (HK) Limited got messier each month. After they fired my main supporter anything got worse. Since then I'm seeking for a new opportunity for my company to get a footstep into the ARM world. Especially the Armbian Forum.

I ceased the Amazon sales last week. Therefore I have a few hours left each week for a new project. So the time would be perfect to support an opensource project. If you're interested, I'd looking forward to get to know each other on the Armbian Forum.
What might interests you as well is that I worked as a first level supporter, almost for elder people, for 3 years. So I know my place if something gets out of control and people gets angry or confused.

The only problem I may see is if you need moderators with short reaction times or too much hours each day. I think I can handle work like once, maybe twice, a day for something around an hour or so - 12/5.

I'm looking forward to read you
    Best Regards, _r9

Thank you! For this and for your help in the past.

I don't know if we are generally there yet, but forum ( and me) is getting out of control from time to time. That's my observation, which could be wrong.

We need reinforcements, otherwise it will remain as is not so good. Hopefully more people will step up since it will be easier for everyone and the only way to keep forum readable, conduct some minimal policy and trying to improve forums on a long run. We want as flat structure as possible - being a moderator should be technical not a political function to limit our power games. Armbian is a technical forum - we don't delete content, but merge, move, reorganise. We ban bots that breaks automated spam machine, we don't ban people unless idiot level is obvious, but warn users when derived from https://forum.armbian.com/terms and https://forum.armbian.com/guidelines

Mistakes will be done on both sides. Which is normal and expected.

People that have moderators rights and are relatively active are: @NicoD @JMCC @chwe @TonyMac32 @balbes150 @lanefu

this is just a quick note that in my experience the amount of tv boxes with fake specs has grown quite a bit in the last months and that this is something to always have in mind when getting a box for a surprisingly cheap (i.e. quite a bit cheaper than usual or most of the other offerings) price - you might be lucky and it will be a bargain or you might hit one with fake specs. some examples i saw recently: a qplus 4g ram / 32g emmc ended up to be 2g ram and 16g nand, a h6 box sold as 4g ram / 32g emmc ended up as 2g ram / 16g emmc, a x96mini 2g ram / 16g emmc ended up at only 1g ram / 16g emmc, a r39 2g ram / 16g emmc with rockchip rk3229 ends up as 1g ram / 16g emmc and an allwinner h3 cpu and so on. the fake specs are not that easy to spot: in android they even fake the storage size shown in the storage settings and with a terminal installed even the "free" command tells you most of the time that the memory amount is proper. what usualy works for storage is "cat /proc/partitions" and watching for the device itself (for instance mmcblk0) - this also quickly shows you if its emmc (=mmcblk) or nand (=nand) and for memory "dmesg | grep -i mem" (do this immediately after booting android, otherwise the memory lines from the bootup might run out of the log buffer) - both of course called in a terminal app. booting one of balbes150's armbian images usually quickly shows you the real specs of the box too.

good luck at not ending up with fake boxes and best wishes - hexdump

p.s.: one thing to keep in mind is that allwinner h6 boxes always only can use 3g ram, even if they have 4g installed - this is a limitataion of the soc ...

i think i got it stable finally - i built u-boot for it myself (v2020.01) and did the following:
loaderimage --pack --uboot ./u-boot-dtb.bin uboot.img 0x200000 # loaderimage on x86 dd if=uboot.img of=/dev/sdx seek=16384 the dd of trust.img as described above is required still. booted this way the box seems to run quite stable. i guess the u-boot i used before was setting a too advanced memory timing and my self build evb-rk3328 u-boot seems to have a more conservative memory timing which is ok for the box. i'll tomorrow upload a readymade dd'able u-boot here in case someone else wants to give it a try.

i also tried to dd the spl/tpl idbloader.img and u-boot.itb too following https://github.com/u-boot/u-boot/blob/master/doc/README.rockchip but it looks the box initally boots off the emmc and only uses the u-boot on the sd-card, so the spl/tpl on the sd card were ignored.

    best wishes - hexdump

In the new year, I plan to focus on improving and developing Armbian-TV  (Armbian-TV is a version that is based on the official Armbian, aimed at improved support for media capabilities and ease of use by ordinary users) support for the platforms Rockchip and Allwinner  (perhaps a few more platforms will be added that are not yet in use). To do this, I have already ordered several popular models based on rk3399 (NanoPC T4, RockPi 4, Renegade-Elite), in a complete set with obligatory Support of nvme carriers (I consider this support essentially important, for transition of TV boxes and SBS to the category of mini-PC, as highly effective and improved replacement of the usual PC). I'm plan to buy several more models on Allwinner (I'm still evaluating the capabilities of the selected models).
I had plans to buy some more models based on rk3399 from other manufacturers, but there were problems with delivery and / or payment for my country.

If anyone has any suggestions for models that I should consider, I'm willing to listen to reasonable descriptions of the models.
