Armbian 23.05 (Suni) Testings

Recommended Posts

I made a first round of testing, some manually:

and some via auto-testing machinery. Most of images works:

Spoiler

We need to fix Rpi4, Jetson nano, perhaps other media?

OK, but distorted audio output over USB, I believe this came up since kernel 5.16+ and is still present in 6.x

Orangepi R1 Plus LTS (RK3328) - networking issue AR-1747.

Caused by one of the network interface logical names changing from eth0 to end0.
I can can submit a PR to fix this with a rename in /etc/udev/rules.d/70-rename-lan.rules which is already created from a hook in the board config file (to rename the other network interface).  Already tested and works as expected on current and edge, Ubuntu and Debian.

Before I take this route, I'm just wondering if anyone knows a reason for this happening that could possibly lead to a better fix?  I didn't find anything obvious in the PR's.

Armbian_23.5.0-trunk.219_Station-p1_jammy_current_6.1.29_gnome_desktop

- boot: first install tells "no internet connection found" but wired was connected and location based detected also worked.

- HDMI video: Gnome desktop works decent on WQHD

- HDMI sound could not be tested, lacking equipment

- USB 2 and 3 work with mouse and keyboard

- Installation to eMMC + boot w/o microSD works

- Sound via 3.5 jack  PARTIALLY works. Only got right channel on my headphones. Headphones work properly on other computer.

that device is on the Media kernel, is it not?  Unless I'm mistaken it isn't going to see any updates or... ?

Yes. Maybe all media should be moved to csc for this reason.

RockPI-S patch to assign wlan0 a unique MAC address derived from the rk3308 serial number relied on ifconfig

I need to submit a patch to switch it to use ip link set wlan0 address aa:bb:...

RockPI-S

Armbian_23.5.0-trunk.219_Rockpi-s_bookworm_current_6.1.29_minimal.img

is unusable.  It drops keystrokes from the serial console if one types quickly and appears to put the terminal emulator into a strange state.

If one is patient enough with the keyboard, one can get through the setup, but the nmtui for connecting to WiFi cannot be used.

Pressing down arrow in nmtui exits it.

Is anyone else having trouble configuring the minimal bookworm images?

The corresponding full image is fine.

Tested:

  Bluetooth

  Ethernet

  WiFi

audio (at least the audio devices appear and the mixer works)

Boot up messages on the serial console appear to be truncated at 70 columns or so.

But, that's probably someone's idea of "progress"

(or, am I the only one noticing this?)

As noted earlier, the system failed to assign a repeatable wlan0 MAC address due to its missing ifconfig.

I'll submit a PR to fix this.

there are no such devices in any form on the official page (there is no point in testing them). the media kernel obtained from armbian-next is useless and dangerous for users, it should not be in network repositories (getting it on existing systems will lead to problems). the same goes for u-boot.

I have seen this before, but some time ago. Today I have tested numerous of minimal builds on different boards and can't recreate this behaviour. I will try on Rockpi S when I get to it - its not easily accessible.

Rock Pi 4A and 4C boot to working gigabit ethernet with bookworm-current minimal image, USB ports all work. HDMI output not tested yet.

Rock 3A also boots to working gigabit ethernet with jammy-edge minimal image. USB ports all work. HDMI output not tested yet here either.

Rock64 also boots to working gigabit ethernet with bookworm-current minimal image. USB ports all work. HDMI output not tested.

Rock Pi-4B - Armbian_23.05.1_Rockpi-4b_jammy_current_6.1.30_gnome_desktop.img

installed to emmc: logs

wlan, hdmi, nvme working

Rock-5B - Armbian_23.05.1_Rock-5b_jammy_legacy_5.10.160_gnome_desktop.img

Took me a while to boot from SD, was using an older 23.05-trunk version.

Even 'sudo dd if=zero.img of=/dev/mtdblock0' with radxa zero.img would continue to boot happily from nvme instead of sd, changed armbianEnv.txt to sd root, updated bootloaderon mtd -> worked.

besides mtd being a mystical thing for me, almost anything worked:
installed to mtd+nvme: logs
using btrfs on nvme + mtd did not work (don't know if supported, but installer lets you pick it).
performance with panfrost ppa's enabled is absolutely stunning.

Btw, this time for testing I used my 45W PD PSU (+ PD C<->C Cable 60W) instead of fixed 5V@4A w/o errors and activated the max 12V PD option in armbian-config just for fun.
Sensors report ed

in0: 12.00 V (min = +12.00 V, max = +12.00 V)
curr1: 1.50 A (max = +1.50 A)

and had no reboots or whatsoever.
