Igor Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 First Rockchip RK3399 based board from Orangepi maker - under development, not much news except what can be scrapped from pictures. Chip: http://rockchip.wikidot.com/rk3399 3 Quote
hojnikb Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 hmmm, PC2 with 2gb of ram and this SoC for less than 35$ ? That would be interesting Glad to see xunlong branching out of allwinner. 0 Quote

It follows RK3399 reference design pretty closely but adds an ASM1061 or maybe ASM1062 to attach a SATA disk. Regarding pricing and software support some information can already be found here: http://www.cnx-software.com/2016/11/25/firefly-rk3399-development-board-will-fly-with-rockchip-rk3399-hexa-core-processor/#comment-536776 (even same Ampak for non-crappy Wi-FI used here but what's the use case for an ARM board that costs as much as a real Mini PC?) 1 Quote

There are tons of setop-box builders and I am sure other industries that could make use of "cheaper" development boards. It ships with tons of connectors.. 0 Quote

AndroidPimp Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Hi. I am currently reviewing the Firefly RK3399 Plus Board, but its more expensiv. Based on the above photo, the Orange Pi board will also have 4GB RAM. 0 Quote
James Kingdon Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 Hi @Igor I'm curious where the info/photos came from - did you get a pre-release board? I'd love to get my hands on one (or more!) of these for testing. 0 Quote
Igor Posted May 29, 2017 Author Posted May 29, 2017 It's from Xunlong, but boards are not yet ready for testing AFAIK. 0 Quote
Larry Bank Posted August 25, 2017 Posted August 25, 2017 It's been 3 months - any update on the rk3399 board? 0 Quote

richardk Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 I'd love to build a database/search cluster from stacks of Cortex A72 boards. 8GB RAM? Just wishing... 0 Quote

If you want to experiment (or depending on your needs, move into production), packet rent Cavium ThunderX hosts for 50c/hr https://www.packet.net/bare-metal/servers/type-2a/ That gives you 96 cores at 2GHz with 128 GB of ram. It makes me feel both happy and slightly dizzy just thinking about it. I intend to buy some time at some point and see how the individual cores stack up against things we can get our hands on. Which brings us back to the rk3399. Sure hope Orange are making progress with their board. 0 Quote
umiddelb Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 You can get an 8 GB, 8 Cores ARMv8 server for 12 EUR/month (and many other configurations) at Scaleway as well. 0 Quote
tkaiser Posted August 31, 2017 Posted August 31, 2017 (edited) Can anyone running a recent kernel please provide /proc/cpuinfo contents or even better output from 'sudo armbianmonitor -u' when running an image based on Armbian? I'm interested in differentiation strategies for the two CPU clusters. Edited August 31, 2017 by tkaiser Asked in wrong thread 0 Quote

I didn't state that. I'd be glad if they fitted into ~100$ for it. Because what is already released, costs ~250$ (firefly, videostrong), hardly they would be selling it to their loss. 0 Quote

I keep looking at the firefly but it's going to cost me $$$ by the time I factor in the exchange rate, shipping and the hideous border duties. My guess is $100 would be at the low end of the possible price range for Orange, but the closer they can get to that the happier I will be. The tv boxes look like great value, but I've had bad experiences with every tv box I've tried so far, so I want to see someone else get Linux up and running on one first 0 Quote
James Kingdon Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 Sure is taking a long time for this board to appear. Hope they haven't dropped it. 0 Quote

Interesting board. I don't have a specific use for it, but it's great to see more powerful ARM chips being offered as SBCs. 0 Quote
Larry Bank Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 This is even more interesting. Pine64 is apparently going to release a low cost RK3399 board ($60!). Here are the details: https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=5614 0 Quote
TonyMac32 Posted January 30, 2018 Posted January 30, 2018 At $60 that's a definite want. At $110 you need to show me why I need all those connectors. 1 Quote

JMCC Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 There's something I don't get. It's been out for a few days already, and there is no OS image to download, even an Android one. What are you supposed to do with it after you buy it? 0 Quote
