@t23 - you may try this image here (it supports the allwinner h6 too) with the allwinner u-boot (see first post of this thread)

Which one do you suggest - 20191222 from the Allwinner folder or 20191228 from the RK_AML_AW folder? Also, should i grab a dtb or anything else from the box before starting, and if so, how do i do that?

@t23 - just try the 20191228 rk-aml-aw one with the included tanix-tx6 dtb and the allwinner u-boot written to it ... please keep in mind, that not all h6 tv boxes are supported by the u-boot yet (most probably still some strange memory timinig setup issues), so it might simply not work ... connecting a serial console to the box should help to find out if this is the problem maybe in case it does not work

Uh, let's hope it doesn't come to that.

While preparing, i took the box apart, and here is what i can find:

RAM is 8x512MB Micron D9PQL (same as half the Eachlink H6 Mini <1.2 boards use)

Ethernet is Pulse H1102NL

Wifi is SM6335

Something called THGBMHT looks like the 128GB flash memory, most likely made by Kioxia

(A while later)

USB media is prepared, but obviously the box won't just boot it by itself, and aml_autoscript won't install through the updater. Any ideas how i get past this step?

@hexdump - figured about the script, it was just the only thing i hadn't tried. I did indeed dd u-boot-allwinner-h6-tx6.img to the stick (there was no separate image for USB boot like there is for Amlogic) and tried both USB ports - no luck with either. The 128GB model has no SD slot, so i cannot try that.

Anything i can try from a prompt, or should i just write it off as worst buy of 2019?

@t23 - in my experience nearly everything h96 is not really good for running armbian: from h96 max rk3328 which does not boot from sd card properly over h96 max rk3318 with an unsupported soc maybe towards your h96 mini without even an sd card slot ...

Hi.

Sorry, I'm new to amlogic devices.

I want to try armbian on a khadas vim2.

I downloaded this image Armbian_19.11.5_Aml-g12_buster_dev_5.5.0-rc4_20191228.img.xz and burned it on a sdcard.

I can't boot my khadas.

Is there any configuration before booting ?

You have adjust the uEnv.ini file and the EXTLinux file(in the same named folder).
First go look into the dtb folder and find the correct dtb file for the vim2. Copy the name, and location of that file to those 2 files and you should be ready to boot.

I tried two images with the A5X Max (RK3328; 4GB Ram, 32GB Rom) to boot from sdcard:
- Armbian_19.11.4_Arm-64_buster_current_5.4.1_desktop_20191228.img
- Armbian_19.11.4_Arm-64_buster_dev_5.5.0-rc2_desktop_20191228.img

Both are not working for me (monitor stays black, nothing happens)
I used the dtb file which works for the old 4.4.154 kernel images and set it in extlinux.conf.
I wrote the u-boot for RK3328 according balbes (with "dd"... command)

Does anybody have an idea what could be the problem or succesfully used the new kernel 5 images on A5X Max?

The "Armbian_19.11.3_Rk3328-tv_buster_legacy_4.4.154_desktop_20191126.img" works good

Having issues with the NVMe drive with this unified boot process (the FriendlyDesktop image for the NanoPC T4 is able to see the drive, so it is not a hardware issue). I wrote the u-boot-rk3399-tv.img to the SD card, but I am getting:

jerryg@arm:~$ dmesg | grep pcie
[ 20.489985] rockchip-pcie f8000000.pcie: no vpcie12v regulator found
[ 26.398329] rockchip-pcie f8000000.pcie: no vpcie12v regulator found
[ 26.925369] rockchip-pcie f8000000.pcie: PCIe link training gen1 timeout!
[ 26.926462] rockchip-pcie: probe of f8000000.pcie failed with error -110

Googling for similar issues seem to indicate that the PCIe bus needs to be powered-on by u-boot in order for the device to be ready when the kernel inits the rockchip-pcie component. What can I do?

I tried successfully amrbian on my khadas vim2 booting from micro sdcard.

Image used: Armbian_19.11.5_Aml-g12_buster_dev_5.5.0-rc4_20191228.img.xz

Only used as headless server.

I have poor I/O access probably because of sdcard.

I tried burning OS on EMMC with the install-aml.sh script.

It does install os on EMMC, I only got an error at the end about deleting install-aml.sh

But SBC couldn't boot any more after this install.

I had to reinstall ubuntu official image from khadas on EMMC.

it's a good start to have such image I hope I'll be able to put it on emmc when it's ready.

You must use DTB strictly from the image composition.

Use u-boot from a system where PCIe is running.

You violated the instructions, installation in eMMC only when using a regular Android and exact execution of the remaining steps.

@balbes150 Thank you for your unique great work! I think also it's a great idea to unify the images and just to replace in uEnv.ini the dtb filename to the correct ones!

I used the file Armbian_19.11.5_Aml-g12_bionic_dev_5.5.0-rc4_20191228.img.xz for using it on my CSA93 S912 Amlogic device with 3GB DDR3 and 32GB ROM. The Chipset for Ethernet works! I used aml_autoscript in Android-Update-Firmware-Manually then it just started till the Tiger S912 Logo and hung. After replacing in uEnv.ini the FIRST line to: "dtb_name=/dtb/amlogic/meson-gxm-q200.dtb" then it booted! It seems like meson-gxm-q200.dtb works for S912 devices with 1000 Mbit/s interfaces.

Here is my dmesg:

So the driver for RTL8211F Gigabit Ethernet works on 100 Mbit/s and 1Gbe/s nearly perfect! I did an iperf3 messurement from PC and Banana PI.

From BananaPI the performance was ~800 Mbit/s RX/TX and with my PC the CSA93 performed to 950 Mbit/s RX/TX.

Problems:

- No sound

- No Wifi. I guess it's the problem of ath10k, but thought it's already officially implemented in the newer builds (I have a Qualcomm QCA9377 in my box)

- Boot partition is formated to FAT16 and just 256 MB. I can't resize with another system because it says it has to change into FAT32 then and maybe the bootloader doesn't like that. - Reason for this is, that I wanna use wireguard and when it comes to installation it says no space left on boot partition. Actually there is no space left of the 256 MB and it seems to be impossible to extend the size without damaging the fs.

Would love if you have some hints how to proceed!

While Armbian_19.11.4_Arm-64_bionic_current_5.4.1_desktop_20191228.img.xz works nice on my x96 mini 2/16 Test box with usb sound and ethernet(except I didn't find the point to install to internal in armbian config!?), Armbian_19.11.5_Aml-g12_bionic_dev_5.5.0-rc5-next-20200109_desktop.img.xz and Armbian_19.11.5_Aml-g12_buster_dev_5.5.0-rc5-next-20200109_desktop.img.xz boot, but I couldn't test further as on both usb keyboard doesn't work at all..so no login, new user etc....

For a universal image, the installation is performed only through the direct launch of the desired script , for each platform it is different.

Here is my dmesg:

All long logs need to be removed in the spoiler, they make it very difficult to read the topic.

Or put them in a text file and make an attachment to the message.

Boot partition is formated to FAT16 and just 256 MB.

Wiredguard is included in the working (non-DEV) versions.

DEV versions are intended for experienced users to test new core functionality.

Okay, where are these scripts (esp. for amlogic platform) located? Would be nice to replace older armbian(should be 5.98 or similar) on internal with the newer 19.11.04 version working well, to boot and test LE from card occasionally like usual..

The new version 20200117 19.11.5.

Please note that the DTB configuration order has changed.

Now a single configuration method is used for all Rockchip Allwinner Amlogic platforms. The file (uEnv.txt) is used for configuration DTB all platforms.  The system installation scripts in eMMC have changed accordingly. If you have a system with eMMC core 5 installed on RK33xx, it is advisable to perform a clean installation in eMMC to upgrade to the new version. Added installation in eMMC for the g12 platform with color correction. For this purpose, the universal multiload for AML has been updated. For the system to work correctly on AML, you need to update the multiload. Added a test version of the system installation in eMMC for Allwinner H6 (please note, this is the first version that may contain errors).

For anyone who uses an eMMC installation , it is mandatory to perform a full eMMC backup before installation.

I'm tired of telling you that USB support will never come out of thin air. Until someone makes the correct dtb, nothing will change.
